"YOU'VE TRAINED HARD. YOU'VE GOTTEN STRONGER, TOUGHER, FASTER. YOU'VE DONE YOUR BEST." Johnny says, looking down on his students who are all gathered in a junkyard from his spot on the top of an old broken down van, a beer in his hand. "You're ready for this tournament, am I right?"
"Yes, Sensei!"
"Wrong!" He throws the can of beer at their feet.
Daisy gasps as it sprays all over her shoes. With a huff, she looks up at the older man with a glare. "I hope he falls off."
"I can push him?" Juliet offered.
"We probably shouldn't."
"I'm not hearing a no."
"No."
"Damn it!"
"Your best ain't shit!" Johnny yelled, giving his students a stern look. "If you want to win the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament, you gotta give me better than your best. Which is why from now on, you're gonna get my worst. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Sensei!" They answered in sync.
"Are you losers?"
"No, Sensei!"
"Are you sure?"
"No Sensei!" Johnny face palmed at their answer.
"I think karate is making me dumber," Daisy whined, throwing her head back in annoyance. "I said it with no hesitation. It just made so much sense."
"Johnny? Why are we out here?" Juliet asked, cringing at the sun blaring in her eyes. "It's hot and my boobs are sweating!"
Everyone went quiet, turning to face the girl with wide eyes and flushed faces— Well except for Daisy. She placed her hand on her own chest, frowning at how hers are sweating too. That didn't help.
Miguel looked away as fast as possible at the glare Juliet was sending his way. Don't get him wrong, he really likes her, but she is scary.
Johnny shook his head, exasperated.
"Hey!" Everyone's attention snapped to him. "A lap for everyone who's eyes wandered. So that means all the boy's except for Miguel. Go!"
━━
"MOVE THOSE FEET. GO! GO! GO!" JOHNNY CLAPS HIS HANDS, ENCOURAGING his students to move fast through the tires he laid out on the ground. Aisha went first, but ended up tripping on the last tire and falling forward. This was followed by Miguel who fell on top of her, then Juliet, Daisy, and then Hawk. "Oh my goodness."
Daisy's eyes widened when she felt something hard poking her back. "That better be your phone in your pocket, Hawk! I swear to God!"
━━
"YOUR ENEMIES ARE ALL AROUND YOU. DESTROY THEM."
Johnny instructed, taking a step back after handing the Cobra Kai's a bunch of random junk that could be used as a weapon. He gestured to the junkyard, indicating them to go crazy and break what they want.
Juliet grabbed Daisy's hand and pulled them over to a random van. Everyone else seemed excited to break a bunch of shit, but the two girls were just tired and wondering what this has to do with karate.
With a huff, the McMaster girl lifted up her pipe and went to hit one of the windows. Though instead of breaking it, the pipe bounced back and came flying back towards her face. She screamed, ducking just in time before it could probably kill her. "That's embarrassing."
"No, I think this is bullet proof glass." Juliet said as she hit it herself— but kept a better grip on her weapon. When it didn't break she nodded. "Yup, bullet proof glass. Pretty sure this is my Dad's old car."
"Where is he anyways?" Daisy wondered. Brett Henderson is always a flaky one. The last time she heard her friend mention him was last Christmas— and that was a year and a half ago.
"I don't know. He could be dead in a ditch. But that's honestly just wishful thinking. Probably met some dead dying chick and is trying to see how he can weasel his way into her pension." Juliet shrugged, looking calm. But after a moment, she let out a yell, chucking her pipe across the way, barely missing Burt as it smashes though two car windows. "Sorry Burt!"
"...I will not bring that up again."
━━
"JOHNNY IF I FALL IN THE TRASH I WILL HIT YOU WITH MY TRUCK AND THEN BACK OVER YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE DEAD." Juliet threatened as she started to walk over the piece of wood Johnny laid across a trash bin that is filled with who knows what. She gags as the smell hits her before speeding up her steps and ending up on the other side.
Johnny just gave her a slightly terrified look before gesturing for Miguel (who was laughing at Juliet's words) to take his turn. "Go! Come on princess. Let's go. Move that ass!" Once Miguel is across, Hawk goes, almost falling but he catches himself. "Pinky! Let's move!"
