Chapter 37

A/N: Beginning of Edolas Arc finally begins!

Took me awhile to fix the terrible grammar issues that this chapter previously had. I have several tests/exams lined up for the next few weeks and that definitely does not add to my growing list of anxiety. Oh no it does not!

But... baby steps. Baby steps and I'll get there. We'll all get there.

But for now, enjoy this chapter!

Erza and Lucy, along with Wendy and Carla, sat in the guild at one of the tables. Fights proceeded as normal as they usually do as both Natsu and Gray bickered for the most ridiculous things. The fight quickly became more intense, and others joined in for reasons unknown. Juvia stayed away and watched her beloved Lucy-sama from afar. What else is new? It was a wonderful day thus far.

Erza had Lucy in her lap, with her arms around the celestial mage's waist, and enjoyed the warmth and the softness of the blonde. And Lucy enjoyed the company of Wendy and enjoyed talking to her and Carla, with the addition of her girlfriend holding her tightly.

"Big news!"

Two guys, Warren and Max, ran into the guild, either from fear or dread, and got the guild's attention. But before the two men could even say what the big news were, certain bells were heard.

Everyone except for the new members knew what they meant. And they were excited for it. There were murmurs of elated conservations, and tensed atmosphere filled the air: that it had been 3 years since he had left.

"Gildarts is back!" Natsu cheered with a wide grin.

"Aye!" Happy cheered.

"Gildarts?" Wendy turned to Lucy and Erza for answers.

Lucy smiled, thinking when she had last seen him. "He's an S-Class mage like Erza, only stronger."

Erza pinched Lucy on the side, earning a light yelp from the blonde. "At least I'm strong enough to protect you."

Lucy turned to Erza with a pout, rubbing her pinched area. "I never doubted your strength."

"Hmm." Erza grinned, pinching Lucy again, earning another yelp. She leaned in and gave Lucy a quick peck on the lips.

Pouting some more, Lucy removed herself from Erza's lap and sat on a hard woodened chair and watched as the guild begun to party. Erza sulked when Lucy left her lap, which felt cold and lonely.

Carla huffed and scanned the room as random people were being thrown into the air one by one. "Unruly guild...like a certain mage I know." Carla glared at the redhead who was still sulking.

"They're about to do the Gildarts Shift soon. It's been a long time since I had seen this." Lucy beamed

"Gildart's Shift?" Wendy asked.

"Basically, the town shifts to make sure Gildarts don't destroy anything." Lucy explained.

"Wait...what does that mean?" Carla asked.

"Gildarts uses 'Crush' Magic. Everything he touches gets obliterated, so if he's not paying attention he accidentally walks into houses and destroy them." Erza explained, crossing her arms, still sulking.

"Gildarts can be dumb sometimes. But he's a really good person and really cares for his friends." Lucy smiled.

"So, you modified the town just for that?" Carla was skeptical and doubtful about this whole thing.

"He sounds wonderful, Carla!" Wendy perked up, excited to meet another member of Fairy Tail.

"Yeah" She replied. "Wonderfully stupid." She added under her breath.

The town begun to shift, and the town had been split apart by constant rumbling. After a few minutes, it stopped. The guild was now quiet, and they stayed quiet, anxiously waiting for the door to open. One minute later, the door finally opened, revealing a man with reddish orange hair.

He seemed bored as he walked into the building, and he appeared confused and lost as he walked up to Mira. "Miss. There used to be a guild called Fairy Tail around here, if I'm not mistaken..."

Mira only smiled. "It's right here. And I'm Mirajane."

"Mira?" Gildarts cocked his head to the side as he looked at Mira in the eyes for couple of seconds before realizing that it was indeed Mira. "Oh! You sure had changed!" Then he started to scan the building again with wide and excited eyes. "Wait, is the guild new too!"

Carla huffed from a distance. "He couldn't tell from the distance?"

"He is dense, denser than Natsu." Lucy chuckled.

