Chapter 4

Xilan's POV

I feel like a walking zombie. I barely had enough sleep because of the mission. I have 5 hours of sleep today, which is still not enough. But I think I can manage the lack of sleep. Knowing that back in my dimension, I always sleep at 12:30 am and wake up at 5:15 am.

I am now inside of school, I gave a small yawn and looked at my schedule in my hand. My first class is Chemistry by Ms. Je Ann. I sighed and gave out another small yawn and walked towards my next class.
---------------------------

I am now inside of my class and saw everyone is doing there own business, talking to each other on different tables, I saw Penn and the gang seating at left side of the classroom, just next to the window. I silently walked through without them noticing me, since it will be an awkward situation seeing me looking all tired and a slouchy figure. I sat on my table, and silently looking around the class doing nothing. While I am waiting for the teacher to come, I pulled out my phone, which is surprisingly in my t-shirt pocket the whole time, since I thought that I left my phone back in my dimension while I was being sucked here, I just noticed it last night, good thing I charged it last night, if not I will be completely bored.

I tapped the 'Wattpad' app and looked at my notification to see on the new updates on my books in the library, seeing that there is no new notification, I tap the pen button and saw the book that I was writing, it is entitled 'Tanggapin mo na lang', a story about a boy and a girl, the boy thought the girl is just a regular fangirl but the girl is much more deeper person than just a fangirl, she loves him yet the boy didn't return the feelings, it is just a one-shot story but hey, I got 1.9k reads on it. I tap the 'edit another story' and looked at all my works, I have already published 3 stories, the story I am most proud is the story entitled 'It is just you and me', a love story I created about Penn and Sashi. It almost complete, I just need an author's note at the end and I am now finished. I tapped that story, I scrolled it down until I saw the 'Author's Note' part after the epilouge. I tapped that part and continued writing my story. I was busy finishing the story that I didn't notice that someone is already standing next to my left side.

"Hello!" A voice said.

I slightly jumped out of my chair and gave a small shout.

"AHHH!" I shouted.

I looked at my left, only to see Sashi, smiling at me. I blushed at her smile. Why does she have to be so damn cute? No, to hell with that. Why does she have to be so Kawaii? I just can't take my eyes of off her, that smile that I want to see, those dark brown eyes that reflects my heterochromic eyes, everything about her shouts out 'LOVE' in it.

"Are you OK?" She asked with a worried voice.

"I-I-I-I'm fine S-s-ashi. You just startled me." I said with a stuttering voice.

"Sorry about that." She apologized.

"No harmed done." I said.

"By the way. When did you come here? We didn't notice you came by the door." She asked.

"Oh. Uhm. You see, I don't want all of you to worry about me too much seeing me all slouchy and droopy. So I sneaked through without all of you noticing me." I explained to her.

"We are friends Xilan." She said.

"I know but I just came here yesterday." I said to her.

"Even if it was yesterday, me, Penn, and Boone are already your friends. We are here for you. OK?" she said as she bends down and put both of her hands on her lap.

"I guess." I said.

"By the way, what are typing?" She asked me.

I blushed out of embarrassment, knowing that if Sashi and the gang knows that I am writing a story, they might make fun of me. I quickly hid my phone back in my pocket.

"NOTHING!!" I said

"Oh come on. I saw what you are doing." She teasingly said it to me.

"No, you don't" I said.

"Come on. I wanna see." She said as she reach both of her hands towards my pocket where my phone is hidden.

"There is nothing to see." I said as lean backwards trying to move away from Sashi.

"It can't be that bad." She said as she keeps reaching her hands out.

"I told it is nothing." I said as I grabbed both of her wrist, stopping her from reaching to my phone.

"But I wanna......" She didn't finish her sentence as one of my classmates, which is Matilda, shouted at the entire class.

"She's Here!!!!" She shouted.

Everyone knows what that means. Everyone quickly went back to there places. The door opens, showing Ms. Je Ann, our Chemistry teacher.

"Morning class." She greeted.

"Morning Ms.Je Ann" Everyone greeted back.

She put her equipments down her desk, infront of everyone and behind the chalk board.

"Todays lesson is about Balancing Chemical Equations and the Types of Reaction, after the lesson you are given an exercise quiz about the lesson, but I am not the one teaching you about the lesson." She explained only to receive a confused look from the entire class.

"The person that is going to teach you all about the lesson today, are yourselves." She explained gaining quiet comments from the class.

