Day 2

It's been two weeks since King started working with Serenity and her parents haven't been back since.

Occasionally he'll catch her on the phone with her big sister, the only one who answers when she calls. Other times he'll see her doing school work, she's closed to being done with school and just wants to finish this one thing. The severe side-effects haven't gotten to her yet, she can still function like a normal person. Just a very under weight person.

"Hey Mr. Harlequin, wanna see pictures from when I used to be healthy?" He nodded his head and crouched down next to her bed.

"I used to play volleyball. I might not look like it at first glance but I was standing at 5'11. I'm 6'0 with certain shoes." King was surprised.

"Wow. I wasn't close to being that tall in high school, I just recently started growing. We're the same height." Serenity nodded and asked a question.

"You're like a therapist right?"

"In some terms, yes I am. I'm here to make you comfortable and meet all your needs. I'm a doctor without the practice and qualifications. A support doctor, you're my main patient but I do help others." She asked another question.

"You have friends right? Mines stopped talking to me when I got sick, the only one who stayed got really sick and didn't make it. He was my best friend/lifeline." King didn't know what to say to that statement. Here's one of the cases when he had to be careful of not being insensitive.

"Uh yeah I guess I have friends. My closest friend is this guy named Ban. He's a literal giant, almost if not 7feet tall. Has a little bit of a hunch though but he's cool. Gets on my last nerves but he's a good friend." Serenity smiled.

"Why does he annoy you so much?" King internally face-palmed and cringed.

"He's uh, dating my sister. I hated it at first but he makes her happy so I suck it up." She started laughing.

"Oh my gosh, he sounds fun! You should bring him to visit, i'd love to hear about your questionable teenage years." King panicked.

"U-uh nope. Horrible idea, great human being horrible person." She laughed and their conversation went on until King had to check on the other patients he had. Apparently one had passed last night while he was gone. They left a note thanking him for listening to them and getting them to talk to their family one last time. The patients family actually showed up and stayed until their final moments. Character development at its finest.

As he was walking back to Serenity's room he saw her primary doctor. And decided to ask that dreadful question.

"Hello Dr. Elizabeth I wanted to ask a question about Serenity." She set her clipboard down.

"Ask away Harlequin."

"About how long does she have. If her family isn't going to give her the best moments of her life in only a couple months, then I will." He grew attached. He knew it was wrong but he couldn't help but be drawn to her. She was perfect, even if no one else thought that. And he wanted to be one of the best memories she had.

"Well she's doing great with her treatments and her weight is regulated. She should still be here for a couple more months after New Years." He thanked her and proceeded to walk away.

"Oh and she loves the snow. So if she's still able to, take her to the walking area so she can feel it. January is almost here."

"Thank you, if I can i'll make it her New Years present."

He arrived at her door to see her on FaceTime with her younger siblings. He didn't want to interrupt, so he waited.

"We miss you Seren!"

"I miss you guys too. You should convince mom to let you visit."

" we tried, not even grandma will bring us because she's afraid of what mom or dad might do."

"Most likely take away my visitors privilege so only they can see me. FaceTiming is good enough, I miss you both so much and I wish I could be at home with you."

"Us too! Remember when we used to have baker nights and we'd pick a different dessert to make every Saturday."

"Of course! Brownies are still my favorite."

"Ours too! We'll try to send you some—we have to go, mom is calling us."

"You're times up, it's okay. Make sure to call me back soon. I love you guys!

"We love you too!"

King knocked on the door and entered after hearing a faint come in.

"Do you think i'll ever see them again?" He was taken by surprise by her statement but understood her.

"Of course you—" She cut him off.

"And not while i'm in heaven staring at them looking at my picture because they couldn't go to my funeral." At that moment he actually wanted to cry. He had to make her feel better.

"Hey. Stop thinking like that, they love you along with your big sister. Knowing her, she'll get them to you no matter what. And if it helps, i'm bringing a surprise tomorrow." She lifted her head up.

"Really?! Thank you...this is the first surprise i'll receive in months." Heart, stop it.

"I'm glad it was me then."

She smiled and they continued on with their conversation till King had to leave.

"Hey I know you struggle with sleeping so if you wanna talk here's my number. I have no sleep schedule so text whenever." She put the number in her phone and put hers in his.

"Thank you, good night!"

King walked out of her room on a mission. He had to learn to make brownies from scratch. For Serenity.
