i really hate this man

whenever someone decides to make a fic on someone like Damon, Klaus, Kol, Kai, or Katherine Pierce, they always seem to want the OC to be this angel on their shoulder inspiring them to be better.

and i get it, morally if you were dating them you should want them to be, but this isn't real life, its a fic, and i also hate changing a character for who they are meant to be

Damon is a complex character. He's a bad guy in season one and ultimately progresses onto anti-hero in season 2 onto just an asshole that loves Elena so he'll do anything to protect her in season 3, and her loved ones because it's what she wants. But just because he got the girl in season 4 does not mean that he's a good guy, he's still selfish and arrogant and can be cruel,

don't forget that.

if you want to write a fic on any of these characters, my advice is rather than making a normal OC, make them weird, make them just as crazy, just as cruel, those are the interesting ones.

For example:

Kai is attracted to chaos and power we know that, so just make an OC that is the embodiment of that
(and by power, dont' overpower the OC, just a regular amount of power, make them powerful in their personalities, people who know who they are and what they want)

For whoever wrote the fics on Kai where he abuses his love interest, either mentally, emotionally or physically, just stop. Romanticizing abuse should not exist in the first place. Also, we have no clear evidence that Kai would do that to a significant other since we've never seen him with a significant other (Bonnie doesn't count guys).

And second, Kai is a sociopath, he has no emotions to love someone, he killed the taxi guy for fun, if he had enough money for a new wardrobe a dang galaxy phone, he had enough to pay taxi fare, he killed five of his siblings (Jo was pregnant and it was her wedding day) and wanted to kill Josie and Lizzie as children, probably still does

but we've never seen him with a love interest. On paper, he shouldn't be a good love interest, but I'll admit, he's an interesting fucker to write. So, the most likely fic that he could work with would be to pair him with another psychologically messed up fucker.

Give him a psychopath to fuck.

They'd mainly just do that, and maybe soon develop some fondness for one another, who knows.

and if, you wanna check out an awesome Kai fic where he actually does meet someone as crazy as he is and is hella interesting, go check out jane and her book 'villains of circumstance', we explore Kai in the early 90's with his girlfriend Daisy and it has such good Heathers vibes, and then we see them in Mystic Falls, it's so well written, it's so accurate, by far my favorite of all Kai stories and top five in my favorite TVD stories, it's truly top tier, i urge you to go read it

But Katherine and Damon, [Klaus could be seen as the major enemy throughout season three, an anit-hero throughout season four and ultimately in season two, just don't touch that, you shouldn't have to make your OC fall in love with the big villain when that villain is barely in that season.] Kol and Rebekah and quite literally most of the vampires are perceived as villains and also hard to love.

they are all messed up and cruel people and just because you introduce someone innocent to them would not make them immediately turn good and want to be good. Instead, make your OC accept them as who they are.

For example, in Sciamachy by Cat the main character, Adele actually accepts Kol for himself. His murderous and messed up attributes and all.

Another example is the Once Upon a Time Peter Pan fanfic Trickster by LIZ

The main character also begins to accept Peter for who he is, and it actually surprises the 'heroes' in the book, who thought she might have mellowed him out a bit. Not really, she's just as dangerous as he is.

also, why? why not make your OC as dangerous and vicious and wicked as their love interest?

but remember! if you're going to make them cruel and ruthless don't forget to give them a reason for doing so, Damon, Klaus and Katherine don't do anything without a reason so your OC shouldn't either

if they're just walking around being assholes for no reason then no ones gonna root for them, your audience isnt going to like them, so

always give them a reason for what they do
