Very Formal Discussions #1: Opinions about the ASOUE Netflix teaser: Meet Count Olaf

So when I woke up this morning today, the first thing I did was check my phone. AND HOLY LORD OF HEAVENS THERE WAS A NEW ASOUE NETFLIX TEASER ENTITLED "MEET COUNT OLAF". I was screaming, crying, hyperventilating and probably dying from my own tears when I first watched the teaser (I've watched it for 16 times already, mind you).

wAIT I CAN'T STOP FANGIRLING AND FLIPPING OUT BECAUSE I HAVE NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THE SERIES AND I'M ABSOLUTELY HyPED AnD I'M SORRY FOR THE WRONG GRAMMAR AND ALL CAPS I JUST CAN'T STOP SQUEALINg--

okay I'm done.

So when I watched the teaser, I already noticed the Visceral Fantabulous Debut detail and I flipping went to that site (VisceralFantabulousDebut.com) without another word and there I knew it, it was another hidden V.F.D. easter egg by Snicket himself. (The first one being VeryFlammableDandelions.com which came from the first teaser trailer with Lemony Snicket in it -- wait of course you guys know this how silly of me, you wouldn't be volunteers if you hadn't.)

I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SAY AND ALL MY THOUGHTS ARE TRIPPING ONTO THE NEXT THOUGHT SO I'M SORRY.

Well, many people in the comment section are absolutely bugged with the fact that Jim Carrey was better blablablah. I mean who the hell cares if Jim Carrey is better? They haven't even seen the whole series yet and they're judging Neil Patrick Harris already, sheesh. Okay I admit his voice was a bit strange to me -- but maybe because we're all used to that Jim Carrey voice for watching that asoue movie since holy Lord that was all what we had for the past freaking thirteen years I mean what else would we volunteers do?

We're all stuck with that "nostalgic" movie that most of has the idea that it was the best. Well, open your eyes up people because it wasn't. Sure, Jim Carrey's acting was spot on. BUT HIS CHARACTERISTICS STRAYED FROM THE BOOK SERIES LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I loved him as a Count Olaf and he sure was a funny, comical great Count Olaf, but I'm praying and betting my hopes up for NPH because I'm still happy that he chose the role rather than some crappy actor from some place. SO I JUST WISHED THEY'D STOP COMPARING AND GIVE NPH A CHANCEEE.

I mean look at this picture:

IT'S COUNT OLAF IN THE BOOKS SERVING THEM THE OATMEAL WITH HIS FAVORITE RASPBERRIES.

And yes, his nose is a bit "weird" but we'll probably get used to it as the show arrives. All I know is, NPH has this dark vibe that I'm absolutely loving, something Jim Carrey didn't have. As Netflix says, it's only the tip of the iceberg anyway.

Neeext up, we have the Baudelaires.

HOLY LORD, THE BAUDELAIRES. VIOLET IS SO PRETTY IT'S MAKING ME INSECURE AND SHE LOOKS A LOT LIKE EMILY BROWNING WHICH MAKES IT MORE AWESOME AND DID I MENTION HOW KLAUS LOOKS SO COOL WITH HIS GLASSES AND SUNNY JUST LOOKS SO ADORABLE -- ALL IN ALL THEY'RE GREAT.

I'M ABSOLUTELY HAPPY WITH THEM. Sunny and Violet are wearing bright dresses, but in my opinion, the colors are suitable and fantastic for their characteristics -- and I'm pretty sure, those were the itchy, colorful clothing that they hate, the ones that Mr. Poe gave them. So they have no choice but to wear them (but I'm pretty sure they'll be wearing darker clothes in the next parts). But even so, I'm contented with it. Next, KLAUS HAS GLASSES PEOPLE. LET'S ALL APPRECIATE THIS LITTLE DETAIL FOR ONCE! 💖 (Remember, Klaus-movie didn't really wear his glasses all the time. And yes, both Klaus's are just 👌 😍)

And the height difference? I think the height difference was okay since Violet and Klaus in the movie was somewhat like that as well. Also, I agree with one comment saying that he/she noticed Klaus was depicted as strangely and incredibly short in the illustrations. Guys, Violet is 14 and Klaus is 12. THEY ONLY HAVE A TWO-YEAR AGE GAP so in my opinion, their height difference here looks more realistic (no, I have nothing against Brett Helquist's illustrations, they're fab 💖). And of course we have nothing against the cute and adorable Sunny Baudelaire! 😍

About Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket (in the previous Netflix teaser)...

I was also a bit nitpicky about Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket since he has this, joyous, theatrical voice that I just didn't see in Snicket -- yes, I still think Jude Law was perfect. But hearing the lines that he was throwing in the teaser, I was a bit surprised because it was so close to what I could hear from Lemony Snicket (the L.S. in the books) himself. (I just don't know why they showed his face for heaven's sake, but there are many theories about that, concerning about him not being the real L.S. etc. -- we'll get to that when we get there.)

On the other hand, some has given great notice to Mr. Poe who is, yes, black here.

Although I did imagine him as a white person, Mr. Poe doesn't look bad in this sneak peek that the trailer has given us. I even think he looks and acts better than the Mr. Poe in the movie! Besides, his race or color was not specified in the books which makes the books even more awesome, since characters are so wide and vast that they could almost be anyone and anything.

For the props and background, I have nothing to say. Like oh dear God thank heavens because the set looks freaking amazing and it stays true to the books!
