Chapter 2
Author's POV
Now, let me introduce you to another family that's just moved in—the Khannas. Here's a glimpse into their family:
The Khanna Family
Vidhi Khanna: A mom of two handsome boys and the HR Head at one of the biggest firms in town. She's the epitome of perfection—balancing her demanding career with a loving and nurturing personality that makes her a wonderful mother and wife.
Gaurav Khanna: The father and CFO of a major company. Along with his corporate job, Gaurav runs a business on the side. Known for his sharp financial skills, he also makes sure to prioritize his family above all. A true role model.
Vihaan Khanna: He's hot. He knows it. Vihaan loves to dance and travel, and every girl's dream boy, he often graces the stage, showcasing his passion for dance. His love for adventure and travel keeps him constantly on the move, always the life of any journey.
Rohan Khanna: Rohan is just like his big brother—handsome, sharp, and brilliant. He shares not only the same looks but also the intellect that defines the Khanna family.
The Day They Moved In
As the moving truck pulled up to their new home, Rohan, still adjusting to the idea of moving, spoke up.
"Mom... I still don't understand why we had to move. I was happy where we were," he said, a hint of sadness in his voice.
Vihaan, ever the playful older brother, chimed in, "Oh, c'mon, don't be such a baby."
Rohan, frowning, shot back, "Shut up, bhaiya. I'm not a baby."
Vihaan teased him further, "Oh really? No matter how old you get or how many girlfriends you have, you'll always be my little baby."
Amidst their banter, Vihaan noticed a girl standing in the window of the house across the street, completely engrossed in her phone. He studied her for a moment as she remained oblivious to their presence. Rohan, also noticing the girl, commented, "Oh, she's nice, good-looking."
Vihaan, with a hint of amusement, replied, "Yeah, sure... They're our neighbors."
Just as they were talking, their mom called from inside. "Vihaan, Rohan, let's get inside. We still have a lot of unpacking to do!"
Vihaan stole one last glance at the window, but by the time he turned back, the girl had disappeared, leaving only a fleeting impression on his mind.
Inside the House
Once inside, Rohan, still distracted, remarked, "Wow, this place is huge!"
Vihaan nodded in agreement, "I know, right? You two go upstairs and figure out who gets which room. No fussing later, okay?" Their dad's voice was firm, signaling the end of the conversation.
Rohan and Vihaan exchanged looks before hurrying upstairs.
"I'm taking this room," Rohan declared confidently.
"No way, that room has no view," Vihaan argued, crossing his arms.
The two brothers laughed, with Rohan teasing, "Well, I was here first."
Vihaan, clearly irritated, stormed off to another room, muttering, "Okay, fine. I'll deal with this." He glanced around the room before heading straight for the balcony.
From there, he saw the same window again—the one he'd been staring at earlier.
Rohan, who had followed him, teased, "Oh, so the view isn't so bad after all."
Vihaan chuckled, "Yeah, maybe... But you know I'm not interested."
Five Days Later
The Khanna family had almost settled in as the long weekend came to an end. It was a fresh start, and just as they were beginning to feel at home, the doorbell rang.
"Rohan, get the door," Mrs. Khanna called.
Rohan opened the door to find Ishani standing there, a bright smile on her face.
"Hey," she greeted.
"Hey," Rohan replied, looking slightly confused.
"Um, I'm your neighbor... I live across the street," Ishani explained, pointing to her house.
Rohan raised an eyebrow, still unsure, "Okay, so?"
Ishani, feeling a little frustrated by his lack of enthusiasm, glanced around.
"Who's at the door, Rohan?" Mrs. Khanna called out from inside.
"Uh, just a girl from the neighborhood," Rohan said casually.
"Ishani... My name is Ishani Rao," she introduced herself, offering a friendly smile.
Just then, Mrs. Rao arrived, and Mrs. Khanna greeted her warmly. "Hello," she said.
"Hello, I'm Suhani Rao. We live right across from you. We're your neighbors," Mrs. Rao replied kindly.
"Oh, Mrs. Rao, I'm Vidhi Khanna. Nice to meet you. Please, come inside. Ishani, please join us," Mrs. Khanna invited them in.
"Rohan, get some water. Have you forgotten your manners?" Mrs. Khanna gently scolded her son.
"Alright, Mom," Rohan replied with a sigh, heading toward the kitchen.
He shot a glance at Ishani, who was smirking at him. "What's so funny?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Ishani just smiled and shrugged, clearly enjoying his discomfort.
"Rohan, that's enough," Mrs. Khanna warned.
Rohan, still irritated, glanced at Ishani but didn't say anything further.
Mrs. Rao smiled at Mrs. Khanna and said, "We'd love to have you over for dinner tomorrow night. It would be wonderful to get to know each other better."
"Oh, we'd love to," Mrs. Khanna replied, happy to accept the invitation.
After some pleasant conversation, Mrs. Rao stood up to leave. "Okay, Mrs. Khanna, we should be going now. Let's go, Ishani."
"Goodbye, Aunty. It was really nice talking to you. Your home is lovely. Please do come to ours tomorrow for dinner," Ishani said politely.
"We will, Ishani," Mrs. Khanna promised with a warm smile.
Later That Evening
As the Khanna family gathered together, Vihaan asked, "Who were those people, Mom?"
"They're our neighbors, the Raos. They invited us for dinner tomorrow," Mrs. Khanna explained. "They seem like nice people."
Rohan, still looking confused, asked, "Aunty was nice... But the girl... What was her name?"
"Ishani," Mrs. Khanna reminded him.
"Ishani... She's weird," Rohan said, rolling his eyes.
"Rohan, don't be rude," his mom scolded.
"But why, Mom? They're not even here," Rohan argued, irritated.
"She's a sweet girl," Mrs. Khanna insisted.
"No way, Mom," Rohan replied, storming off to his room.
Vihaan sighed and turned to his mom. "I'll take care of him."
Vihaan went up to Rohan's room. "Hey, Rohan, come here."
"What now?" Rohan muttered, clearly annoyed.
"We're going to the same house for dinner tomorrow, right? The one where we saw that girl," Vihaan said, pointing toward the window.
"Yeah, yeah... we are," Rohan mumbled.
"Okay, don't be so mad at Ishani. We'll meet her tomorrow," Vihaan reassured him.
Rohan didn't respond, but Vihaan could tell his younger brother was still irritated.
"Don't worry. We'll see her tomorrow," Vihaan added.
Rohan mumbled something under his breath and left the room, while Vihaan stepped out onto the balcony.
Vihaan's Thoughts
Finally, tomorrow... he thought, gazing out the window. "Who is she? Why is she always on her phone or laptop?" Vihaan wondered. "I've been watching her for five days, and not once has she even looked at me."
His curiosity grew as he stared at her window, contemplating what tomorrow's dinner would bring—and whether he would get a chance to learn more about the mysterious girl next door.
