"I don't bake and I know this is wrong! I'm literally centimeters away from going to the store and getting the box mix." King slammed his head on the kitchen counter.

"It can be that hard King~ You loved brownies when you were younger." He raised his head.

"I also weighed three times what I am now, your point is? And you're still eating the damn batter, BAN!"

"Its pretty good, and if you're not using it I will." King started laughing.

"Good to know that you like eating raw eggs." Ban dropped the spoon and drowned himself in bottles of water.

"You're a dick you know that."

"Takes one to know one. Now help me find a recipe that WORKS." They searched for a good 15minutes before common sense kicked in for King.

"Wait. Why didn't we just call Diane, the girl loves food so she must know how to bake." Ban agreed with his statement and they called her. She told them what she knew and after several try's  they got it right.

King cut it, bagged it and put it in the fridge for tomorrow. Hopefully Serenity thought they were good enough, he liked them but would she. He was lost in thought until Ban spoke up.

"So lemme get this straight, you like a girl who is literally sitting on her death bed?"

"Not like that dummy. She has no one else except her older sister who can't be there all the time so I filled that spot for now." Ban eyed his bestfriend knowing very well that was the biggest lie he ever heard. And he was quite good at lying.

"Sure~ I said the same thing about Elaine and look what happened. I don't really care about what you do, as long as you don't spend the rest of your life alone because you can't get over her. She'll be back one day."

"So what if I like her. I didn't plan on actually having a relationship in this lifetime anyway. I would just adopt, raise the kid and then go on with the rest of my life."

"But then she came and put a dent in those plans." King looked down as if he was ashamed.

"Look I know its not fair that a girl like her who got stuck with a shitty family to go through this too. The worse part is yet to come and i'm pretty sure she wants you there. You were there for that other patient without even knowing it. As your bestfriend and the only person who you can stand besides Diane, be there for her like she'll always be there for you." King looked up at Ban.

"Thanks. Look at you being sentimental, I should tell Elaine to look forward to your vows." He laughed while Ban glared at him.

"You tell her anything and I will personally make sure her brother couldn't make it because of an 'accident'."

"I'm hurt, but not surprised." They talked for awhile before Ban left and King did some work for the hospital. Apparently even as an intern you get dumb amounts of paperwork.

"Good Morning Serenity!" Said King.

"Good morning! You're later than usual." King sat the bag he had on the bed and sat in the chair next to it.
"I didn't have anyone to check up on like I usually do so they told me to come in around this time. Oh! I brought you a gift, its in the bag." She looked in the bag and King saw tears in the corner of her eyes.

"Hey don't cry! I'm sorry if you don't like them." She sniffed and went to hug King.
"I love these, how did you know?"
"I heard part of your conversation with your siblings and since you can't leave I thought i'd attempt to make them like you used to. Wait I forgot to ask, can you still have sugar?" Serenity started laughing.

"Even if I couldn't i'm not getting any better so why not spend my last few months or days eating what I love. Yes I can eat sugar, just not a lot, like one is probably the most." King nodded while Serenity ate one of the brownies.

"These are amazing, thicker than I usually make them but still amazing."

"Still doesn't excuse the fact that I messed that part up." She laughed again.

"I only make the batter a little thinner because one, I like to add tons of chocolate and two, trying to get it from in between your teeth without a toothpick around is annoying."

"Totally agree." He looks down at his watch and sees he has to get going.

"I should be getting back at the usual time, maybe earlier. You're doing fine right?" She smiles and nods.

"Geez, I can't believe its almost over." King rights down the last thing Serenity told him about her checkups while she talks.

"You'll come visit when its over right? I know they call this an internship but its more or less volunteer work." He finishes writing and answers with a 'yes'.

"Hey I have a question Serenity."

"Ask away." He pauses for a few seconds.

"You're not allowed to leave but we can bring stuff to you right?" She nods.

"I'll be finished before the New Year but would you like me to bring some stuff so you can kinda celebrate here?"

"I would love that! Thank you King, cya tomorrow." King says goodnight and exits her room.

When he closes the door Serenity breaks out in a huge coughing fit and her throat starts to hurt. She's starting to lose her voice.

He may already know this but January could possibly be my last month here...
