Chapter Twenty Four

-Chapter Twenty Four-

Three hours. Three whole hours is how long it took for the pouring rain to slow down. Yes, I mean slow down. It’s still raining, just not as hard. No one was picking up their phones; not Danielle, not London, not Vicky, not Lily. . . I think you get the point now, yeah?

Every window was blurred from the rain, the wind was blowing, and now, my phone is almost dead. I had been trying to call anyone.  Jake and I were basically left alone.

The owner of the shop was somewhere in the back, lying on the floor with a coffee cup in his hand, asleep.

 Pitiful, I know.

The guy is a terrible owner. Jake and I could rob the place and he probably wouldn’t even care!

Jake was sitting in one of the couches in the lounge area, tapping his fingers to the beat of the faint sound of a Paramore song.

“I’m so bored. . .” I dragged out the last word and leaned back farther into the couch. My feet were propped up on the coffee table.

The few people that were here had run out into the rain, wanting to get home to their precious families. Us? We can’t! How come no one is answering their phones? And how come I only have two freaking bars?

I was getting tired now. I wanted to go back to my house, well Vicky’s, and crawl into my bed. I wanted to go to sleep!

Pulling out my mobile, I dialed in Danielle’s number in again. After a few rings, it went to her voicemail.

“Hello, you have reached the fabulous and wonderful Danielle! I’m so sorry that you get to miss out on this awesomeness, but I am most likely busy. And by busy, I mean eating Nutella. Anywho! Mr. Nutty and I say bye!”

I didn’t bother leaving her a message. I already left her five. Or was it six? Bleh, I don’t care.

I tried calling Lily again, knowing that London or Vicky wouldn’t pick up. Matt’s more than likely at work right now, so there’s no point in calling him either.

I could always call my parents. . . Oh well. I already found Lily’s contact. He he.

Too many rings later, it went to her voicemail. I felt like banging my head on a plank of wood multiple times in frustration right now. Gr! Why isn’t anyone picking up!?

“Hello! You’ve reached Lily! Sorry I wasn’t able to answer your phone call! Please leave a message after the  beep, and I’ll try to get right back to you. Bye!”

I decided to leave her a message. Maybe she’ll be the one to call me back, who knows?

“Hey, Lily. Jake and I are kind of stuck at the coffee shop next to the McDonalds. It’s the one that’s not too far away from Vicky’s. I think you know what I’m talking about. Anyways! Please come and pick us up. Oh, and tell Danielle to come too. I need to smack her upside the head. Thanks!” I said, hanging up at the end.

I doubt she’ll come, or even call back for that matter. No one seems to be doing that today.

“I hope you know that we don’t have to laze around here for God knows how long,” Jake stated as he scratched his forehead. “We could do something fun. What do you want to do?”

“There’s not much to do,” I replied, gesturing to the quiet room.

“They have a working TV, don’t they? This place also has a foosball table and a pool table in the break room.”

“How do you know?”

“I used to work here.”

“See, that makes sense!”

He chuckled, walking towards the back. “So you in for a game of pool?”

“Eh, not really. I’m sure you would crush me at it anyways. I’m kind of thirsty.”

“There’s a slushie machine here. Want one?”

“Sure!”

“Do you want to know what I’ve always wanted to do?” he questioned. “It involves one of these big boys.” He patted his hand on the slushie maker.

“Hm. Let me guess. You have always wanted to go up to a slushie machine and drink directly out of the nozzle? Isn’t that like every boy’s dream?”

“Exactly. Wanna try?”

I shook my head. “I’d rather not. . .”

“Party pooper.”

“I am not a party pooper!”

“Yes you are.” He bent down so his face was at the same level of the machine. He did what he wanted to do, and I didn’t stop him. He swallowed and wiped at his mouth. After he stood back up to full height, he said, “if you weren’t than you would do that.”

“Fine, I’ll do it.” Actually, I could really go for a slushie right now. It might brighten my mood a bit. I saw Jake smirk from the corner of my eye as I bent down and pulled the small lever down. Cherry flavored slushie poured out of the nozzle and landed in my mouth.

I haven’t had a slushie in years now. I stood up and swallowed. “That was pretty good.”

“You have a little something...”

“What?”

Jake took a step towards me, invading my personal bubble... But who am I to complain, right? He reached out his hand and touched his finger to the corner of my lip.

