one m i l l i o n reads q&a!

thank you so much for a million reads! it's completely bizarre. as promised, here's a q&a to celebrate all of the support you guys have shown this story, and honestly, me in general. i received a lot of questions that were the same, or very similar, so i have combined quite a few of them. thank you again for a million reads!

q: out of all the books you've written, which is your favorite?
a: i really enjoyed hot line. it was really light-hearted and fun. but i'm currently really, really enjoying writing when my shift ends. i'm probably the proudest of my writing with that story!

q: favorite band?
a: i am absolutely horrible with picking favorites. but if i had to... the 1975, one direction, or marianas trench. those are my top three.

q: favorite color?
a: i wear a lot of black. green reminds me of trees and trees remind me of home. i really like the color red, for no real reason other than just enjoying the color. again, i'm horrible with favorites lol. please forgive me.

q: favorite weather?
a: the perfect day, weather-wise, would be a crisp autumn afternoon, where the sun is shining but you still need a jacket because it's chilly out. that's my perfect day. but i also really enjoy rainy grey days as well.

q: are you the shy type?
a: yes and no. i'm kind of internally shy. i might talk to new people and seem confident enough in myself while doing so, but i could also be dying on the inside. it really depends how intimidating i find the person to be.

q: where do you live?
a: seattle!

q: when are your books getting published?
a: realistically, probably never haha. we'll see though. maybe one day!

q: if tee hadn't said she liked evan first, how long would it have taken evan to realize he liked tee?
a: i think it would've taken him quite a bit to realize he really liked her, just because he sort of saw her as unattainable for so long. like, for a while he didn't even think they'd ever be friends in person, let alone dating. but i'm sure he would've been smacked by reality sooner or later.

q: how did tee become a sex line operator? how do you even get hired for that?
a: i imagine she saw an ad online or something and then did some research and decided it'd be good for her. i'm not 100% sure how the interview would go down... maybe you have to prove your skill... which makes me feel very... odd.

q: how do you come up with such great story ideas? what inspires you to write?
a: i take inspiration from anything and everything. any time i have even a semblance of an idea, i make note of it and eventually try to find a way to use all these random ideas for my stories. most of my ideas get combined with other ideas i've had to create one massive idea. for example, when my shift ends was created when i wanted to write about a guy who worked in a graveyard, and a guy who had cancer. i just decided the story would be even better if the two ideas merged.

q: when is evan going to buy a fiona cutout for his bathroom?
a: probably on their two-year anniversary. once he knows things are serious enough.

q: when are tee and evan going to get married and have kids?
a: homegirl has to finish college first and get a career started. it would probably take quite a while before any little evans or little teagans started running around.

q: where did the love of shrek begin for evan?
a: when he was... a young boy... his father... took him into the city.
just kidding. i like to think that, like me, evan just felt a personal connection with shrek when he was a young child and that personal connection just never faded away.

q: who's your favorite published author?
a: i don't really have a favorite, which i know is sort of a rubbish answer. the hunger games trilogy is what got me into reading though, so maybe suzanne collins. i'm still trying to find my favorite author.

q: who's your favorite wattpad author?
a: i have too many talented friends on here to pick a favorite. just check out who i follow or my reading list, "if you were a fruit you'd be a fineapple." i can't rank my friends hahah.

q: what type of music do you listen to?
a: i honestly listen to all sorts of stuff. but i'll list a few of my favorite artists: the 1975, one direction, marianas trench, fka twigs, twenty one pilots, panic! at the disco, halsey, the weeknd, five seconds of summer, little mix, adele, ed sheeran, etc etc. i could go on and on. my problem is that i'll listen to one song by an artist, really like it, and then never check out any of their other stuff. i have no idea why i'm like this.

q: where did you get your inspiration for this story?
a: i like the idea of taking sort of taboo things and trying to make them innocent. the idea of a guy calling a sex line to vent is just a thought i've always had that i think is cute and funny. i'd also always wanted to try writing a dialogue story and so i just finally wrote it!

q: how did you come up with someone as loveable as evan (and cooper and dun while i'm asking)?
a: what can i say? the guys in my head are much better than the guys in real life. no, but really. i just write about the guys i wish existed.

q: do you have any writing tips (for dialogue stories + stories in general)?
a: read a lot. reading helps you discover what you like and don't like in other stories. it also helps you develop your own voice, broaden your vocabulary, and overall is just really healthy in the writing process. remember that writing is hard. it's going to get difficult and sometimes it's going to feel like you'll never finish a story. but if it's what you love, just stick with it. it's also okay to fall out of love with a piece you're writing. sometimes you lose inspiration. as for dialogue stories, really try to be sure you're writing realistic dialogue. write in a way that people actually speak. it honestly makes or breaks a dialogue story for me.

q: why do you like shrek so much?
a: why are you judging my life choices?

q: do you have pets?
a: not currently, no. i want a dog so badly though.

q: why wouldn't you write a steamy scene for us, like a romantic sexual one? that's what teagan did for money!
a: the idea of anyone i know finding this story and reading a hot and heavy sex scene just makes me cringe so hard. i think i can handle explaining the memes, but explaining the sex... no thanks. i don't have the confidence for it.

q: why a sex line of all places?
a: for teagan: guys pay an oddly large amount of money for sex acts. it's smart business.
for evan: he just saw an ad on late night tv and fate brought him to tee.

