chapter nine

"IT'S GOOD TO have you back, kid," Richie greeted me with a wide grin when I entered the kitchen at Hittos. I struggled to return the smile, nodding.

"Yeah, I'm glad to be back," I stated. It was true, I was happy to be back to normal and at work, but I mainly wanted to go back to the loft to talk with Derek.

"I'm, personally, not glad to have you back," Olivia sassed as she came in to get a plate of food, giving me a once over, "You remind me why I hate working in this dump."

"I've really missed you too, Olivia," I replied sarcastically. She scoffed and rolled her eyes, beginning to walk away, her pony tail swaying.

"Bite me, Lahey."

Richie and I shared a small smirk before I headed out to take orders. Slipping back into something as ordinary as work was comforting, though I was still seething. Derek Hale had a lot coming the second I got back, and I knew he wasn't expecting it. I was going to give him hell.

I was planning out multiple different things to scream at him as I headed to deliver a plate of food to a lonely girl sitting in a booth. She offered me a smile as I placed it in front of her.

I turned and started heading back to the kitchen, harshly colliding with Olivia. A cup of ice water conviently landed on me and not Olivia, drenching my shirt as I gasped.

"Seriously?!" Olivia snapped in exasperation, "Can you stop being a dumb bitch for three seconds?" She leaned closer to me with a glare. I scoffed as I raised my brows.

"As soon as you get your own head out of your ass," I took a step closer to her. She seemed slightly shocked that I'd actually talked back to her. She gave me a once over before rolling her eyes and going to refill the now empty glass.

I, on the other hand, was forced to head into the back to grab a spare shirt to change into. I was rummaging through my bag when a hand creeped under my skirt. I flinched at Chuck's presence. He turned me around so I was facing him, pressing my back against the wall. His eyes were focused on the transparency caused from the cup of water.

"Poor baby," he cooed as his other hand ran along the patch of water on my shirt, aka my boobs. I tensed up and tried to back away, "I can help you out of this."

His hand was now starting to slip beneath the side of my underwear. I pushed against his hands, trying to get him off of me. Tears pooled in my eyes.

"I think she'll manage on her own, Chuck," Richie said sternly. I flicked my eyes over to him. He was stood with his arms crossed, spatula in hand and a fiery glare in his eyes. Chuck chuckled under his breath, grazing over my ass once more before he pulled away and disappeared.

"Thank you," I whispered to Richie, fighting off the tears in my eyes.

"That bastard deserves to be put away," Richie left it at that, turning and walking away.

The few seconds that had just passed reminded me, as Olivia would say, why I hated working in that dump.

* * * * *

It'd be the understatement of the century to say I was livid when I returned to the loft after work. The sun had set and I was reminded of why I was pissed off at Derek Hale, the conviently attractive douche I was living with.

I was somewhat channeling the rage I felt towards Chuck towards the current situation. I couldn't help but slam the front door upon my entering, both announcing my arrival and clueing towards the fact that I was pissed.

My bag hung from my clenched fist as I stalked further into the loft. Derek casually strolled out of the kitchen, sending me a tiny smile.

"I was wondering when you'd be home," he stated, nodding at me. I didn't say anything as I dropped my bag to the floor, not halting my harsh footsteps. Derek seemed confused by my obviously sour mood, "Is something wro--"

I cut him off with a forceful swing of my fist towards his face. It struck him in the temple, knocking him back and causing him to stumble. Most of it was probably due to shock. I didn't hesitate to pull back and punch his jaw this time. He was on his knees clutching his face when I stepped closer going to hit him again.

This time, Derek caught my fist and rose to his feet, "What the hell is going on?!"

I threw my other hand towards him but he easily caught it.

"You're a fucking douche bag, that's what the hell is going on!" I screamed at him, trying to pull my hands out of his grip.

"Calm down!" He called out. I ignored his words.

"You fucking lied to me!" I screamed. I finally managed to yank myself away from him, stepping back, "You and your stupid pack went to try and kill a teenage girl!"

