The Bomb

Kevin's POV

"I agree that she is too simple for our community but think about it. You can teach her all the traditions and customs of our religion but you can never teach her the values like simplicity or frankness which are part and parcel of her personality. She is genuine and clearly in love with our son."

That was my father trying to explain to my mum to accept Keyuri in our family, as her daughter in law. It was normal for our family to sit and have discussions after dinner time. We all would talk about what was going in our life and discuss day to day matters. It brought our family closer.

"I agree that she is a great girl. She has a certain warmth in her personality. But yet I feel hesitant to accept her." Admitted my mum.

Let me tell you people, my mum is not completely wrong. I could understand whatever she was feeling. It's difficult to accept someone , who is complete antonym of the definition an ideal daughter in law , as your actual daughter in law. However I wanted her understand that Keyuri was my life now.

I was about to open my mouth but was signalled by grandmum to keep my mouth shut. She whispered "son, let your father and me handle everything"

"Daughter" said my grandmum addressing to my mum " I have a solution to this. You can spend your whole Sunday with Keyuri to know her better. Plus you can take her to all the social events that you visit. Even though she is new to all this, I am sure she would be able to blend in. Plus it would give you time to know her better. After that you can judge her."

An understanding came to my mum's face. She smiled. "Fine I shall spend some time with her and try to understand her. I still can't understand why you all favour her so maybe this would change my opinion."

We all smiled and nodded in agreement. Atleast my mum was willing to give her a chance. That was enough for now.

Keyuri's POV

"How was your day dear?" Asked my dad. It was a part of a typical Indian family routine where all the family members would have dinner together and we all would discuss about our day in detail.

I smiled at the memory of Kevin sneaking inside my classroom and his antics. "My day was great dad" I replied. However I didn't forget to inquire about his new staff. Because it included my Kevin too.

"So dad how's your new staff? I heard that you chose three people from it." I enquired

I could see my father smile. I hoped that the reason behind his smile would be Kevin.

"I chose 3 people and all of them are brilliant. However out of them 1 is very different. His name is Kevin. He is raw and freshly out of education. Not old or experienced. Yet I hired him. I loved his attitude. Let's see how he performs" said dad.

I sincerely prayed to God that Kevin would please my dad with his performance in future.

However I wasn't prepared for the next shock that my mum gave me.

"Keyuri do you remember your promise?" She asked.

"What promise?" I asked clearly realising what was coming next.

My mum reminded me " you had promised that you would see the guys once your exams are over and you get the job. I have made a list of guys from our community and I want you to meet them one by one and select one for your marriage"

She was right. I silently nodded my head. Never in my life I felt so helpless. I needed some time. But didn't know how to delay this 'guys seeing process' further.

"And just for your knowledge, I want you to meet a guy at a cafe on Sunday. I have already talked to his parents. His name is Suhas and he is Mechanical Engineer." Continued my mum.

I could note the look of concern at my brother's face. Parth knew that I was in trouble now. I wished I could play cool in front of parents but lines of worries crossed on my face.

Oh my God. Now what shall I do? Because I had promised Kevin to spend my whole Sunday with his mum and attend her party. Now I was in serious trouble.
