Chapter Five - Collison Course
As Van Helsing setting in the Owl House, he took the opportunity to read up on the Boiling Isles. After hours of reading various books, Van Helsing became intrigued by the strange land. As Van Helsing read a book, Luz entered the room.
Van Helsing: What can I do for you, Miss Noceda?
Luz: I just...wanted to see how you were settling in?
Van Helsing: The transition has been....less than unconventional, but I'll manage. I must say, this world is fascinating.
Luz: I get that. When I first arrived, I couldn't believe it! It was like something out of a dream!
Van Helsing: And how did you end up in this world?
Luz: I just...stumbled on a portal and just...ended up here.
Van Helsing: Interesting.
Luz: Can I ask you something?
Van Helsing: Of course. What is it?
Luz: You...you said you hunted Vampires, right? I....I've read so many books and seen so many movies with and about Vampires. There's at least a hundred different versions of them! Seductive monsters, bloodthirsty predators, and even sparkly pretty boys. So...I wanted to ask what are they REALLY like?
As Luz asked Van Helsing this, he became quite curious about Luz's description about Vampires. Some of the descriptions Luz had given him didn't seem accurate to what he faced.
Van Helsing: Established that victims consciously detest being dominated by vampirism but are unable to relinquish the practice, similar to addiction to drugs. Ultimately, death results from loss of blood. But, unlike normal death, no peace manifests itself for they enter into the fearful state of the undead. As I said before, I dedicated my life's work to the study and destruction of these creatures.
Luz was taken aback by this. To hear that Vampires actually existed came as a total shock to her. It seemed impossible for such creatures to exist.
Luz: Whoa...Vampires actually exist....
Van Helsing: But the most dangerous Vampire of all was Count Dracula. Before I fell into that deep slumber. I fought Count Dracula in his castle. The last thing I remembered was ramming that stake into his black heart. I can only hope that I finally destroyed him for good.
As Van Helsing said this, he remembers his confrontation with Dracula in the heart of his castle.
Van Helsing(Past): This is your final hour, Count. This will not be a nightmare you will be waking up from! You have been judged and found wanting, Vampire King! You have nothing! You are nothing! Nothing!
As Van Helsing recounts that memory, he continues reading up on the Boiling Isles. Meanwhile back at the ancient castle, Renfield waited by Dracula's coffin. When night fell, Dracula rose from his coffin. As Dracula rose from the coffin, Renfield bowed before the Vampire. Dracula then exits the castle with Renfield following him.
Dracula: Servant. Tell me of this land.
Renfield: Yes, Master. The Boiling Isles, named after the raging hot water of the Boiling Sea, are composed of the bones of a fallen Titan. Throughout the ages, other monumental bones have been sighted in the Boiling Seas, raising the possibility that many such creatures stalked the in eons past. But, as yet, the Titan of the Boiling Isles remains the only complete skeleton known.
Dracula: And who rules this land?
Renfield: Before he ascended to the throne, Emperor Belos gained prominence as a crusader for unity during the Savage Ages. He believes that chaos comes from "wild magic" and seeks to bring peace by controlling such magic in his Coven System. He rules by fear and an iron fist, and his past remains largely unknown. Nevertheless, the Savage Ages caused such devastation that many people have proved willing to follow him.
As Renfield informed Dracula of the Boiling Isles, Dracula became interested in this land. Suddenly, Dracula felt something stir in his new castle. Meanwhile, Bria used her Construction Magic to break into gates leading to the Crypts. As Bria entered the Crypts, she searched for anything valuable.
Bria: Come on...there has to be something here!
As Bria opened one of the coffins, she found nothing but bones.
Bria: Nothing.
Suddenly, she heard the wind whooshing behind her. She turned around with her sword ready only to find that nothing was behind her.
Bria: Just my imagination....
When Bria turned around, Dracula was standing before her. Before she could react, Dracula grabbed her by the throat and lifted her.
Bria: Get....off of me!
Dracula glared at her with contempt in his eyes.
Bria: I don't know who you are, but I found this place first! I call first dibs on any treasure here!
Dracula said nothing as he continued glaring at her. He could see the blood rushing through her veins.
Bria: Fine. We'll split whatever we find here fifty-fifty. I say that's more than fair.
Dracula: How....pathetic. You're nothing more than a loathsome grave robber. A coward and an incompetent, incapable of doing anything on your own. You are not worthy of the lowest pits of Hell.
Bria: Don't give me that self righteous crap! You can have anything you want if you're strong enough to take it.
Dracula: On that, we can agree. You will do....
Dracula then gnashed his fangs. Realizing what was happening, Bria screamed at the top of her lungs. Dracula then sinks his teeth into Bria's neck and drinks her blood. When he was finished, he tossed Bria's body to the ground. Moments later, Bria rose from the ground as a mindless ghoul. With that, Dracula had begun laying the groundwork for creating his undead army.