"I thought she was the kanima," Derek said as if it suddenly made it okay. I scoffed and shook my head.

"So what?! You were really going to kill her even though she's only sixteen?!"

"It had to be done," Derek crossed his arms.

"Oh, I'm sure it did," I nodded sarcastically as I stepped forward again, "It makes perfect sense, why wouldn't you kill a child for something they can't control?"

I laughed humorlessly, "Where is the line drawn, Derek? Who are you willing to kill?"

"The kanima is a killer, it killed your own dad," he snapped.

"And who was it that gave Jackson the bite?" I tilted my head in mock confusion, "Oh, and let's not forget the fact that you not only lied to me, but you got my brother to lie to me as well!"

He remained silent, avoiding my eyes.

"You had sex with me and then you went right back to being a total dickwad!" I scoffed again, "And, you know, it got me thinking. What are the odds that I randomly got sick within the perfect time slot for you to both turn Boyd and attempt the murder of a teenager."

Derek sighed at this, looking down. He still wouldn't meet my eyes.

"Just tell me the truth this once. Did you do something to make me sick?"

"I couldn't let you get in the way," Derek said like it was nothing. Him locking eyes with me seemed to snap something within me again.

I found my fist colliding with his face once again. He didn't stumble as much this time. I felt like I was seeing red, aimlessly slamming my hands against his chest, desperate to at least do some damage. Derek caught my upper arms, leaving me to thrash around in his grip. I slowly stopped fighting, breathing deeply and glaring up at him through my baby hairs.

"You were being so nice to me. I was starting to like you, I thought you were nice," I slowly shook my head, "You only did it out of pity. You only treated me decently because you felt bad about poisoning me."

"I'm sorry," Derek grumbled out, staring down at me with a blank look. I huffed.

"Don't bother wasting your breath apologizing. I'm done with you, Derek. I can hardly even look at you."

I finally removed myself from his grasp. I bumped his shoulder as I walked past him, storming upstairs. I didn't pay any attention to Isaac as he stood near the door to my room, staring at me.

I simply barged in and headed directly for the large duffel bag sitting in the corner. I tossed it onto the bed, then going to start grabbing various articles of clothing.

"What are you doing?" Isaac asked softly as he entered my room. I didn't look at him as I frantically moved around, stuffing my things into the bag.

"I'm leaving," I said in a cracky tone. I didn't have room for a few things of my clothes, so I just left them behind. I felt angry as I shoved my stuffed animals into the bag. I left a few that didn't fit.

"You can't," Isaac called out. I walked past him with the bag on my shoulder and into the bathroom. I grabbed whatever I had in there while Isaac trailed behind me like a lost puppy.

"I have to," I shook my head. I tried to move out of the bathroom but he blocked my path.

"You promised," He whispered, "You promised you'd be a better sister. Sister's don't just abandon their brothers, Julia."

My eyes were glossy as I met his blue ones, "You lied to me, Isaac. You went to kill somebody. You just sat by and let Derek sicken and manipulate me."

He now looked regretful, lowering his head, "I'm sorry, Jules."

"So am I, Isaac," I said quietly.

"I don't want you to stay mad at me. I don't want you to leave," he said sadly, "I love you, you're my sister."

"You should've thought of that before, I guess," I sighed. I hated this, but I couldn't stay there. Not with Derek and not with this person he was turning my brother into, "I'll see you around, Isaac. I love you."

I carefully slipped around him, rushing away and down the stairs. I sniffled and wiped away tears, grabbing my bookbag and slinging it on my shoulder with the other.

"Where will you go?" Derek called from where he stood a few feet away, brooding. I barely spared him a glance as I darted for the door.

"Anywhere away from you," I muttered, slamming the door behind me. I only felt slightly more free.

I halted my footsteps.

Was I really going to leave? What would that do to Isaac? I'd made a promise that I'd be a better sister and now I was storming out. I was practically having a hissy fit.

I silently wished that Camden was here. He always knew what to do and though sometimes he had questionable logic, I lived by everything he said. Every word he ever spoke to me was engraved into my mind.

