They laid on the bed, legs tangled, the only thing covering their sweaty bodies was a thin sheet.
Penelope adjusted her position so her head rested on his chest, and his arm instinctively wrapped around her body.
"Why did you stay here?" She questioned, breaking the serene silence that had settled in the room.
"It was late, I didn't want to crash," Damon recalled.
"No, after that. You stayed another night. And you're still here, 6 months later."
He was quiet for a moment, pondering on both the question and his answer.
"I don't know. I really don't," he answered truthfully. "I wanted to leave, but there was something about you that made me stay."
Silence settled between them once more, neither knowing what to say. The silence was neither peaceful nor awkward; it was simply quiet, like being underwater.
"I'm gonna let you in on a little secret." She moved up towards his ear. "It's near impossible to leave the hotel; we are all just prisoners here of our own device."
Penelope pressed her soft red lips to his cheek and changed her position so that her head rested on his hard chest once more.
She wanted to stay with him, living in that moment for the rest of eternity.
But nothing lasts forever.