Daisy peaked over the edge, gagging at the smell. When she signed up for karate she did not sign up for dumpster diving. That was not the plan! After taking a deep breath, she steps onto the board, closing her eyes and just running across fast, hoping for the best. She comes to a stop after running into a person, opening her eyes, she smiles at Johnny, starting to jump up and down in glee that she made it across. Except she didn't, she was just on the edge. Once she felt herself start to fall, she found herself grabbing onto Johnny in hope of steadying herself, but instead ends up pulling them both into the trash.
The whole class stares in silent shock.
━━
"YOU WANT TO WIN. YOU GOTTA BE HUNGRY." JOHNNY SAID, HANDING OUT PIECES OF BEEF JERKY TO EVERYONE. His hair and clothes were wet from when him and Daisy had to get sprayed down after falling in the trash. Once he got to said girl in line, he narrowed his eyes at her but didn't give her a piece of jerky, making her pout. She just didn't know that it was in her best interest— he thought falling in the trash was enough of a punishment for the girl, she doesn't need to add getting chased by guard dogs to the list. "Are you guys hungry?"
"Yes Sensei!" The class, minus Daisy, shouted, taking a bite of their beef jerky. Juliet gaged after tasting it, handing hers to Hawk.
"Good," He steps back, lifting a whistle up to his lips, "Cause so are they." Once he blew the whistle, it was silent. Everyone's eyes widen when they realize it was a dog whistle.
"Oh shit!" Aisha yelps as a bunch of dogs run around the corner, barking and snarling. With that everyone made a run for it, hoping to get on top of a car in time.
Juliet just pulled a scared Daisy into her arms as the dogs ran around the two, not interested.
"Don't be afraid!" Johnny shouts, amused. "They can smell fear."
"Hawk, watch out!" Just as Daisy says that, a dog bites Hawk in the butt, causing her to gasp.
"Could that be a lawsuit?" Johnny asked, cringing.
"It could be yeah."
━━
"YOU GOT THIS. THEY'LL LOVE YOU. YOU ARE A VERY... LOVEABLE PERSON." Daisy whispered to herself as she paces back and forth in front of the LaRusso's front door. Sam invited her over for lunch to meet her family, and to say she's stressed would be an understatement. Not only is she insanely nervous, she's also late because she had to shower once she got home from practise so she didn't show up smelling like trash— that would be a great first impression.
"Just knock on the fucking door!" Juliet shouted, honking the horn from where she was parked in the drive way.
"Juliet give her a moment," Miguel huffed, pushing her hand off the horn.
"I'm just giving her a push. She's late enough as it is."
"Can you guys shut— Oh, hello!" She cut off her yell by the sound of the door opening. The honk obviously catching their attention. She faced an older woman with white hair who was sending her a large smile.
"Don't just stand there! Come in!" She lead the younger girl into the house, closing the door behind her. "I'm Lucille. Sam's grandmother."
"It's— it's nice to meet you, I'm Daisy." Daisy introduced herself, hoping to sound more confident then she really is. "I'm so sorry I'm late. I was at—"
"Pottery Class!" Sam expressed, running over to the two quickly. "Her Pottery Class ran late. We should hurry outside. Lunch is almost ready!"
Daisy gave her girlfriend a confused look, but just decided to go along with it. "Yeah, I love poetry—"
"Pottery."
"Yeah, that."
Sam grabbed her hand, leading her outside to the patio and to the table where the rest of her family was. She introduced Daisy to her father Daniel (who she met briefly before at the dance), her Uncle Louie, and her younger brother Anthony.
"You know it's bad enough that monster is teaching kids." Daniel said as he flipped burgers with Louie beside him. "Now he's convinced the All Valley Board to let Cobra Kai in the tournament."
Daisy's eyes widened, her brain glitching for a moment. She looked to her right at Sam, who was sending her an 'I'm sorry' look. It was obvious that her family wasn't a fan of Cobra Kai. So, that explains why Sam says she was at a pottery class. She just doesn't know why.
"Oh, that's horrible." Lucille shook her head from her spot beside Sam and Anthony. "They can't let them back. Oh, they're nothing but a bunch of bullies."
"They can't all be bullies, right?" Sam asked hesitantly, linking her hand with her confused girlfriend.
"Trust me sweetheart, you don't know the half of it. Those Cobra jerks made my little boy's life miserable! Tell them how they pushed you down that hill."