I gulped as I slowly exited the entire building and began walking down the sidewalk. I had no idea where to go. I planned on going to Joey's, but I didn't want to have to explain anything. I just wanted to sleep everything off. Maybe when I woke up I'd realize everything was just a dream.

I slowly came to a stop and sat myself down on the curb. I let my bags rest beside me and placed my head in my hands, my elbows on my knees. I couldn't stop thinking about Isaac and Camden.

I was sobbing loudly when I entered the house, also soaking wet from the rain I'd just biked home in. I was shaking. A twelve-year-old Isaac slowly got closer to me, a frown on his lips.

"Julia?" He asked, "What's wrong?"

Those words only caused me to cry harder, wrapping my arms around myself as I shyed away. Isaac carefully walked closer and stuck his hand out to rest on my shoulder. I flinched away from it, shaking my head.

"Don't touch me," I cried out, "Please don't touch me."

Isaac now had glassy eyes, as he slowly lowered his hand, "I'm sorry, Julia. Did daddy do something bad?"

I cringed as I thought about what had just happened. I felt dirty, my boss' hands on me was wrong. I knew it was and it made me feel like throwing up.

"No, Isaac. It wasn't dad."

"What the hell's going on?" Camden appeared as well, his brows furrowed as he took in my appearance, "Julia?"

He walked closer and sighed, wrapping his arms around me. I shrieked as I suddenly felt like I couldn't breath. It reminded me of what Chuck had done to me and I needed to get away. I roughly shoved Camden off of me before I ran up the stairs.

"Julia! Stop, what's wrong?" He called out as he chased after me. I beat him to my room and slammed the door, locking it. I fell to my knees, where I began chocking on both the air and my tears.

"Leave me alone!" I screamed through the door, a strangled cry following it. Everytime I closed my eyes I could see Chuck, one of his hands covering my mouth as the other undid my pants.

"Julia, please, talk to me," Camden's voice was soft and sweet, trying to get me to open up, "I won't get mad or hurt you, I promise."

My chest heaved as I wondered his words, shaking my head, "I don't wanna talk about it, Cam."

"I just want to know why my sister's crying, okay?" He called out in annoyance. I sighed as I slowly turned and unlocked the door, moving back. Camden opened it and came through a moment later, shutting it behind him. I had my legs curled up against me and my chin resting on my knees.

Camden plopped down in front of me, crossing his legs as he scrutinized me, "So what's up?"

"Chuck," I whimpered, his name feeling like acid on my tongue, "He-He. . ."

I couldn't continue, my mind reeling with everything that'd happened.

"Spit it out, Jules," Camden said expectantly.

"He tried to rape me," I cried out, hiding my face in my arms. My shoulders shook with my heavy cries.

"Tried to?" Camden asked. I nodded without lifting my head.

"Richie got him off me," I whispered.

"Oh," Camden sounded relieved, "So nothing actually happened?"

I shot my head up, giving him a confused look, "He had me pinned against a wall. He was groping me and touching me when I told him to get off of me."

"Well, yeah, but nothing actually happened happened," He shrugged. I stared at him with my jaw hanging slightly. He patted my knees, making me flinch before he stood up, "You'll be okay, just get over it. You don't need to cry about it, okay?"

I said nothing as he exited my room. I heard him talking to Isaac, who must've been standing there.

"What happened to Julia?" He asked quietly.

"Nothing," Camden spoke, my heart dropping, "Julia's just upset over nothing. Girls are like that sometimes."

I sobbed into my knees where I sat there under the dimly lit street lights, rethinking my current situation in contrast. Was I overreacting? Should I have gone back to the loft and apologized?

I was utterly clueless and heartbroken. I shouldn't have expected much different from Derek, but Isaac? I'd never of seen it coming.

"Julia?!"

I quickly looked up at the sound of a familiar voice calling my name, my heart racing in my chest. I was surprised to see a baby blue Jeep sitting there, none other than Stiles Stillinski leaning out of the window with a confused face.

