01. Like Any Other Normal Day

Greta Clayton was in the middle of her fourth year at Hogwarts. As a first year, she didn't like the idea of casting spells and flying on brooms, but she had later discovered that being a witch wasn't so bad after all (well, except for the flying part). She loved the spells and the magical animals and going to Hogsmeade, just like any other student at Hogwarts would. In fact, she preferred not to stand out in the crowd. However, that wasn't exactly easy because she was close friends with the infamous Harry Potter. She had been friends with him, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley ever since she had gotten sorted into Gryffindor, and they had all remained inseparable ever since.

Currently, Greta sat by herself in the courtyard, waiting for her friends. As she was waiting, however, three different students approached her; Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. These three loved to pick on Greta, which she was used to by now.

"Hey, Clayton," Malfoy sneered. "Whatcha doing? Waiting for those annoying friends of yours?"

"Actually, I am," Greta said. "However, I don't ever remember them as annoying, Malfoy."

"Is that so?" Malfoy smirked. "Because that's all I ever see out of them."

"You just have no taste in friends," Greta snapped. "Leave me and my friends alone." She crossed her arms.

"Whatever you say, you filthy half-blood," Malfoy scoffed. However, as soon as he turned around to leave, he slowly crept towards Greta until his nose was in her face. "By the way, have you ever thought of removing that zit? It's very distracting."

Greta's face burned red. "B-back off, Malfoy," she stuttered.

"See you later then," Malfoy grinned as he strutted away with Crabbe and Goyle. Not too soon after, Harry, Hermione, and Ron ran towards Greta, a worried expression on their faces.

"Are you alright?" Hermione asked. "We saw Draco talking to you."

"I'm fine," Greta assured, waving her hand up and down. "He was just teasing me as usual."

"It's not ok for him to be doing that," Harry protested. "He sees you as someone he can bully. To us at least, it's not something that you can just brush off."

"I promise this is nothing to get worked up about."

"Why are you covering your cheek like that?" Hermione asked.

"Huh?" Greta hadn't even noticed that she was rubbing her zit nervously. "That's nothing."

Hermione moved Greta's hand away from her face.

"Oh, did Draco embarrass you?" Hermione said softly.

"Maybe," Greta mumbled.

"You don't need to listen to anything that Draco says. We're right here for you "

Greta surrendered. "Fine. You win, guys."

Suddenly, Ron butted in and said, "We'll be late for class. C'mon!"

When they had arrived at DADA, Greta sat next to Hermione and placed her textbooks on the desk.

A few minutes afterwards, Professor Moody stomped in and said, "Put away your books. You won't need 'em!"

Everyone obeyed.

"I've just finished reading a letter from Lupin. It informed me on everything that you've covered. However, you're behind on learning curses," Moody began. "Weasley, name an Unforgivable Curse!"

Ron named the Imperious Curse and Professor Moody released a whip spider from a jar. Greta started to breathe heavily and tremble a bit. She noticed that Ron recoiled. They both hated spiders, although, any other insect would've frightened Greta as well.

Moody thrusted his wand in front of the spider and muttered, "Imperio!"

It was almost like Moody was controlling the whip spider because it was floating in mid air. Moody flung the spider at a girl, then at Ron. Greta could hear Malfoy laughing from behind her and he scoffed slightly.

"What're you laughing at?" Moody inquired as he moved the spider off of Ron and onto Malfoy's face. He was thrashing and yelling for it to get off while Greta's heart was pounding in my chest from fear.

"You next!" Moody placed the whip spider onto Greta's face and she froze for a second to process what was happening.

A silent scream bubbled up in her chest and next thing she knew, it came belting out as she tried to swipe the disgusting thing off of herself. Panic swirled through her body and she couldn't help but start to sob a little. When Professor Moody had finally removed the whip spider from her, she was shaking hard and tears leaked from her eyes as she tried to calm down. Hermione held her hand, which soothed her a little but still wasn't enough. She couldn't listen to the rest of Moody's lesson.

After class, Malfoy purposely bumped into Greta and called her a crybaby before leaving to go to his next class.

"What's his deal?" Hermione huffed. "C'mon, we don't want to be late."

Greta sighed and followed Hermione to their next class.

Why can't I go one day without somebody making fun of me? Greta thought.

It was now time for dinner in Hogwarts and everyone was whispering about something that Greta didn't quite understand. Whatever it was, it was something major.

"Students of Hogwarts," Dumbledore addressed. "Students from Drumstang and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic will be arriving any minute. They will be participating with us in the Triwizard Tournament."

As if right on cue, the door to the dining room suddenly burst open and a ton of foreign students walked inside the room with style.

