Chapter Fourteen: Shopping

After a hearty meal of fish and chips, emphasis on the chips, Stelle brought me back to the boutique we visited the other day. The selection wasn't much different. Still very brown. She kept holding things out for me, asking my opinion.

The seventies weren't doing me any favors.

Way too many long skirts that'd I never wear, especially in summer. Strapless dresses that were gorgeous but would fall right off of me. Plenty of pieces that were just too big in general. I felt like I should be shopping in the children's aisle.

As I continued my way through the store I found a section of clothes that looked like they would fit. A bit more my size, more stick figure. I almost collapsed when I saw the jeans they had in stock.

Bell bottoms. As far as the eye could see....

I needed them. All of them. I hoped to God they would fit. As I started grabbing whatever I could find on the shelf I realized how much money this would cost. Not to mention the tax! Stelle caught up to me holding up a giant fur coat. "Find anything?"

"Uh..." I held up the stack of jeans in my hands. I expected her to put them all back and send me away. "Do these count?"

"Course they do, dressing room's that way," she said trying on her coat in front of a mirror. I grabbed several graphic t-shirts on my way there. The changing room was a bit small and just like bathroom stalls, the door didn't hang too high off the floor. Everything fit. As expected the shirts were a little big in the chest but miraculously the bell bottom jeans fit my waist and weren't too long. All of them, I needed all of them. I came out with my stack of clothes, grabbing socks and underwear on the way. "Got everything?"

"I think so," I said proudly examining my stash. Stelle had her fur coat and several polka dot dresses.

"Alright, let's ring them up."

I followed her to the check out and watched her pull out a very fancy looking card. "This is kind of a lot," I said as she handed her card to the cashier.

"My office will pay for it," Stelle said. "Don't worry, this barely meets my room service check."

I stared at her as the card was accepted and our clothes put neatly into boxes. Then I stared at the boxes. The clothes came in boxes! Not plastic bags but cardboard boxes! My mother would put our Christmas presents in these kinds of boxes that she saved over the decades but I'd never seen one out of retirement! Even my first outfit I got was just handed to me as was. Fascinating!

"What are you staring at?" Stelle asked. I regained my composure.

"Nothing," I said. We took our things and headed back to Stelle's room. I put all my new clothes down on the chaise lounge while Stelle took hers back to the bedroom. She came back out wearing the fur coat despite the warm temperatures.

"Are you going to the party tomorrow?" she asked. "After their concert?"

"Phil invited me," I said. "Where is it?"

"It's a ways downtown," Stelle said. "You know...if we make it to their hotel first, the tour bus will pick us up. We can get a lift from them and see the show, then hang out at the party and take the tour bus back to their hotel." She gleamed at me.

"They won't mind?"

"Nah," she said. "Not a lot of girls get a lift on their bus but since we're working with them..." I couldn't help but clap excitedly. A whole evening with my favorite band. I could faint.... "Besides, you still need to interview Angus, right?"

I almost did faint.

"Y-yeah," I said. "But I'm in no hurry."

"I'm never in a hurry to leave the bands," Stelle said. "I don't think anyone is."
