Break the oath - Part 4 - Harrold x Reader
She couldn't rest. The room was warm enough, dark enough, comfortable enough, yet she still couldn't rest. The lady slowly sitting up and pushing her pillows behind her back. (Y/n) letting her head fall backwards onto the feather stuffed material. Her eyes staring up at the dark ceiling that was lit only by the flickering flames of the two candles that sat by her bed. Candles that she should probably have snuffed out some time ago.
(Y/n) was sure that she had been laid in her bed for hours. Well, at least that was how it felt. The castle that lay beyond her door seeming to have quietened down now. The only problem with that though, was that the quiet allowed her to think, and the last thing that she needed to do was think. Her eyes moving from the ceiling to the heavy wooden ingress. The younger Arryn wondering if Harrold was still stood outside. Whether he was still on guard or been relieved from his duties for the night.
She still felt a little guilty for what she had said to the Lord Commander. Still felt a little embarrassed. Yet it was too late to take it all back. It was done and said, and despite the negative feelings that she was experiencing, she knew that she had meant every word. That she would be there if Harrold ever had the desire or want to break his oath of chastity. That she would happily and willingly give herself entirely to the handsome older man.
Slowly the lady moved the covers from her form. A heavy sigh leaving her lips as she placed the very tips of her toes onto the cool floor. (Y/n) allowing herself to become accustomed with the cold sensation before placing her feet fully on the ground, and then rising. The pale haired beauty carefully and silently making her way to the old wooden door. Placing her ear to it, in hopes of being able to hear something from the man that may still stand dutifully outside her rooms.
Part of her.............perhaps the biggest part of her, just wanted to throw open the ingress, grab the Kingsguard by the collar and pull him into her room. Wanted to drag him over to her bed and push him down onto the mattress. Wanted to take the armour, the clothes from his body and show him why breaking his oath of chastity was not the worst thing that he could do. That it didn't mean that he could no longer be a Kingsguard. But the part of her that was winning, was the part that was telling her that such a thing would be ridiculous. That if she did throw open the door, she would either find the man that had taken over from Harrold and would have to try and explain to the confused new guard what was wrong. Or, she would end up just standing there staring wide eyed and speechless in front of the Lord Commander. Another heavy sigh leaving her lips before she turned and made her way back to her bed. (Y/n) dropping face first onto the mattress and screaming into it in utter frustration at the situation.
>>---------------------------------<<
Harrold looked out of the dark window. The half full glass of wine hanging absentmindedly from his fingers. His eyes focused on the flickering torches in the courtyard. He had been relieved of his duties some time ago, the knight giving the door of the lady's room one last look before he reluctantly left. The Lord Commander making his way back to his room.
He hadn't really noticed that he had got there. Hadn't really noticed that he had removed his armour. That he had poured himself a drink and been stood at the window for some time. His mind too filled with what had happened in the library earlier that evening. Too focused on all the thoughts that had been racing through his mind, as he had stood outside the lady Arryn's door. He was conflicted. There was no other way of saying it. Never before had he felt such turmoil inside himself. Never before had he ever questioned any part of his oath. But now..................now the idea of being with the beautiful lady was making him question not only himself, but also his oath. Harrold cursing as the glass dropped from his fingers and shattered on the floor. The wine spreading across the stones and dripping down between them. The Kingsguard letting out a frustrated sigh at his own clumsiness. At the fact that he was being so indecisive. Normally he wasn't like this. Normally he was so black and white. Things were either right or wrong. It was either yes or no. But now he was beginning to see things in multiple shades of grey. He was beginning to see that perhaps he could be with (Y/n) and still be able to be a Kingsguard. Harrold sure that there had been others before him; that there would be others after him that would break part of their oath for a beautiful woman. A woman that he had realised had come to mean so much to him. A woman that he didn't just see as one whom it was his duty to protect, but one that he in fact had come to love. Their time together in the library, as he would stand and watch her read. As she would ask him to come and join her and enquire about all the things that he had seen and experienced. All the places that he had been in his long life. Her curios and intrigued smile making the Kingsguard's heart skip a beat, the best times of his day. The Lord Commander steeling himself before making his way to the door. One way or another this had to be fixed. He had to face her. He had to confront this head on. And one way or another, tonight would change his world.
