Prologue: The Discovery
1519
"Antonio, what exactly are you looking for?," Alonso Alvarez de Pineda asked his country as they had left Jamaica just few days ago and were exploring for more land to claim.
"I don't honestly know, but I have a feeling something is out there, Pineda," the Spaniard says as his green eyes fell to the waters below as their ship trudge onward through the waters.
Pineda gave sigh as he took out his telescope and looking around the sea. "Nothing but more water, and... more water."
"Sad sight to see isn't it?"
"Si," Pineda agreed with his country with a nod.
The sun was already starting to rise upon the salty waters. They had spent all night just talking and perhaps sailing back to Spain or maybe stopping at Cuba for a few days or so.
"Antonio... you should probably go to sleep now," the explorer said.
"But why? The sun had already risen I might as well stay up."
"No, you need your rest senor, now go, off to bed."
"But what about you Pineda?"
"I will be fine, and will retire to bed soon. Now go," he ushered the Spaniard to bed like a parent would to a child.
"Fine....," the country sighed as he went off to bed.
Letting out a breath of peace, Pineda took out his telescope and glanced around them. Seeing nothing but water as he continued looking before then... something caught his eye.
It was land!
Quickly rushing down to his bunk, he grabbed his ink pot and feathered quills, as well as his rolled up parchment maps and even blank pieces of parchment, quickly making his way back up towards the deck.
He then alternated between his telescope, and his mapping essentials.
It wasn't till around the time of noon did Pineda busted open Antonio's door, waking the country was at first startled by his door being opened.
Rubbing his tired green eyes, and stretching out while yawning. He looked at his explorer. " Good morning, Pineda... why exactly did you come in here?"
"Senor... I think I found something... I think... I think I found land...."
Antonio's eyes widen, though not really believing him at first. "No... your kidding me Pineda, you forgot to go to sleep didn't you?"
"Oh I couldn't senor, I swear I'm not. I saw a coastline in the distance."
"A coastline?"
"Yes senor, I have the proof," Pineda says, basically tossing the etched out coastline," I honestly think there is more to this coastline. I say we follow it so I may perhaps map more of it."
"Pineda... I think you have yourself an agreement on that, amigo."