Then the dragonslayer ran toward him, itching for a fight. Gildarts merely tossed him away with a flick of his wrist. He went to the master for a minute or two and after his talk with him, he started to walk out to rest at his place.

But Gildarts left, he paused and turned to Lucy and Erza. "Oh! You two look all grown up. Are you holding up well, Lucy?"

Lucy nodded with a smile. "I am."

"You're looking great too, Erza."

Gildarts smiled. He turned and told Natsu to meet up with him later.

"Guess nothing changed, huh?" Erza commented just as Gildarts walked straight into a wall, destroying it in the process, and continued to walk as if nothing had happened.

Carla facepalmed when Natsu destroyed a wall right next to the freshly made hole that Gildrart made, so he could follow him. "Why didn't he just go through the hole Gildarts made?" She muttered in disdain as she watched the dragonslayer run off after the older man.

Lucy laughed. "Like I said, they are both dense."

"And stupid." Erza added with a small smile.

"But we love them."

"This place is crazy."

...

The girls all sat at the table and talked amongst themselves, as per usual, and enjoyed each other company. But it didn't last as Gajeel decided to walk up to the girls with a scornful scowl.

"Hey rookie." The metalman spoke as he glared at the little girl.

"Huh?" Wendy stopped and turned to see he looked down on her.

The other girls paused in what they were doing and watched the events unfold, and for what Gajeel had to say.

"When I get my own cat, it will be better than yours or Salamander's." He declared. There was a moment of silence between him and the girls before he spoke again. "And when I do, I will have it destroy your cat, so you won't make fun of me again!"

Confused and hurt, Wendy ran into Lucy and sniffled a couple of times. Carla was about to say something, and Erza was about to do something as well, but Lucy was the first to react and approached Gajeel and slapped him hard across his cheeks.

A sickening sound of silence followed the sound of a slap. Gajeel turned back to Lucy with a glare, he brought his fist up and was about to slap her back.

But, not another second, an ironed fist connected to Gajeel's face and was sent backward with a violent crash. Erza summoned two swords and approached Gajeel who was already getting back up with a smirk.

"Don't you dare do that again. Don't ever make Wendy cry. And do not, ever, ever touch my girlfriend." Erza growled as she took another step toward the iron dragon slayer.

"Gihihi. Let's see if you can protect them both. Unlike last time." Gajeel smirked, always ready for a good fight and cracked his knuckles.

With countless ticks on Erza's forehead, she lurched forward and brought her sword down on the slayer with much force as she could summon.

"Lucy-mama. What did he mean by 'unlike last time'?" Wendy asked as she hid behind Lucy.

"Well...Gajeel used to be an enemy...and stuff happened..." Lucy nervously replied.

"Enemy? Then why is he in guild?" Carla asked with distaste in the metal man.

"Makarov invited him to join the guild. Something about guiding him in the right direction." Lucy explained as she watched as both Gajeel and Erza battled each other with maddening intensity in which the others were afraid to even join in the fight.

"I suppose that would make sense." Carla muttered as she watched the fight halfheartedly.

"ENOUGH!" A loud voice echoed strongly into the building which had silenced the members with fright. The mages turned to see Makarov standing on the rail of the second floor. "Cease this fighting!" He added.

Erza kicked Gajeel across the room one final time before going back to Lucy's side.

The celestial mage sighed and sat back down with Wendy by her side. Erza on the other side, who wrapped her arm around Lucy, to ensure that nobody else would try and hit her, also to just be near her. She could never get enough of her blonde girlfriend.

Then Happy came up to Carla with a fish wrapped by a bow and smiled. "Carla! I just caught this fish. I thought I'd give it to you."

"No thanks." Carla declined without a beat. "I hate fish."

"Oh. Then what do you like? I'll get you whatever-"

"You're annoying!" Carla snapped as she interrupted Happy. "Please stop following me around." She just wasn't in any mood to deal with this he-male cat.

She turned to Lucy and Wendy for a moment before she jumped of the table and walked out of the guild. She was frustrated and angry and needed a walk.