"Which is why I am going to pair all of you by random picking from the class list." She explained.

She sat down at her chair, pulled out a log book, opened it, grabbed a pen, and starts scribbling something on it. After a minute, she said the following people who are going to be pairs.

"Penn and Boone" She announced.

"Yes" They both gave a fist bump to one another.

"Matilda and Alex"

"Teddy and Terry"

"Monela and Sofia"

"Penny and Ruby"

"Xander and Ford"

The lists goes on and on and on until I heard my name.

"And finally, Xilan and Sashi"

Great. Just. Great. Now I am stuck with Sashi. Out of everyone in the class, it had to be her. Did she do this on purpose? Because when I am around Sashi, I become a stuttering mess, I blush everytime I am near her, but maybe it is a good thing, knowing that, we might get to know each other a little. Knowing that back in my dimension, I already know what is balancing a chemical reaction, I might have an advantage. I looked up and saw Sashi seating next to me on my left side and gave a close eyed smile, I blushed at the sight and slightly turning my head to the opposite side, trying to hide my blush from her.

"OK class. Pull out your Chemistry 1 book and open them at page 210, then you can start there in 1 hour, then the next 1 hour will be your exercise. Your lesson. Starts. Now." She announced as everyone is now working on their lessons.

While everyone's busy, me and  Sashi move our tables closer so we can share the book, we opened the book in page 210 and started learning.

I seem to get the text easily since it was already told to me when I was back in my dimension, but when I was looking at Sashi, I saw a furrowed brow on her face, the scrunched up face she has, it seems that she is having a hard time to understand the text.

"You OK Sashi?" I asked her.

"No. It is just it seem so hard understanding it. She didn't even teach us about it yet." She answered with a frustrated voice.

"What part are you not getting?" I asked her.

"Well. Everything." She answered.

"Here let me help you." I said as I pulled her table closer to me and grabbed her book and put it down in between the gaps of our table.

"Are you sure?" She questioned.

"Don't worry. Besides, I already learned this lesson back then in my dime- I mean back in my school." I said. Almost exposing to her that I came from another dimension. I don't want her to know that I came from another dimension just yet, and also that I am secretly working as a part-time one-man-army at night.

"Really?" She asked surprisingly.

"Yup. Now come on." I said as she comes closer to me.

We studied our lesson carefully, explaining to her every single detail about balancing chemical equations. That part made Sashi a little bit annoyed since that balancing a chemical equation takes a trial and error technique.

"Sashi. Balancing Chemical Equation is simply balancing the chemical equation, balancing a chemical equation takes a trial and error technique. The goal of balancing a chemical equation is to balance the chemical equation, define what type of reaction it is, recognize the number of atoms of each element that is conserved in a chemical reaction, describe the difference between coefficients and subscripts in a chemical equation, translate from symbolic to molecular representations of matter." I explained it to her.

"OK" She said.

"I told you. I already studied this lesson back in my school." I explained it to her.

"OK" She said.

"A reactant is a substance that takes part in and undergoes changes during a reaction. A product is the result of the undergone chemical reactants in the chemical equation." I explained it to her.

"OK." She understood the explanation.

"A subscript is the number of atoms in an element or in a compound it is shown at the lower right corner of the element symbol being the number is a small font size. A coefficient is the number of moles that are shown in an element or in a compound, a coefficient is usually a large font size number that is in front of the element symbol. In balancing a chemical equation, the only thing that you are changing is adding the coeffiencient in front of the element symbol or the compound symbol not the subscript of an element, because if you do change the subscript, the entire chemical equation will change. You got that?" I explained it to her.

"Yup. I got that." She understood.

"Now look at this example: N2 + H3 yields to NH6. Does this look balanced." I said to her, pointing the example in the book.

"No. Because the product NH6 has 6 Hydrogens and 1 Nitrogen while the reactant, there are 2 Nitrogens and 3 Hydrogens." She pointed out the problem.

"Good. Now Sashi this is what you are going to do. You must look at the symbol carefully and one-by-one. In the reactant, the N2 means that there are 2 atoms of Nitrogen, H3 means that there are 3 atoms of Hydrogen. In the product N means that there is 1 atom of Nitrogen, H6 means that there are 6 atoms of Hydrogen." I explained it to her.

"Got that." She said.

