House of Mistrust/House of Distrust
Everyone escaped through the chute. They learned from Eddie and Nina's mistake and waited a few moments before going down after one another.
They all paused in the kitchen, glancing at one another.
"Apep is making us real anxious," Joy said.
"So, until we find the traitor-" Fabian began.
"-or prove there is no traitor..." Nina added.
Fabian continued, "We won't be able to trust eachother."
"So, Sibuna's like, officially on hold?" Amber questioned.
"Precisely," Fabian stated.
~~~~~
Fabian and Nina both sat together in Fabian's room. Their hands were intertwined.
"You're not the traitor, right?" Fabian asked.
"Yes Fabian, I'm the traitor," Nina answered sarcastically. "No, I'd never betray you guys. Are you really paranoid? You seriously think there's a traitor among us?"
"You never know. Hey, the traitor could be possessed too."
"I don't think there's any traitor here."
"Maybe it's someone who already lost our trust like Alfie or Joy when they went out into the forest."
"Fabian."
"I know, I know. Apep's probably just trying to scare us."
When Patricia went into her room, she immediately spotted a sheet of paper on her pillow. She went over to it and picked it up, realizing it was some kind of riddle. She remembered the riddle about the traitor having the next clue. She couldn't be the traitor. She had no recollection of finding that riddle nor decided to betray the others. Was there someone blackmailing her?
"Knock, knock," Eddie spoke at her doorway.
Patricia swung around, hiding the riddle behind her back.
"Is everything alright?"
"Yeah. Yeah, of course."
"Are you sure?"
"Female problems!" Patricia suddenly exclaimed. "Just feminine issues."
"Oh." Eddie backed up. "I'll just go."
Patricia nodded. Once she was sure he was back in his room, she hid the riddle in her dresser and ran through the hallway, up the stairs. She bolted straight into a bathroom, to the sink. She stared at herself in the mirror and then turned on the faucet to splash water on her face.
Patricia looked up into the mirror from washing her face as she turned off the faucet. She dried her face, and after removing the towel, faint, foggy words appeared and disappeared on the glass:
You are the traitor.
"No, I'm not," Patricia said aloud, backing up.
The door to the bathroom slammed closed behind her causing her to twirl around quickly to see it. She back up and bumped back into the sink. She turned around once more and saw her reflection replaced with a dark/evil her version of her, but after she he blinked, her reflection returned to normal.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no," Patricia cried as she sped to the door.
She tried turning the knob, it wouldn't budge. She began banging on the door for someone, anyone to let her out. She heard footsteps storm up the stairs and the door suddenly swung open, Eddie standing right there.
Patricia fell into his arms, shaking. Eddie slowly lowered her and himself to the ground.
"Yacker-Patricia, look at me, look at me," he comforted. "What happened?"
Patricia shook her head. Some of the others came running up soon after. Eddie glanced at them and then looked back at Patricia who was burrowing herself into his embrace.
"I'm here, Patricia," Eddie whispered. "Eddie's here."
~~~~~
"Can you tell me what happened?"
Eddie and Patricia were sitting with eachother in Patricia's room. It was nighttime, Patricia still hadn't revealed what made her freak out so much earlier.
"It was Apep," she admitted. "I think."
"And?"
"He called me the traitor-but I swear I'm not!" she quickly added.
"I believe you, Yacker. I think Apep's just trying to tear us apart. He knows that if Sibuna breaks up, we're weaker. He has his clever tactics."
"What if he targets all of us? What if he makes us all look like the traitor?"
"Then we can't give in. We have to show him we're stronger than he thinks."
~~~~~
"I wonder what happened with Patricia," Amber pondered aloud to Jerome her room.
Jerome was sitting on the floor, leaning against Amber's bed, and Amber was beside him but sitting on the bed. Jerome rested his head on Amber's knees.
"Me too."
"You don't think there's a traitor, do you?" Amber questioned.
"I don't really know. For all I know, I could be the traitor...Or, you could be the traitor, and I could be falling into your trap at this very moment."
"And what trap would that be?"
"Making me fall in love with you."
Amber went silent. Jerome tilted his head to look up at her.
"Shouldn't have said that, should I've? I'm sorry, but I can't deny the fact that I'm developing feelings for you, Amber Millington." Jerome pulled himself up onto the bed, right beside Amber. His face was just inches away from hers. "If there's anyone I do trust, it's you."
Amber couldn't find any words to say.
Jerome stood up. "Good night, Amber."
He left the room, closing the door quietly. Amber tried to comprehend that moment and all the emotions she was currently feeling. She couldn't deny that she was developing feelings either.