"Wait, Carla!" Wendy called out, but Carla did not stop, but knew she was listening. "Don't you think that was a bit mean?"

Carla ignored Wendy in favor of walking out of the guild. Even with the harsh denial, Happy decided to be optimistic and persistent and ran after Carla. Love surely knows no bounds.

Lucy sighed. "Why is she being so mean?" She asked herself before she turned to her redheaded girlfriend with suspicion. "You didn't do anything to her, did you?"

Erza, who watched the entire exchange quietly, turned to Lucy with a frown. "What? No. She may be annoying. But I would never hurt her." She paused for a second to think of a reason for the cat's hostility. "I do not know why Carla was giving Happy a cold shoulder."

"I'm going after her." Wendy said as she stood up.

"Want us to come with you?" Lucy offered.

Wendy shook her head. "I'll be fine." She replied before she ran out of the guild to find Carla.

Lucy sighed again and turned back to Erza. "Are you sure you didn't do anything?"

"I didn't eat her cake. So, I don't know why she's so mad."

"Cake?"

"Yep."

"I think that if someone eats your cake, you'll go berserk."

"No. I do not go berserk. I snap. There is a difference."

Lucy sighed, not in the mood to explain how those two is basically the same thing. "Whatever. Let's hope Wendy can figure something out with Carla."

"Wendy's smart. I'm sure she'll figure something out." Erza said as she tugged Lucy closer to her and made her sit on her lap.

Lucy hummed as she wrapped her arms around Erza and nuzzled into Erza's neck and enjoyed the comfortable warmth and silence.

Silence?

She moved her head to look scan the building; silence was instilled in every nook and cranny. Cana had her head on the counter, completely passed out from drinking several barrels. Levy quietly read a book by the window. Gray was just lounging about and stared out the window. Natsu was in a chair in a deep sleep, who had numerous markings all over his face, most likely from a certain bored mage. She looked outside and finally noticed that it was raining. Must be why everyone's a deadbeat. She's not complaining though, it's a nice change of pace.

But the rain made for a very depressing atmosphere. With a silent deep sigh, Lucy nuzzled back into Erza's warmth and smiled when she kissed her on the head.

In the corner of her eyes, Lucy saw Mira and Elfman leave the building with a bag and several other things. Then she remembered, today must be the anniversary of her death.

How long had it been since she passed? She wondered as the siblings could no longer be seen as the door closed behind them. She misses her, she misses her friend. She misses Lisanna, one of her best friends, next to Levy and Erza.

Erza was silent as the siblings left, and she was silent when she felt the blonde tightened her grip on her. With a mental vow, she'll make sure that her girlfriend will live and stay alive no matter what. She doesn't want to feel it all over again, the feeling of losing someone you cared so much for.

Not this time, not when it's Lucy.

...

Wendy ran away with tears in her eyes, as she left both Mystogan and Carla behind after hearing what the masked man had to say. The sky's going to open and swallow Magnolia whole? Everyone will disappear and die? If anything, this was the words of a madman, as it is almost impossible to make an entire city of this size to disappear.

Wendy didn't want to believe the man, but the sincerity in the man's voice told her otherwise. The man was serious, and just has the man had finished explaining, a hole appeared in the sky. That was more than enough for her to believe Mystogan, and she needed to warn everyone.

"Lucy-Mama! Erza-Papa! Everyone! Something is happening!" She shouted as she ran towards the guild. But she was a little far away form the building. But Natsu was there, he must be able to hear her. She could only hope that her voice could reach them before it was too late.

When she got closer to the building, the hole in the sky lit up and shot down a ray of light, and the guild began to glimmer before it disappeared.

"Everyone!" Wendy screamed in horror before everything went black.

...

Lucy always enjoys the feeling of sitting on Erza's lab, with her arms around her. But she soon discovered that she does not like tight spaces. Especially when your armored girlfriend is being pressed into you very painfully in a very... very tight space.

Almost as quickly as being jammed into that tight space, she found herself falling to the ground once a door opened and Erza followed. Both girls tumbled to the ground, with the older girl on top of the blonde.