"We have a vegan burger for you Daisy." Amanda LaRusso, Sam's mom, says as she takes a seat beside the girl. "Sam said you're not the biggest fan of meat."
"Thank you," Daisy smiled awkwardly. She is definitely surrounded.
Daniel sighed, "They've already heard it, Ma."
"I thought it was a cliff?" Anthony scoffed.
"You want pasta salad?" Amanda asks as she takes of the lid.
"Oh, no, thank you." Lucille declined, holding her hand up. "I-I-I don't like that pre-packed stuff from the store. It's..." She shudders.
"Oh, well I would have made some but I got home late from the dealership." Amanda explained, placing the pasta salad on the table. Daisy decided to scoop some onto her plate, feeling bad for the woman. She doesn't even like pasta salad, but she'll power through.
"Oh, no. It's okay. I get it. It's tough being a working mom, but at least you have a partner," Lucille gestured to her son. "Remember how I used to come home from work and then started cooking from scratch?"
"Yeah, Mom." Daniel sighs as he took a seat beside his wife, putting the plate of burgers on the table. "So, Daisy. Tell us about yourself."
The black haired girl's eyes widen slightly, not expecting to be addressed. At this moment she was hoping to go through the whole meal silently— but that's wishful thinking. "Um... I like pottery. Like, I really love pottery." She could hear Sam stifle a laugh beside her. "I live with my parents, um, only child. And that's about it." She cringed, "I seem to have forgotten almost everything about myself, sorry."
Daniel went to respond to the girl, but Louie cut him off. "You know, that son of a bitch has a lot of nerve entering the tournament. Especially after everything he's done to you. And you fixed his car for free!" Sam narrows her eyes at her uncle, annoyed that he completely ignored Daisy— but the girl honestly didn't seem to mind. "I don't know, man. I say we get the car back. You know, I could find out where he lives."
Daisy just sunk into her seat as they talked about Johnny Lawrence. Is she surprised the man was a bully in high school? Fuck no. He's an asshole. An improving asshole none the less. He's gotten nicer since Daisy started at Cobra Kai. And she doesn't really know Daniel and he seems kind of whiny, so she doesn't really care— Not that she would ever say that out loud. She makes a mental note to text Juliet later as a heads up in case Louie does try to do something.
"Dad, what if Cobra Kai has changed?" Sam asked again, hoping her dad will give her something. She didn't think that Cobra Kai would come up this much at lunch. Now she's just embarrassed as her family trash talks the dojo with one of the members sitting right there. "I mean, there's some kids from my school who are in it, and that doesn't automatically make them bad, right?"
"Please, Cobra Kai will never change," Daniel scoffed out a laugh. "Promise me you will stay away from the kids who are associated with it, all right?"
"I'll make sure she does. They sound like horrible people." Daisy said, faking horror. She had to do everything in her power not to burst out laughing. "Deranged. Violent. Crazy people."
Sam took a sip of her drink to hide her smile.
"You picked a good one, Sam."
━━
"THIS HAS BEEN SOMETHING?" DAISY GIGGLED, PULLING SAM INTO A HUG. It's a few hours later, and after a lot of arguing between family, Sam thought it was for the best if Daisy left. So after receiving a call from Juliet, who pretended to need something, the two were at the door. "Your family really hates Cobra Kai, huh?"
"I'm so sorry! I didn't think they would talk about it during the whole lunch." The brunette whined, tightening her arms around her girlfriend. "What was Juliet's excuse?"
"That Miguel and Hawk wouldn't stop farting and she needs me to bring over a can of air freshener since she's out." Daisy shrugged, pulling back a bit so she could peck Sam on the lips. "I don't think she was making that up so when she gets here we're probably gonna have to pick up a can."
"...Ew."
"Yeah. Also I can't hang out tomorrow, Hawk bought me concert tickets to see Yungblud as an apology. Well, according to Juliet."
"What does he have to apologize for?"
"I don't think he has to apologize more than once," Daisy huffed. "But he insists. He feels bad for his erection rubbing into my ass."
Sam blinked at her.
"It was during training. Also don't tell him I told you. All of the class knowing was embarrassing enough."
"What about an erection?" The two girls whipped around to face an amused Amanda who was leaning against the kitchen door.
"Mom!"
"I'm gonna go..."
