prologue
Bast slowly scratched the mahogany table with her claws, her dark hair standing up on her head like an overenthusiastic sea urchin. She flicked her wrists, and her knives appeared in her hands, glittering dangerously under the dim light. She twisted them around, as if wondering how many strikes it would take to behead the centaur seated in front of her.
"What do you mean they don't like it?"
Mimir sighed, "They think it's dangerous for them to know each other. They're planning on tearing the worlds apart. Odin even made a motivational PowerPoint Presentation about it."
Chiron nodded. "They've even decided to take away their memories should it ever come to that-"
He winced as Bast's knives whizzed past him, missing his ears by an inch and planting themselves on the wall behind him.
"Not that I like the idea of our children mingling either, but they have proved to help each other by doing so. Tearing the worlds apart is never going to work. I've gained enough wisdom to know that. Unfortunately, even as Odin's close advisor, it's a hard job convincing him once he's set his mind on something," Mimir bubbled from his fish tank. Water spilled out of the tank and Bast hissed a little.
The singular incandescent lamp flickered slightly above them. The three mythological beings had risked quite a bit meeting out here alone. Even after manipulating the Mist, the Duat and the glamour, the trio was still slightly afraid of the consequences if the gods of their respective pantheons were to ever find out.
A loud thunderclap was heard outside, rattling their jaws, and even more water dripped down Mimir's fish tank.
"We should go," Bast said, standing up and tugging her coat. "I just hope my little kittens don't have to go through any more trouble."
"That is a hard wish indeed," Mimir sighed, his sunken eyes looking even more so, and disappeared under the water, leaving a few bubbles on the surface.
Chiron nodded politely at the feline, and the two parted ways outside the door, hoping they would not have to conduct another such a meeting anywhere in the near future.
Then again, when has luck ever been on their side?