"So how are you going to balance it? Remember, when you are going to add a coefficient in an element or a compound, it means that you are multiplying it, just like 2×3=6. And also, remember to balance out each of the elements and the compounds, just because you put the coefficient 2 in front of N2, doesn't mean that you have to put 2 on every element or compound. The number of coefficient depends in the number of atoms that an element or a compound already has. For example, N3 yields to N12, the reactant N3 has 3 atoms of Nitrogen, and the product N12 means that there are 12 atoms of Nitrogen, you need to put 4 in front of N3, so in other words 4×3 is equal to....." explained it to her.

"12" She answered.

"Exactly. So 4N3 is equals to N12. So 4N3 yields to N12 is just, N12 yields to N12. So the chemical equation is balanced." I explained it to her.

"OH. I get it now." She understood the problem.

"Now, that you know how to balance an equation. Balance that equation." I pointer her the problem.

"OK." She said, as she analyzed the problem. After a few minutes, she answered it.

"In the reactant, you put 2 in H3 making it H6, which is already equals to the product H6, but the Nitrogen in the product is not equal to the reactant Nitrogen 2, so I have to put 2 in N to make it N2, but that is a compound, so applying 2 in N means 2 is also applied in H6 making H12, So change the 2 in the reactant H3 and change it into 4, so 4H3 means H12. So now that N2 + 4H3 yields to 2NH6. So the equation is balance." She answered the problem.

"Now your understanding it." I cheered for her.

"Yeah I did." She said.

"Now let's go to the types of reactions." I said.

"OK" She said.

"Sashi, there are 5 common types of reactions in chemical equations." I said as I showed her my 5 fingers.

"OK" She nodded

"The first is the Synthesis or Combination Reaction, a chemical reaction in which two reactants combine, making a more complex product, for simple meaning A + B yields to AB. Like N2 + H3 yields to N2H3."

"OK" She said.

"The second is the Decomposition Reaction, a chemical reaction which is the opposite of Combination Reaction. This reaction is simply splitting the combined product back into a simpler reactant chemical, for simpler meaning AB yields to A + B. Like for example NH6 yields to N + H6."

"Single Displacement reaction, a more active element displaces (kicks out) another less active element from a compound, for simple meaning A + BC yields to AC + B. For example, N2 + H3Cl2 yields to N2Cl2 + H3."

"Double Displacement reaction, or metathesis reactions, two species (normally ions) are displaced. Like AB + CD yields AD + CB."

"Combustion Reaction, occurs when a compound, usually one containing carbon, combines with the oxygen gas in the air. This process is commonly called burning. Heat is the most-useful product of most combustion reactions. Like CH2 + O3 yields to CO2 + H2O."

"How are you so good at this?" She asked me.

"I already told you. I already studied these kinds of lessons back in my school." I explained to her.

"Maybe in free time. Would you mind teaching us about your advance lessons that you studied back in your school?" She asked me.

"Sure. I wouldn't mind." I said to her.

"Are you sure?" She asked me.

"I am sure." I assured her.

"Pinkie promise?" She asked me as she shows her left pinkie finger at me.

"Pinkie promise." I promised her as I gave her my right pinkie finger, intertwining my pinkie into her pinkie, showing that we made a promise.

"Thanks." She thanked me.

"You're welcome." I welcomed her in return.

"Now let's go back into the lesson." I said, as I open another page in the book.

"Sure." She said eagerly as we went back to the lesson before the exercise starts.

----------------------------

Penn's POV

Me and Boone are still trying to understand about the lesson when ma and Boone heard a small laugh. We both looked around for the source of that sound and saw where it came from. It came from Sashi and Xilan, I saw Xilan talking and pointing something in the book while Sashi is listening and trying to understand the explanation, after that I saw Xilan smiling at Sashi, while Sashi smiled in confidence.

"Hey Boone." I called him

"What dude?" He asked.

"Look at them." I said pointing at Xilan and Sashi.

Boone looked at the direction that I was pointing at and saw them, he smile and giggled teasingly.

"It looks like they can get together easily." He said.

"What does that mean?" I asked him.

"I mean look at them dude. They look like they are perfect for each other." He said.

Then I got an idea.

"How about we can get them together." I said to him.

"You mean like 'Match making' and stuff?" He asked.

"Exactly." I said.

"$120 if they ended up together." He said challenging me.

"$120 if they don't end up together." I said.

"Deal." He said. We both shook our hands.
