i. good morning starshine
( warning— use of slurs )
"GOOD MORNING STARSHINE, THE EARTH SAYS HELLO!" DAISY GREETED, SMILING HAPPILY at the brunette as she arrives at her locker, pulling out one of her headphones. It's their first day back at school for their second last year of high school, and Daisy is happy to finally be busy again. Being an only child with two parents who work all summer and no driver's license can get pretty lonely.
"Good morning back at ya! Did you just quote Willy Wonka?" Samantha LaRusso asked as she closed her locker and threw her bag over her shoulder.
"Oh my God... I did!" The Asian girl blinked a few time as she thought it over. "That wasn't intentional. I watched it last night like three times, once just wasn't enough I guess. Also I was to lazy to get up and get the controller so it just kept replaying. Anyways, enough about me, how was your summer LaRusso?"
The blue eyed girl was staring at her with a dreamy smile on her face, but once a pair of manicured fingers snapped in front of her face, she snapped out of it. "Oh, sorry, what did you say?"
"I asked how your summer was," Daisy laughed softly, pulling some tape out of her bag. She let out a content hum as she taped up a picture of her and her best friend, Juliet Henderson, that they took at Golf in Stuff over the summer.
"Oh it was okay. You know, kind of sad it's over but at the same time happy to be back in routine, you know?"
"Yeah, I know what you mean," Just as she said that, the bell rang signalling the beginning of first period. "What class do you have first? Maybe we have the same one?"
Sam's eyes lit up excitedly as she pulled her folded up time table out of her pocket. "I have economics. Ew, I have economics"
"Damn, I have English, "Daisy giggled at the girls reaction, leaning forward to pat her cheek lightly in comfort. "I'll see you around, LaRusso."
Sam watched the black haired girl walk away, her face heating up not only from her patting her cheek, but when her eyes took in the girls outfit. A tight light purple turtleneck tucked into a white flowy skirt with high heeled white boots and a yellow headband. Why was the girl so goddamn cute?
━━
"I PATTED HER CHEEK,"
DAISY HUFFED, SINKING INTO HER SEAT IN THE BACK OF THE CLASSROOM IN between her best friend and her quiet friend named Eli. "Why did I pat her cheek? Eli, why did I do that?" They both looked at her with amusement as she slammed her head lightly on the table with a groan, "I have regrets."
"Which cheek are we talking about?" Juliet asked, a teasing smile on her face.
Daisy sat up, turning to the girl with a tilt of her head, "Like right or left?"
"Well I meant ass or face but sure."
"Juliet!"
"Who are we talking about?" Eli asked quietly, but both girls immediately quieted down so that they could hear him. Juliet and Daisy sat at him and Demitri's table in the cafeteria in freshman year— they didn't talk to each other for like a week, neither pair would talk to each other, it was really awkward. But eventually the silence drove a shy fourteen year old Daisy to break out of her shell and start a conversation. That was Juliet's plan, since she usually always does the talking and she wanted her best friend to open up more, and it worked. It's taken the Moskowitz boy a while to get comfortable around the two girls, and now he can talk to them without fear of being judged.
"Sam LaRusso," Daisy answered, cringing as she thought back to her actions. She thinks that Sam thinks she's weird— she always thinks that people believe she's weird. Yet, people actually enjoy her company, loving how cool, calm, and confident the girl came off as. However, that is not how Daisy sees herself.
"I don't get why your so worried, that girl has been giving you heart eyes since that time in freshman year you kept quoting the Bee Movie script."
"Why would you bring that up!" Daisy blushed as she remembered that as Eli let's out a snort.
"Cause it was the most adorable thing I have ever seen," Juliet smiled innocently. "Eli, you should have seen it, she went up to her locker on the first fucking day, turned to Sam and said 'You like jazz?'"
The two both laughed as Daisy sat between them with an unamused face. In freshman year, whenever she got really nervous she would just quote something from the most recent movie she watched. She still does it, but she doesn't really find it embarrassing anymore, she kind of made it her thing. Her classmates just expect it from her now.
"Ha ha ha, soooo funny."
━━
"I'M SURPRISED YOUR BROTHER ACTUALLY LET YOU BORROW HIS TRUCK," DAISY SAID AS HER AND JULIET DROVE BACK INTO SCHOOL PARKING LOT HALF WAY THROUGH LUNCH. Juliet just got her drivers license over the summer and started working two jobs so she could buy herself a car. Now, Daisy, even though she is sixteen, is nervous to start driving. She can barley walk to school without almost dying, imagine her behind a wheel? Not the best idea.
"Borrowed, stole, same thing you know?" Juliet shrugged, a small smile on her face as she parked and grabbed the McDonalds bag.