After a moment, both girls sat up. The younger girl rubbed her butt as she turned to see that it was one of her spirits, Horologium, that had jammed both her and Erza inside of him. "Horologium?"

Erza grunted in discomfort from the tight space as she stood up and help her girlfriend to her feet. She looked around to see that she was in an unfamiliar place. There was absolutely nothing around them. Just white, tons of white all around.

"Yes. I'm sorry. I only managed to save two of you." The spirit said.

"What happened?" Erza asked as she turned to the spirit, wanting an explanation for what happened here. Good chance this spirit would know.

"I'm sorry. But I don't know." The spirit began,

Erza sighed. She had to jinx it. Of course, the spirit wouldn't know.

"I sensed a space-time distortion. So, I quickly came and saved the both of you" Horologium finished explaining.

The girls looked at each other for a moment before they turned back to the spirit. But before either one of them could reply, they were interrupted by another force, thus sending the clock spirit back to the celestial realm.

"Lucy, Erza. I see you two are all right."

Erza summoned a sword and Lucy brought out a key and faced whoever had spoken, only to see a familiar face, who decided to not wear a mask this time.

"Jellal? Or Jericho?" Erza's hands wavered for a moment, before she became stoic.

"No. I am not them. I'm Mystogan."

Lucy stared at the man and noticed at her armored girlfriend refused to say anything else to the man. With a sigh, she faced him with a question, "Then, Mystogan, can you tell us what happened?"

He was silent for a moment, as if he was trying to find the right words for the situation they were in before he spoke. "Magnolia had been absorbed into another world."

"What. Did I hear you correctly? Magnolia was absorbed? What about Fairy Tail?" Logically, that shouldn't be possible.

Mystogan explained everything in a matter of 5 minutes, maybe less since he was in a hurry. He then took out a bottle with red pills. "And, also, I need you two to take these."

"Are they safe?" Erza glared at the man that looked so much like Jellal.

He nodded and handed a pill to each of them. "There is not enough time for me to explain everything to you."

"What? Why?" Lucy asked before she swallowed the pill, and Erza sighed before she swallowed the pill.

Mystogan lifted one of his staff and pointed it toward the girls. "The gateway to the other world is closing. I need you to save our friends."

With no other words or explanations, the girls were swiftly blasted into the sky, straight into the world of Edolas. The world of failing magic.

"Please. Save Fairy Tail." Mystogan muttered before he looked around to see if anyone else had made it out without being absorbed by the Amina. He wouldn't be surprised if were someone else, if Lucy and Erza were able to escape the Amina.

...

Erza was conflicted if she should be angry at Mystogan for that short explanation of what's going on, or for blasting her and Lucy into the air with no warning. But she wondered if she should thank him, because as of this moment, her blonde goddess clung onto her like her life depended on it.

Luckily, when they arrived at the mysterious world, they landed without any complications. Erza scanned her surroundings with a calculating gaze. Right now, they were in a forest.

She looked down to see that Lucy was still buried in her chest from fear of the sudden transportation and being blasted into the air. She smiled at how cute she was and didn't want to move. But reality stings. It really does.

The redhead sighed in discontent and poked her in the cheeks, "Lucy."

The blonde opened her eyes reflectively and looked up and quickly realized her position. With a blush, she stood up.

"You're too cute." Erza commented before she stood. "Come on, we should start moving and try to find some information on how to find our friends." She reached out and held Lucy's hand in hers.

With a smile, Lucy squeezed her hand, "Let's go then."

It had almost been an hour since they had embarked on their search in this strange world. They walked through the many above-ground roots, overgrown plants, and weird yet dangerous animals, and then they had stumbled across a strange building that had a mark of Fairy Tail at the entrance.

Lucy and Erza smiled at each other before they ran to the weird looking building, glad to see that Fairy Tail was okay, even if it looked different.

But when they had opened the door, conflictingunfamiliarity was not what they were expecting.
