Third Chapter: The Little Chica
Early 1700 hundreds
During this time Spain decided to start bringing in the Catholic churches in hopes of course basically blessing the land.
He also had decided to set up missionaries in both Texas and Mexico.
As to in hopes of keeping them safe and into the religious practice of Catholicism...
1744
In the year of 1744, the Alamo, located near the settlement of San Antonio, which was named after the priest who helped found the settlement, was finally being built with a church for all to come to and pray.
Spain was watching his workers work on this as he spoke with the priest about how things were going to go. Before then he stopped talking as his green eyes went downwards to a little human girl, who had tugged on his sleeve.
Her name was Sandera, which will later become known as the representation of the city of San Antonio, and known for the famous battle of the Alamo....
Spain picked up the little chica, smiling at her," Aloa little chica, what's your name?"
"My name is Sandera, senor," she tells with a smile, she had a bit of dirt on her cheek from rough housing with some of the other children, and the bottom of her white dress was stained with the red clayed soil that held the mixture of rich soil with it.
Which is something her papa, had noticed.
"Sandera, what did I say about the nonsense of rough housing," the priest told his daughter who only then realizes she is in trouble now as she sunk back into Antonio's arms.
"I'm sorry papa...," she says with a frown upon her face. Not wanting her papa to get mad at her.
"You best well be, chica."
But Spain couldn't help but let out a laugh and bright grin that match his joyous eyes. "Oh, now, this little chica sure is a feisty one, aren't you?," he asked Sandera who smiled and nodded, which made Spain chuckle.
"Your like a feisty puma," he says setting the girl down before then whispering in her ear," You know... I bet one day you are gonna grow up to be a great fighter, little chica." He then stands up straight and takes off the cross necklace from his neck and then settles it on hers."You little Sandera, shall be blessed with the mighty powers of God... to protect this mighty church...." He points to the Alamo that is being built currently. A proud characteristic that will last throughout the centuries of Texas History will be marked as one of the proud and prideful battle throughout the South.
Sandera holds the necklace in her hands, before glancing up at the country then to the Alamo," Gracias, senor... I won't let you down...."
The smile adoring her face as she said a small, quick, and silent prayer to bless the land that will soon she will fight to the death for....