"I hate getting out of this stupid thing," Daisy huffed, pulling open the car door and jumping out, trying her best to stick the landing. She didn't. She landed on her hands and knees, "Crap!"
"You didn't face plant this time. So I see this as an improvement."
"Hey, Daisy, that's a great position for you!" Kyler shouted hopping out of his jeep, his minions laughing as they followed him.
"Fuck you, Kyler! Fucking useless ass ball-sack!" Juliet glared at the group of boys, helping her embarrassed friend up.
"Calm down, Henderson, just joking! Wouldn't mind seeing you two dykes get it on though, if I'm being completely honest."
Without a second thought, Juliet opened the back door of the truck, grabbing her brothers baseball bat. With the weapon in her hand, she starts to run at them, causing the boys to run away in fear. Juliet came to a stop, smiling happily to herself as she went to put the bat away.
"That was fun," Daisy huffed, pouting at her cut hands.
"Come on," The blond sighed, wrapping an arm around the shorter girls shoulders with the McDonalds bag in her other hand. "Demetri or Eli probably have some bandaids. They seem like the types to carry medical kits everywhere."
Once the duo arrived in the cafeteria they be-lined towards the nerd table, taking the last two open seats on the other side of Demetri. "Who's sitting there?" Juliet asked, pushing a piece of hair that fell in her face behind her ear as she gestured to the chair with the back pack hanging off the back.
"New kid, Miguel." Demetri said, nodding in the direction of the 'popular' table. The two girls followed his line of sight, watching as a tall, tan boy with black hair was slowly approaching it. "I don't think he's that smart."
"Ooo, dinner and a show!" Juliet cheered, opening up the take out bag and grabbing her cheese burger before pushing the bag in the middle for Eli and Demetri to help themselves.
Daisy made eye contact with Sam, sending her a grin and a wave. Though her smile fell when Kyler sat down beside the girl, throwing an arm around her shoulders. She wasn't upset about the display of affection per say, more so just seeing Kyler's stupid face for the second time in fifteen minutes. With a roll of her eyes, she turned around to grab her food, missing how the LaRusso girl pushed Kyler away from her.
"See you later, Rhea!" Brucks shouted, laughing as Miguel quickly made his way back to the table.
"So how'd it go?" Demetri asked mockingly.
Miguel looked up to glare at him, but froze when he saw the two pretty girls who now sat at their table. The girl that caught his attention was the blond one who was smiling at him, showing off her big front teeth that he found absolutely adorable. All thoughts of the brunette he tried approaching leaving his head immediately.
"I'm Juliet, and this is Daisy," She waved at him, raising her eyebrow as the boy stared at her unblinkingly with a dropped jaw. "Is he okay?"
"Uh," He blinked himself out of his trance, "I'm Miguel."
"Nice to meet you, Miguel. That was a really stupid idea." She said, referring to his earlier actions with a laugh.
"Yeah, I know."
"Why'd they call you Rhea?" Daisy asked curiously.
"Oh, I was buying pepto for my grandma and they dumped it on my head and assumed I had diarrhea." He explained, though immediately wished he didn't go into so much detail. He didn't like the word diarrhea coming out of his mouth when talking to cute girls.
"Did you have diarrhea?"
"Demetri! What is wrong you?"
━━
DAISY HUMMED TO HERSELF AS SHE CLOSED HER LOCKER, SWAYING TO THE BEAT OF THE SONG THAT'S BLASTING THROUGH HER HEADPHONES. The music was so loud that she didn't hear someone approach her, so when she felt a hand rest on her shoulder, she jumped in surprise. Whipping around, she came face to face with a startled Sam. The girl was saying something, but Daisy held up her hand, telling the girl to wait as she took out her headphones. "What did you say? Sorry."
"Oh! Um..." Sam trailed off, looking nervous. "I was just saying that me and Kyler aren't a thing. He thinks we are but we're not."
"...Okay?"
"Yeah. He's not exactly my type."
Daisy smiled at the girl, raising an eyebrow in question, "What's your type then."
"More into girls. You know?" Sam smiled at the black haired girl, slowly starting to walk away, "I'll see you tomorrow, Daisy!"
Daisy watched the girl walk away, her eyes wide and jaw dropped. She was not expecting that. She honestly thought Sam was the most heterosexual person ever, guess her gaydar didn't work this time around. Juliet would probably tell her that was Sam making a move, but Daisy sees it more as the girl making it clear that she's not dating Kyler. Imagine dating Kyler? That would be a embarrassing.
"I think she was flirting with you."
"Jesus Christ! Miguel!"