“There,” he said. His reply came out as a low whisper, and his breath fanned my lips teasingly. I gulped, trying not to lean forward.

I couldn’t breathe. He was standing so close to me... Jake’s eyes moved down to my lips. Just like the last time. Only this time, there will be no interruptions.

"Alex?" Our gazes connected, and I just got lost in his green eyes.

"Y-yes?" I replied with a low, shaky voice.

"You can kill me after I do this, but I have to try something. I just have to know something for sure."

"What do you mean―"

Jake cut me off by closing the distance between us. His lips brushed my own, sending tingles down my body. My stomach went crazy, and it felt like a circus had just exploded in there. No joke.

He reeled back to see my reaction. I blushed at this; no one had ever done anything like that before to me , but instead of saying anything, I used my arms and wrapped them around his neck to pull him down to kiss him. At first he was surprised, but then kissed me back. His arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him. Our bodies molded together as we kissed; our lips moved together in sync.

My heartbeat picked up its pace as shots of electricity ran through my body. His lips were so soft. My body felt all hot and tingly as my knees went weak.

Just as things were about to get a little heavier, it ended — too soon if you ask me.

I heard a door being open, and the small ‘ding’ of the bell that told me someone else was here. We both jumped away from each other.

Oh my gosh, we just kissed!

“Heyo!! We’re here!” The familiar voice that I recognized as Lily’s sounded throughout the deserted area.

Jake grunted, and murmured, “talk about timing.”

“Are they still here?” The faint sound of Danielle’s voice asked.

“I don’t see them anywhere. Jake! Danielle!”

“We’re here,” Jake told them. “Sorry,” he mouthed to me with a smile. I smiled back, and he brushed past me, out the door.

I followed him out, and saw the two girls standing there. “Hey guys.”

“Hey, Alex!” Dani said, walking over to me. “I’m so sorry! I had no idea you called! My phone was dead, and I had no idea where the charger was, and—”

“Danielle,” I sighed, “it’s okay.”

She smiled at me. “Well, are you guys ready to go, then?” Lily asked.

“Yeah, I guess so,” Jake replied, running a hand through his brown hair.

“Okay, let’s go!” Danielle grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the building with Jake and Lily in tow.

“Are you riding with us, Jake?” she asked.

My ears perked up, hoping he’d say yes. Ugh, too bad. “No, sorry.” His eyes flicked to mine before going back to Danielle’s. “I have to take my bike back. The rain died down to a drizzle after all, yeah?”

I frowned and began twiddling with my fingers. After we kissed he won’t even ride with us? Oh well, I guess I can see his point. . .

“Yeah, I suppose so. Anywho! Shall we go?”

“Yes, let’s,” Lily replied. “I’ll see you later, Jake!”

“Kay, bye.” The two hugged. I wish he was hugging me.

I gave Jake a small smile and sat in the back seat of Lily’s car while Lily and Dan sat in the front. Jake turned and got on his bike, driving away.

I sighed and leaned my head against the cold, glass window. The rain left puddles everywhere, and everything looked so much more depressing. It looked like an old painting. Everything seemed to be in black and white. The windshield wipers went back in forth, wiping the old drops of rain away before they were replaced with new ones.

“So did you guys do anything exciting?” Danielle asked, adjusting the rearview mirror so she could look at me and wriggle her eyebrows suggestively.

“Er. . . No.” My cheeks grew warm at the thought of his lips pressed against my own.

She narrowed her eyes at me, giving me a ‘look’ that said “you’re lying.”

“We kissed,” I mouthed into the mirror. I didn’t want Lily to know. Not yet. I’m not even sure if she knows that I like him. Where has she been this whole time?

Danielle’s eyes went wide and she gasped, her mouth forming a big, round ‘O’.

“Danielle, close your mouth. You’re going to let a bug fly in there. Been there, done that,” Lily told here.

I nodded at Danielle. Yep, we kissed.

I touched my lips with my finger, where Jake’s lips had been not that long ago.

What does this mean, though? Does he like me the way I like him? And oh, trust me, I like him a lot more now.

But still, was it just a “spur-of-the-moment” kind of thing?

Hey, guys :D What did you think of that? First person to comment gets a dedication! As usual haha.
