House of Concern/House of Interrogation

Sarah and Lucille postponed their investigation into the information when Lucille finally decided to go and find Jared, right when he and Niamh were leaving the living room. She made her way to the bottom of the stairs and crossed her arms as they came out into the foyer, not noticing her at first.

Niamh finally spotted her. "I'll-I'll see you later then." She smiled at Jared and then made her way past Lucille, up the stairs.

"Hey, Lucy," Jared greeted innocently.

Niamh stopped in the middle of the stairs to watch Lucille grab Jared's arm and pull him to the kitchen.

For a few moments Lucille just stood and glared at Jared while he stood there unaware of what was going on.

"I have concerns," Lucille finally stated.

"Concerns..." Jared repeated.

"Yes, concerns. With us."

"Did you discover more powers or...have a vision or something?" Jared had no idea what she was alluding to and assumed it had to be something Chosen One or Osirion related.

"No. Us, Jared," Lucille said.

"Oh...Ohhh. Okay," Jared nodded.

Lucille shook her head. "How do I know if you're really like...interested in me?"

"Are you serious?" Jared asked. "I wouldn't be dating you if I weren't."

Lucille rolled her eyes.

"Someone's cranky," Jared remarked.

"Jared, this isn't a joke."

"Hey, I never said it was." Jared hesitated for a moment and took some time to take in Lucille's both angry and solemn expressions. "What's up?"

"I know this might sound a bit possessive and clingy," Lucille began as she paced around, "but I don't want you hanging around Niamh anymore."

"What?" Jared retaliated. "Y-you can't do that. You can't control who I choose to hang with. What do you think-that I'm going to end up falling for her?"

"Yes," Lucille nodded frantically. "Because boys do stupid things like that."

"So much for gender equality," Jared sighed. "Whatever." He just shook his head and turned to leave.

"I-I heard you tell Niamh I didn't matter," Lucille admitted causing Jared to freeze and turn back around. He opened his mouth to say something at the sight of how heartbroken Lucille was, but she continued before him. "So much for being a good boyfriend." Lucille took the authority to exit first.

Later that night at the time Jonah and Jared had planned on heading down to the cellar, Jonah sprang up from his bed and shook Jared to get out of bed. Jared trudged behind him to the kitchen and down to the bread oven where Jared used the locket Jonah borrowed from Lucille for the sole purpose of gaining access down into the cellar that night.

The two of them went down into the cellar straight to where the duffel bags were.

"Alright, so I sort of know what Sekhmet's staff pieces should look like," Jonah declared.

"Mhm," Jared muttered.

"Are you alright?" Jonah asked sensing that Jared wasn't entirely himself.

"Just tired," Jared lied.

"Okay..." Jonah muttered and nodded. He unzipped one of the bags seeing several relics but none which seemed to piece together the staff.

He searched through the next bag.

"I'm a terrible person, aren't I?" Jared suddenly mentioned.

"So you've finally realized," Jonah joked. He recollected himself and continued, "What happened?"

"I think I broke Lucille's heart."

"She's really changed you, hasn't she?" Jonah further inquired, pausing in his search and leaning on the table.

"Haven't gotten much better," Jared shrugged. "I'm just doing everything wrong."

"Then do something right for a start," Jonah advised. "It's really not that hard."

"Have you met me?" Jared held his hands up and gestured toward himself. "I don't do...'right'."

"Well it all starts with a bouquet of flowers and two words which go a little something like...'I'm sorry'," Jonah explained giving his brother a pat on the arm.

He went back to the bags where then he soon pulled out a rod made of something much like bamboo material and coated in a type of gloss meant to enhance and preserve it. Either side had a plug to fit more pieces. He tossed it at Jared and fished for more pieces, and he successfully found the other four identical pieces.

He unzipped the final bag where the blade and the goblet were both buried. The rod with the blade had a button the side of it which would send the blade shooting out from the bottom. The goblet was silver with a red banner stretching around it in the center and tiny engravings at the very top edges. Jared and Jonah shared the load, deciding to take all the pieces with them so that they didn't risk losing them. They headed back through the bread oven and tiptoed back to their rooms hiding the pieces in a box in their wardrobe for the time being.