q: will you love me?
a: buy me dinner first.

q: of all the characters you've created in your stories which one is your favorite and with which one can you sympathize the most?
a: hm. i really like evan. he's probably my dream guy. but i also really like cooper, and i definitely sympathize with cooper a lot because he has cancer.

q: when are you going to update creep again?
a: creep is long gone and it's not coming back, my friend.

q: are you going to miss writing about evan and teagan?
a: yes! they are adorable and funny and incredibly fun to write about. but stories have to end eventually and i look forward to the people i'll write about in the future.

q: how do i make it big on wattpad?
a: make friends. read other writers' stories. be open to criticism, but don't take people's bullshit when they're trying to wrong you. have an appealing cover and summary. be sure to read over and edit all of your work, there are bound to be a few mistakes but at least try and fix them when you can. post regularly. be active in the forums. i don't know, really. there's no perfect science. just write because you love to write and hopefully the rest will follow. don't get caught up in the numbers game of wattpad, i know it's discouraging to see small numbers, but don't start writing for the wrong reasons.

q: how's your life going?
a: it's going all right. i'm a college graduate who's trying to find a real adult job now so that's interesting.

q: have you ever had a relationship or friendship online with a guy you really began to like? did that motivate you to come up with the plot of the story?
a: i have never had an online romance, no. not unless the chatrooms i used to go on when i was twelve count.

q: where did you come up with the name teagan?
a: i've always liked the name teagan. i think it's really cute. but a lot of the times, when i can't think of a name, i turn to google!

q: how did you come up with the characters and their characteristics?
a: this may sound a bit narcissistic, but all of my characters are a part of me. i relate to all of my characters because i am all of my characters. the only difference is that i also give them traits that i aspire to have, like confidence. my characters are half me and half who i aspire to be.

q: do the characters represent you or anyone you know?
a: yes. as i previously mentioned, the characters are half me and half who i aspire to be. i'm not totally sure if the characters represent people i know. maybe they do subconsciously, but i don't purposefully try to shape them after people i know. i actually try to avoid that as it makes it really difficult for me to write about the characters if they resemble people from my real life.

q: can we have more au's for this story?
a: i don't think so. i feel that the story sort of left off where it was meant to leave off. it feels right where it ended for me.

q: WILL THERE BE A SEQUEL?!
a: no, there will not be. as i mentioned before, the story left off where it was meant to leave off. i've told their story and i'm going to leave the rest up to imagination.

q: favorite chapter to write?
a: i think i have three favorite chapters. i liked writing about them texting memes back and forth, because i got to laugh a lot during it. i also really liked the date that turned out to be a dream, because i like to see strong emotional reactions from readers. and i really liked the chapter where they finally met.

q: least favorite chapter to write?
a: i don't love the chapter where evan talks to chris for the first time on the phone. i feel like the buildup was a bit dramatic and that whole portion of the story makes me cringe a little bit. i try to avoid reading it. it just felt too dramatic for me, i don't know.

q: what are your most played songs?
a: they are constantly changing. but right now it's honestly just been a lot of the weeknd's album 'starboy' on repeat lol. i've also been listening to the song weight in gold by gallant an absurd amount of times.

q: can you read this?
a: yep. i can even respond to it.

q: how long has tee been a sex line operator?
a: less than a year when the story started. she only started working as a sex line operator when chris got in his accident.

q: sexy gifs of evan?

q: how many attempts does it take to get an idea good enough to write a story?
a: i will either sit on an idea for months, waiting to find a way to perfect it, OR i will come up with an idea and immediately start writing it. there is no in-between.

q: what made you come up with the shrek in the bathroom idea?
a: i was trying to think of a weird place to put a cutout of someone and the bathroom just worked. i can't imagine sitting on a toilet while you stare into shrek's eyes.

q: do you ever get annoyed with decisions your characters make?
a: oh yeah. all the time. but i sort of like seeing the readers annoyed so it gives me a sick sense of pleasure too. i like strong emotional reactions with stories. it shows me that people care about the story.

q: is this based on a real story?
a: nope. i don't know anyone who has ever phoned in a sex hotline. it's just a concept i came up with in my head!

q: why did you write this as a dialogue story?
a: i just really liked the idea of dialogue stories and wanted to try one out for myself. it seemed to fit with the idea of calling a sex hotline so i just went for it.

q: what kind of relationship do you have with your characters?
a: they each have a little special place in my heart.

q: would you personally call a sex hotline to make a friend?
a: no. i'm too broke for that. and i reckon the results would be disappointing in comparison to the outcome of this story.

q: do you make friends easily?
a: eh, somewhat. i'm good at acting comfortable in a situation, even if i'm dying on the inside. i can make acquaintances pretty easily but genuinely good friends take a bit more work and time. i get along well with people though.

q: how many friends have you made by just taking initiative and introducing yourself?
a: in sixth grade, i became best friends with this girl after calling her up one day out of the blue and asking if she wanted to have a sleepover. i only called her because none of my friends could hang out but we ended up spending every day of that summer together and being best friends for years. we're still friends today, be it distant friends, but it paid off to take a chance by calling her that day. though, to be honest, it's not something i frequently do.

q: which character are you going to miss writing most?
a: evan. though if you read my old story 'creep,' i really liked ryan and i miss writing him.

q: what are your favorite pair of heels?