"Introducing the students from Drumstang," Dumbledore announced. "Oh, look, the students from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic have just arrived as well."

More students arrived this time all girls in baby blue wizarding capes and hats. They put on quite a show as they entered the room performing little tricks on the way to the front where Dumbledore was standing. Everyone was clapping and cheering.  Standing in front of the kids from Drumstang was the one and only Viktor Krum, who is a very popular quidditch player.

"One student from each school will be participating in this tournament. In order to choose, students seventeen years or higher will submit their name into our very own Goblet of Fire," Dumbledore explained as Fred and George Weasley complained about the age rule. "The Goblet of Fire will then pick the names that it thinks will do well and those chosen will participate. Any questions?"

For the rest of the meal, everyone was talking about the Goblet of Fire and the Triwizard Tournament.

"I wonder who will get selected this year," Ron pondered. "I can't wait to find out!"

"Me, too," Harry agreed. "I bet this will be an exciting tournament."

Greta didn't say much. She was too deep in thought. The first thing she thought of was Malfoy's smile. She could feel her face burn red as she brushed the image away. Why was she feeling like this? Malfoy was always so mean to her and her friends. He even called her names like "Filthy Half-Blood", "Teacher's Pet", "Wimpy Gryffindor", and "Crybaby". There was no way that she could possibly…

"Hey, you ok?" Hermione asked. "You seem a bit spacy today."

"Sorry, just lost in my thoughts," Greta said. "You know me and how I get on those days."

She laughed awkwardly for a bit then proceeded to continue thinking when Hermione had decided to continue chatting with Harry and Ron.

When everyone in her house was heading back to the Gryffindor common room, Greta had excused herself to use the restroom. She was going to clear her mind. As soon as she entered the girl's bathroom, she let the water run on the sink and splashed some of it in her face. As she gasped for air, Greta could've sworn that she'd heard the annoying laughter of Moaning Myrtle, the ghost who lived in the bathroom. Greta was slightly creeped out by the ghosts at Hogwarts, so she quickly exited the bathroom as quickly as she could. She had to hurry up anyway to keep up with all the other Gryffindor students. She was walking so quickly that she accidentally ran into someone.

"S-sorry," Greta stammered. "I-I didn't mean to run into you like that."

"It's alright," a voice chuckled. Greta looked up to see a very handsome boy smiling at her. Greta's heart rushed and a pink blush dusted her cheeks.

"I'm Cedric Diggory," the boy introduced. "What's your name?"

"Greta Clayton," Greta said shyly.

"Such a pretty name," Cedric said. "It really suits you."

"Th-thank you…" Greta stuttered.

"Ah, I see you're a Gryffindor," Cedric grinned. "That's a good house to be in."

Greta noticed that he was a Hufflepuff.

"It's nothing special, really," she said. "I don't think I even belong in Gryffindor."

"What do you mean?" Cedric asked. "Here, I'll walk you back to your common room."

"Oh, thank you. Um, to answer your question, I just don't think I'm brave enough to be sorted into a house like that."

"I think Gryffindor fits you the best. No matter where the Sorting Hat placed you, you'll always belong to the house it put you in. I truly believe that."

"You… really think so?"

"Yeah. I mean, I may have just met you, but I can already feel a brave vibe coming off of you. I can see it as bright as day."

Greta blushed a deep shade of red. No one had ever said something like that to her before. Maybe Cedric was right. She had defended herself and her friends from Malfoy all these years and had tagged along with Harry on his adventures.

Soon, Cedric and Greta had arrived at the Gryffindor common room.

"Thank you so much for walking me back here," Greta said gratefully. She bowed to express her thanks.

Cedric chuckled, "It's no problem at all. I promise. See you around?"

"Definitely."

Cedric waved goodbye and wandered off, probably to find the Hufflepuff common room. Greta gave the fat lady the required password and entered the common room, beaming with happiness.

"Woah, what's going on with you?" Hermione asked, smiling.

"I just ran into the cutest boy ever!!" Greta squealed. "His name is Cedric Diggory and he walked me back here. He is so nice and so polite."

"Wow! He sounds like a great guy," Hermione swooned. "You're so lucky!"

Harry and Ron looked a bit jealous, but Greta couldn't understand why. It's not their place to decide which boys Greta and Hermione could like, so why did they seem so angry about it?

"I'm gonna go to bed," Greta announced. "I'll see you guys tomorrow, ok?"

"Good night!" They all replied.

Greta couldn't help but squeal from happiness, knowing that she'd be able to talk to Cedric one again.

I'm sorry if this is going a little too fast! I just didn't want to go through too much editing. Hopefully, my past self decided to slow down the story later on...
