Shipping, how the world loves you. I know what you're thinking, what is shipping? Doesn't Amazon ship products? It does, but that's not what shipping means in this format. In the fangirl world.
Shipping is a way to say you want two people/characters to date. The word is most commonly used in these formats:
1. "Yeah man, I ship them."
2. "I ship them hardcore!"
3. "I ship them so hard!"
4. "They're my OTP!"
As you can see, the word "hard" is sometimes visible in these
phrases. It's just an emphasis on how much you ship someone.
It's easy to make a ship name. Just take two peoples names and put them together to make one word. It's as simple as that.
I ship people together as well, especially in my fandoms. I will say I don't do much shipping in the Cars fandom, but I've found that there is a ship name, which is SalQueen (Sally and McQueen).
With the Taylor Swift fandom, the ship name right now is Tayvin (Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris). I don't know about you, but I ship them pretty hard. They are my OTP (Official True Pairing).
With most ship names though, you may have alternative ones. With Taylor and Calvin, many people have been known to ship them with the name Talvin. Other examples mentioned on www.people.com include Hift, Swiftin, and Caylor. I'm so glad we, Taylor Swift fans, chose Tayvin. Can you imagine calling them Hift? Lordy.
I've also learned over the year of being into K-pop that there are many ship names in each Korean band. I'm not really into shipping people in K-Pop groups, but my friends are crazy about it. They're always crying about it and sending me pictures of the two people together. It gets pretty crazy and out of control sometimes. That's just the normal side affects of the fangirl life, right?
I also see shipping as a joking manner. Sometimes, my friends and I come up with ship names that we don't literally ship. It's just something to laugh about..
One example would be during English class one day. We were reading a short story about a bag-boy at a grocery store and a red- haired girl. Naturally, we started talking about this story and coming up with ship names. The suggestion that was the best ship name was Redbag. Of course, we don't officially ship them. It's just a humorous story that we'll bring up someday at lunch.
