Chapter 5

Lizzie: Mom if it's for roundabout I prefer to go to bed.

Caroline looks at her daughter for a few seconds, mutters a few words, then starts pacing again. Stefan amusedly watches his wife from his seat sipping a glass of alcohol mixed with animal blood.

Caroline: Josie is not really your sister.

Lizzie: WHAT !?

Caroline: We found him, then we adopted him.

Josie: Who is Alaric?

Caroline winced, a cold sweat running down her back.

She was definitely going to kill Klaus Mikaelson.

Caroline: He's ... your biological father.

Lizzie: WAIT, I'M ALSO ADOPTED !?

Caroline: No! It's complicated, okay?

Caroline begins to explain that Alaric and his fiancée, Jenna, were expecting a child, but Jenna was killed by her sociopathic little brother, the Gemini coven had cast a spell to protect their baby, this baby is Elisabeth Salvatore.

Caroline: And you were transported in me.

Lizzie: Alaric is dead?

Caroline: No. He's looking for fusion, it's a curse of your coven.

Lizzie: But ... couldn't he come by and see me every now and then?

The blonde was sobbing, she wonders if Alaric is current with his bipolar disorder and if that is why he did not come.

Josie watched the scene unfold in front of her, but a silent sneer diverted her attention, Stefan seemed to be watching this as if he was watching a TV show.

It was Josie's blood boiling, she tries to stay calm by turning away from the Salvatore.

Caroline: Alaric Saltzman is an alcoholic, I don't want an alcoholic near my children.

This is too much for Josie.

Josie: And a butcher who totally loses his mind every time he sees human blood, maybe better?

Caroline was silent.

Stefan threw his glass against a wall, and groaned through his teeth that he was going to bed.

Lizzie: We're going to bed too.

The blonde took the brunette's hand and led her to one of their bedroom. They settle down as usual in the bed.

Josie: You know, for me you're still my twin ... My other half ... My sister ... That doesn't change.

Lizzie: Is that right?

Josie: Yeah, you're my favorite sister.

Lizzie laughs lightly as she begins to sob again.

Lizzie: I love you.

Josie: I love you too.

The two twins fall into a peaceful sleep.

- - -

The two Salvatore sisters go out without a word, they had concluded to ignore both parents for at least a week.

Lizzie: I still don't understand why we agreed to see her.

Josie: Because she wasn't responsible for her father's actions, we're not going to ignore her for a few things that she didn't even do.

Hope had offered to see each other, despite what happened the day before.

Lizzie: Yeah ...

The twins enter the restaurant-bar, after a few seconds of searching, Josie sees Hope waving to them.

Hope: Hey! Josie.

Josie: Hey, Hope.

Hope: Lizzie.

Lizzie: Scooby 2.0

The three settle down and start chatting as if nothing had happened.

Hope: So you are witches? That's it ?

Lizzie: I am a siphon witch.

Hope: But that's great! I've never had a witch my age!

Lizzie: Yeah, let's calm down, I know a few spells, mostly water spells.

The blonde looks at her sister with a smirk, the brunette pretended not to understand the allusion.

Hope: Girls, I'm sorry about last night ...

Josie: It's not your fault Hope.

Lizzie: And then now we know our parents are liars.

Josie: Plus they refused to say anything about my family or how they adopted me.

Lizzie: Which is strange.

Josie: Totally.

Lizzie: If it finds you were stolen at birth! Like in this TV movie.

Josie: Oh I hope not ...

Hope Anyway, maybe we should team up to do some research, me and Lizzie could do some spells and you could do some research on the internet.

Lizzie: LIKE DETECTIVES !?

Hope: Uh ... yeah?

Josie's twin stands up, strikes a superhero pose.

Lizzie: Make way for Detective Sherlock Lizzie.

The other two girls laughed, Lizzie sat down in her chair.

Josie: Really, it's pretty cool.

Lizzie: Of what? Be adopted?

Josie: Especially not to be Stefan's child.

Lizzie: Oh! Yeah!

Hope: You don't seem to like him much ...

Lizzie: He's an asshole.

Josie: I don't like it.

After they finish their drinks, Hope offers to play table football together.

Josie: No, thanks for me, I'll recommend another drink.

Lizzie: Too bad for you sister.

Hope and Lizzie get up and walk to the other side of the room, where there is a foosball table.

From there, Josie couldn't see them anymore, she sighed with relief, she needed some time for herself.

Unfortunately, her joy was short-lived when Klaus Mikaelson sits across from her.

Klaus: We need to talk.

Josie: If you want ...

Josie's hands start to get clammy.

Klaus: I wanted to ... Excuse me, for yesterday I might have been ... A little brutal.

Josie: I'm not sure what to say to you, I mean part of me would have preferred to learn it in a different way. But I also know that if you wouldn't have said anything, I would never have understood ... Some things, not that everything is clear now because my parents refuse to answer my questions, but ... Wait why I tell you all that?

Klaus laughs lightly and pauses his hand amicably on Josie's shoulder.

Klaus: Distress, child.

Josie: Yeah, I'm a stressed person. A bit too much ! Well, it depends, I mean sometimes.

Klaus: So you said earlier that the adoption of you and your sister explain a lot of things ... That is to say?

Josie: You are very curious, sir. Are you from the police?

Klaus: No of course not, I'm in a curious mood.

The teenager couldn't believe a word of it, but decided not to act as if nothing had happened.

Josie: That already explains the fact, that technically two vampires can't have children.

Klaus: Unless it's a hybrid, werewolf and vampire, Hope has proof of that.

Josie: Yeah but they weren't.

Klaus: Go ahead, please.

Josie: Stefan didn't want a child, so like Lizzie was, transplanted? No, teleported is better. So, I was saying, as Lizzie was teleported into Mom's womb, he had no choice but to endure her.

Klaus: Stefan doesn't seem to care about you.

Josie: It does, and it's reciprocal. But there is something that bothers me, why did you adopt me knowing that Stefan already can't stand Lizzie? Oh ! Sorry I'm still rambling! I am a real word mill when I get down to it.

Klaus: Actually, now that you mention it there is something unclear in their story, I will investigate on my side.

Josie: Investigate? I never imagined it was this point when Hope said you were protective.

Klaus: I don't just do it for my daughter.

Klaus had to stop talking when a very angry Hope appeared.

Hope: Don't approach it anymore, you've done enough!

Nicklaus smiles at his daughter and gets up from the table, he whispers quickly to Josie.

Klaus: I really like your mother.

He left on his words.

Josie winced.
