Chapter 5 - Bad things happen in the dark

Again, the night time announcement. Everyone, minus Akira, was still at least a little bit shaken by the Motive Video. Would someone actually murder because of it? Well...

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Ash wandered into the video room, though, the lights weren't on and she couldn't see where she actually was.

"Hm, I wonder what this place is." She thought.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Jay locked their door and immediately fell asleep.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Sancia woke up, stifling a yawn. Her eyelids were heavy but she quickly forced herself up from the chair she had been slumped in as she caught sight of the silver moonlight trickling in. Sancia stumbled back as the events of the previous day poured into her mind, almost as if someone had hit her. She grappled at the knife in her pocket, finding unfortunate comfort in it's presence. Sancia knew she wouldn't sleep. Not after she'd done so for the majority of the day. She then slipped out of the room and into the hallway. Sancia stumbled through the almost silent halls, surprising herself when she didn't find fear in the loud clomp her every step made. She stiffened when she caught sight of Ray. She wasn't really sure what to think of him. He seemed dangerous but at the same time, she didn't. Sancia attempted to stay in the shadows, watching as Kirari disappeared around the corner.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Kirari went back to her dorm. She shut the door and locked it. She didn't plan on taking chances, the others now had a reason to kill. Then she remembered. Ash! Kirari hadn't talked to her much that day and she must be upset after the video. Kirari unlocked the door and stepped out of her room to find Ash. But first, she need protection. Time to go to the kitchen! Kirari crept in quietly. When she turned to the knives she was shocked to see that over half of them were already gone. This was bad! Whatever... Kirari grabbed a knife, slipped it into her pocket and left, off to find Ash.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Ray snooped through the halls, trying to find any dead bodies. Ray saw Kirari and decided it wasn't wise to engage. He decided to follow her in hopes of seeing something suspicious. Kirari suddenly stopped. She leaned against the wall, letting out a sigh. Ray raised an eyebrow, watching intently.

"Maybe I should just talk to her tomorrow... She would be freaked out if I came up to her in the dark in the dark..." Kirari muttered.

"Who?" Ray asked, revealing himself, totally not menacingly.

Kirari jumped and let out a squeak,"AH- Oh, I was just talking about Ash. I wanted to see if she was okay after watching the video, I will continue screaming now.'

"Aight, tell me when you're done screaming so I can do my evil monologue before I murder you." Ray joked.

"You shouldn't joke about that!" Kirari lectured him.

"Who said I'm joking?" Ray asked, amusement clearly I'm his eyes.

She narrowed her eyes,"Well, I'M serious!"

"Fine, fine. You're no fun. Anywho, on a serious note, have you seen anyone missing or any dead bodies?" Ray asked.

"Hey! I'm plenty fun! And no, I have not seen any dead bodies, and I don't believe anyone is missing." Kirari replied.

"Aight, tell me if you notice anything suspicious, other than me!" Ray chuckled.

"Well then, I hope you don't mind if I follow you. It seems you plan on watching the halls for a while and I feel safer knowing where you are." She asked.

"Reasonable." Ray agreed before starting to venture around again.

Kirari followed him, eyes flicking back and forth, keeping track of everything.

"Hey, would you consider yourself my friend?" Kirari asked him,"I'm asking to see if I should make you some jewellery."

"Yeah! You seem nice and being your friend would be an honour!" Ray grinned, scanning the halls.

Kirari looked back, deciding she was hearing things before turning back to Ray,"So, what kind of jewellery do you like?"

"Me? Personally, I like necklaces and earrings." Ray pointed to the cross hanging from his ear.

"Ray!" Akira ran up behind him.

Without turning around, he sighed,"Akira, it's the middle of the night. What the heck do you want?"

"I found a body in the kitchen." She shrugged, quickly adding,"Not dead, unconscious."

"Oh, shit! If Monokuma funds them sleeping, they're fucked." Ray realised, taking off in a full sprint towards the kitchen.

"He told me it was okay if they didn't intend to sleep." Akira chased after him.

"Je me fiche de ce qu'il a dit, c'est un psychopathe." Ray said, rushing into the kitchen.

Stevie was on the ground, face first.

Ray hissed,"Akira... Who the hell did this?!"

"Hell if I know." She shrugged,"I just found her like that."

"Scatter and look for clues." Ray ordered, looking around.

"Okay!" Akira began to look around.

Ray looked around as closely as possible yet found nothing. That's when Stevie began to stir, clutching her head.

"Stevie! Are you okay?" Ray asked, rushing over.

"I'm fine." She sat up, rubbing her head,"My head hurts like hell, though."

"What happened to you?" Ray questioned.

"Well, I was here and... Someone hit me." She shook her head,"I can't remember who.."

"Crap. Akira, can you take Stevie to her room? Kirari, help me search around, please." Ray turned to them both.

"Got it." Akira helped her up.

The kitchen door burst in and Sancia stumbled into the kitchen.

"What the heck happened?!" She stared at the people crowding the room, noting that Stevie looked very out-of-sorts.

"Stevie got whacked." Akira told her.

"You didn't need to phrase it like that." Stevie shook her head.

"Ah, the stalker reveals themselves." Ray chuckled.

Sancia gave an irritated scoff before composing herself, asking Stevie directly,"Are you okay?"

"I will be." Stevie assured her,"But... You should look for Mew."

"Mew? Why?" Ray asked.

Stevie sighed,"She was in here... Before it happened."

"Isn't that kid always with Mew? What's their name..." Ray brainstormed.