The next morning, all the students gathered in the foyer after breakfast waiting for Mr. Rainier or Mr. Carroway to escort them to school.

Rachel pulled William to the side.

"I want to go on a date," Rachel stated quickly with her eyes squeezed shut.

William didn't respond.

Rachel slowly opened her eyes to see his mouth agape. She brought up her hand to close his jaw. "So...?"

"Of course!" William shouted a bit too loud. He glanced around and quieted himself down. "I mean...sounds cool."

"Cool," Rachel smiled.

"Cool."

William eventually broke off from her to meet with Sibuna and they all huddled together on their way over to the school with the rest.

"We found the pieces to the staff," Jonah whispered. "They're in our wardrobe...Anything on that mystery man?"

"Lucy and I didn't have a chance to look," Sarah admitted. "We'll get to it some time."

"Well tonight I propose we piece together that staff," Jonah suggested. "We've needed to get past this task for a while now."

"I'm up for it," Sarah agreed and soon, so did the others.

During school, Sarah was in the hall when she noticed the headmaster's office to be busy. She noticed several adults who had come to enter his office within one short period of time, the first of them being Mr. Carroway, then Mr. Harvey, then Mr. Rainier, then Ms. Staffer, then Mr. Duval, and finally, a man she didn't recognize.

She figured these were the seven members to the society, and she'd have to inform the rest of Sibuna about it. Just as she was passing by the office, Ms. Staffer popped out of the office.

"Oh Sarah, dear," she began sweetly, "just the child we needed to see. Come." She gestured inside the office and Sarah had no choice but to obey orders.

The door was closed behind her and she clutched her bag tightly as she grew nervous surrounded by all these potentially dangerous adults.

"You're very familiar with Jared Smith, aren't you?" Mr. Owen inquired from a sitting position at his desk as he interlaced his fingers with one another.

Sarah nodded slowly. She remembered what Jared had mentioned about how Mr. Carroway and Mr. Rainier were onto them about either Sarah or Lucille being the Chosen One. Sarah was determined not to give any hints toward either one of them.

"And you're aware Jared is a...special child, are you not?" Mr. Owen continued.

Sarah cleared her throat. "I-" her voice croaked, "-I don't know what you mean."

"Rutter, please," Mr. Owen addressed her. By her surname as he stood to his feet and rounded his desk, "let's not play games here."

Sarah didn't understand why they were being so demanding with this. She figured there was something at high cost which resulted in them actively seeking out the Chosen One no matter the consequences, and even if she pretended not to know, they were determined to get something out of her.

"If you're suggesting I do know something, I don't," Sarah asserted. "Now please. I have class-"

"-your tardiness will be excused," Ms. Staffer butted-in. "We'll make certain the teacher is aware."

"Let us stray away from Jared," Mr. Carroway led on, "and talk about your mother...Nina, is the name if I'm not mistaken?"

Sarah didn't respond.

"You're surely aware she was special, are you not?"

Sarah wondered how they could've known.

"What about it?" Sarah shifted uncomfortably.

"Of course that is due to a commonly shared ancestor-"

"-well, it doesn't work that way, alright?" Sarah corrected, assuming they were inferring that because she was Nina's child, she had more of a likelihood to be the Chosen One. "And...and either way, it wouldn't make sense because I'm adopted...If you really want to jump to conclusions, it'll get you nowhere. Okay, just-look at my birthday; it proves I'm not the Chosen One."

Sarah suddenly felt like she said too much and left the office before they could stop her. She stood outside the office for a moment to listen in though.

"How could we have been so ignorant?" Mr. Carroway suddenly claimed. "Of course, the birthdays! Check the birthdays of the girls in Anubis house-the Chosen one must be born on the alliterative day of the month at the corresponding time. If we have the date at least, we'll have our Chosen One."

Sarah bit her bottom lip in angst and then headed away realizing she may have made her biggest mistake yet.

Yeah, so this chapter is about 50% longer than the average of mine...But anyway, I hope you enjoyed it! Here are the discussion questions...

Do you think Jared will be able to apologize to Lucille?

Do you think the society will now discover Lucille is the Chosen One?

Until next time, Aristocrats!