"What are you doing? It's late," he continued. I gulped as I wiped at my cheeks, trying to dry them.

"Nothing," I replied pathetically.

"Do you want a ride back to Derek's?" He offered. I stood up and grabbed my bags, walking over to the vehicle.

"I could use a ride, but not to Derek's," I shrugged. Stiles was clearly confused but shrugged and popped open the door. I sighed as I got in, closing the door behind me.

"Where to?" He asked, staring at me. I told him Joey's address and he nodded, taking off in that direction, "Are you running away or something?"

I shot him a bland look, rolling my eyes.

"Where are you coming back from this late?" I asked, suddenly curious.

"Uh, nowhere," Stiles said, incredibly skeptically. It was nearly comical how bad of a liar he was.

"You can tell me, you know," I rested my head against the seat as I looked at him, "I'm not on good terms with Derek anyways, so it's not like I'm gonna tell him."

"What about Isaac?" He briefly glanced over at me. I sighed through my nose.

"I'm kinda mad at him too. Besides, snitches get stitches," I shrugged.

"Fine," Stiles relented, "We kidnapped Jackson and were holding him in a prison transport van until we figured out how to fix him, but he went crazy and escaped. Now he has a restraining order against me and Scott. I was just at the police department."

I chuckled softly, shaking my head as I gazed out the window, "I shouldn't have asked."

"Okay, now your turn," Stiles ignored my words, "Why are you mad at Isaac and Derek?"

"Remember how I was sick?" I started. Stiles nodded, "It's because Derek poisoned me or something so that he could turn Boyd and try to kill Lydia. Isaac knew and didn't even try to do anything about it."

"Wow," Stiles said after a few silent moments, "I guess I'm glad I'm an only child."

I couldn't help but smile as I looked over at him. He was honestly starting to grow on me, though he was still a total spaz.

The rest of the ride was spent in a comfortable silence, myself struggling to stay awake. I opened my eyes when we came to a stop, and I recognized Joey's house out my window.

"Thanks for the ride, Stillinski," I said as I grabbed my bags.

"Yep. See you at school tomorrow," he finished his sentence with an unnecessarily awkward wave. I smiled as I hopped out of the Jeep, closing the door behind me and approaching Joey's house. Stiles didn't drive away until I began going around to the back.

I climbed the tree with ease, proceeding to knock on his window. I heard a small, girly shriek before the curtain was drawn back, revealing Joey in nothing but a pair of sweatpants.

"And what did I do to deserve the presence of my favorite murderer? Late night booty call?" Joey greeted as he rolled up his window. I rolled my eyes as I tossed my bags inside, then pulling myself in.

"I was hoping your offer of a place to stay was still available," I smiled up at him. He chuckled as he nodded.

"It was only a matter of time before this happened," he said before taking a seat on the edge of his bed. I sat beside him with a small huff, "So where's Isaac?"

I hesitated for a moment, trying to think of what to say.

"I just didn't get along with his friend that we were staying with," I said carefully.

"Well color me shocked," Joey said dramatically, "Julia Lahey allowing her brother to stay with someone she doesn't trust? Unheard of!"

I smiled as I bumped his shoulder with my own, rolling my eyes, "Oh, hush. I know he won't hurt Isaac. He's just a general douche."

"Guys tend to become dicks around hot girls, I don't know what the deal is," he shrugged.

I hummed with yet another eye roll.

"Well I was sleeping before you so rudely interrupted, so I'd like to get back to that. You know where the bathroom is."

I nodded and stood up, grabbing a pair of shorts, a long-sleeved shirt, and my facewash before heading into his bathroom. I quickly changed, washed my face, and brushed my teeth before I emerged.

"Hit the light on your way," Joey said from where he was under his duvet on his bed. I nodded and flicked off the light overhead as I walked over to his bed.

I felt more safe in his bed than I did at the loft. His bed felt more like home at the moment.

It was easy to fall asleep cuddling my best friend after the day I'd had.
