Chapter 2: Find the One (or Several)

Fangirling isn't just an emotion. It's a job. Not only are you feeling bubbly about that person, but you have to dedicate yourself. That one person you like is now a full time job with your pay being a picture or video of them doing something that makes you question their sanity.
That's why this step in the fangirling process is so vital. Without someone to obsess over, you're just standing there gawking at a blank tablet screen. Don't let people think you're crazy, get someone to obsess over!
This someone can be a celebrity in real life or a fictional character. Whoever makes you smile every time you look at them. Go for it!
The only hard thing about this is finding just ONE. Well, I'm here to tell you that you don't need only ONE. Get several people to fangirl over. I used to only be part of one fandom, but now my fandom amount is out of control. My fangirling has gone insane over the past few years, but I've learned you just have to roll with it.
If you're still having trouble picking a fandom, allow me to give you some assistance. Following is a list of the top ten fandoms in the world as of 2015:
1. Harry Potter
2. Hunger Games
3. Game of Thrones
4. Doctor Who
5. One Direction
6. Lord of the Rings
7. Hetalia
8. Star Trek
9. My Little Pony
10. Sherlock
My first fangirl experience started in the year of 2006. I became a
huge fan of the Pixar movie Cars and country/pop singer Taylor Swift. Now, back in 2006, fangirl wasn't even a thing yet, but these two things of my interest are what we would call today a fandom.
Being a 6 year old kid, you don't really know or research much on the things you like. It's just what you like, simple as that. By the year 2015, it seems every little detail in a fandom has a term.
Some fandoms come and go. I have friends who've told me several people and things they have obsessed over from when they were younger. You may love someone for a few years or a few weeks and then just leave. Sometimes, things happen in that particular fandom that upset or anger a person and they just forcefully and rage- fully scream they are done with it. Then there's me. I've stuck with my fandoms for years.
Like I said, I started my fandoms in 2006, and I'm still part of them fandoms. That means my devotion to Cars and Taylor Swift has been on going for almost 10 years. I also mentioned that things may change in the fandom. I know, for one, that Taylor Swift went from a country singer to a full pop singer. I don't know about you, but I think when Taylor went full pop, I started to fangirl harder than I've ever fangirled before, if that's even possible.
On the other hand, my Cars obsession has always been uncontrollable. That obsession really took off when Cars 2 came out in 2011. That's when I started buying all the merchandise I could find and when I started watching the Cars and Cars 2 movies on repeat. Then, my friend showed me a website called deviantART, which is a website where people can chat and post artwork. After signing up for the website, I started finding people with similar interests that I had. I even found several people who were obsessed with Cars and Taylor Swift, which made me really happy. I could finally relate with someone who shared my same obsessions in my fandoms.
Now, in 2015, my fandoms and obsessions are still going and stronger than ever. Although these are only two fandoms, there are SEVERAL more fandoms in the world.
Several of my friends are hardcore fangirls, but they don't share the same fandoms as myself. Some of my friends are obsessed with famous YouTuber's and some are obsessed with music groups.
Many of my closest friends move more towards the music group fandoms. The major music group my friends obsess over is K-Pop. K- Pop is Korean Pop music and many of my friends are insane over K-Pop. In K-Pop, the music is more pop and techno and there are usually a lot of people involved in each group. Some groups have up to ten or more members.
They don't just sing and compose music though, they are also amazing dancers. The coordination they have is enough to make a grown man cry. The dance moves, music, and their good-looks are the things my friends obsess over. I will admit, they have sucked me into K-Pop too.
Now that you've had some insight on finding the one (or several) people or things to obsess over, you are getting closer and closer to becoming a full blown fangirl. Which means, now, you are ready for the next step in the fangirling process. Which is....