"Couldn't tell ya, now let's get moving." Akira began to leave.

"Crystal and Scott! They were with her when we met them! Scott is too foolish to know or do anything but Crystal might know what happened!" Ray exclaimed.

"Well go find them, I have my job to do." Akira then left with Stevie as Terishi jogged in, hair tied back.

"What's all the noise about?" She looked around.

"Someone possibly killed Mew and knocked out Stevie so we're looking for Crystal in hopes of evidence." Ray explained.

"Damn, someone actually fell for that motive shit." Terishi muttered, shaking her head,"Come on, let's go."

"Alright." Ray said before pausing,"Where is her room anyway?"

Sancia chased after the two and spoke doubtfully,"If Mew's dead, I doubt they'll be in her room.."

"The rooms have nameplates, well, picture plates, if you haven't noticed." Terishi pointed out.

"Splitting up sounds good to search, but if there's a killer around we should probably go in groups of two." Kirari nodded.

"Well, two of us could search for Crystal and the other two could search for Mew." Terishi suggested.

"Good plan." Kirari agreed.

"Ray, you and I will look for Crystal. Kirari, you and Sancia can look for Mew." Terishi instructed before quickly adding,"If that's okay with you three."

"Alright, let's go Sancia! How about we check the bathrooms? They're small and won't take long to search." Kirari suggested.

Kirari then headed towards the bathroom, hoping Sancia was following her.

"Mew? Are you in here?" Terishi called out.

She looked around but couldn't see much in the dark. Suddenly she had a thought. If Mew was last seen with Crystal... What if Crystal killed Mew?! It wasn't concrete but when someone was possibly dead, she couldn't take chances. Kirari went to rush out but she stopped herself.

"It's fine... They're with Ray, he's smart." She thought.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

"I'm down with whatever as long as I can murder the person who killed Mew." Ray stated.

"We don't know if they're dead yet." Terishi pointed as they walked to Crystal's room.

"One can assume." Ray sighed, following her.

"You know what people say about assuming? It makes an ass out of you and me." Terishi shook her head.

"How does one because an ass if they already are one?" Ray shot back, insulting himself and Terishi intentionally.

"You just become a bigger one." Terishi rolled her eyes, knocking on the door.

Soon enough, Crystal opened the door. Her hair was messy and she was wearing a baggy shirt.

"Hey, Crystal! It's been a bit, how are you?" Ray asked.

"Tired.." Crystal yawned.

"We know what you did." Ray said in a much more hostile voice, seeing if it fazed her.

"What are you talking about?" She questioned.

"Mew. We can call Monokuma right now, say you were found and get you executed. You're caught, just give up." Ray hissed, feeling a tad bit of worry that his suspicion was wrong.

"Ray. Play nice." Terishi nudged him.

"No, I don't think I will fille masquée." Ray hissed, trying to give her the signal to play along,"Fess up now or I will kill you more brutally than Monokuma ever could!"

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Crystal pointed.

"Didn't ask. I asked for a confession, not some BS 'I don't know' statement. Anyway, do you know where Mew was when you were with her last." Ray asked.

"Last I saw her, she was with me, Scott and Jeff around lunch." Crystal crossed her arms,"After that, I left and was practicing in my dorm."

"Teri, I tried. You can be good cop now." He sighed.

"Right, where were you all?" Terishi asked.

"The gymnasium." Crystal answered.

Ray started taking notes.

"Did Scott or Jeff seem off?" Terishi raised a brow.

"Well... Scott wasn't really doing much, which is odd. I thought it was just because of the video.." Crystal shrugged.

"Scott's a dumbass. He probably does nothing in his free time." Ray sighed.

"Well, do you have any idea where any of them are right now?" Terishi asked.

"Well, I think Jeff is in the library." She told them.

"Jeff is many things but a murderer ain't one of them. That leaves you, Crystal." Ray growled.

"Woah, woah, woah! Save your assumptions for the class trial." Monokuma told him,"Besides, you need to find the body first."

"I'm surprised you know what an assumption is, Teddy McBitch!" Ray spat, storming down the hall.

Terishi was quiet as she followed,"I guess that's confirmation, huh?"

"Almost. I'm pretty confident that most people will know it's her. Scott probably wouldn't and Jeff would only do it to save their own ass." Rya growled.

"I meant that Mew was dead." Terishi mumbled.

"Oh, yeah." Ray sighed, squinting and seeing the other two,"Kirari! Cia! Have you guys found the body? Monokuma confirmed that she was dead."

"Not yet... Well, I can't see very well in here." Kirari explained,"Do you have a flashlight?"

"I have a match." Ray said.

That's when a small flame flickered on. A lighter. Akira.

"HOLY F- Darn it, Akira. You almost made me curse!" She pointed.

"Do it. Pussy." Akira whispered.

Ray chuckled at the two of them.

"Alright... Bitch." Kirari spoke reluctantly.

"Yay!" Akira smiled,"Now let's go find a body."

"Joy.." Kirari sighed.

"How hard could it be?" Akira lead the way, holding her lighter above her head.

"What the fuck just happened?" Ray blinked.

"What do you mean?" Kirari asked.

"The cursing thing." Ray pointed.

"Um, peer pressure happened. I've experienced it a lot, nothing new." Kirari shrugged.

"Ah!" Akira suddenly dropped her lighter, holding her finger,"That hurt.."

"You okay?" Kirari raised a brow.

"Just burned myself again." Akira shook her head, bending down to pick it up but... She froze.

Ray raised his eyebrow.

"What? DID YOU FIND THE BODY!?" Kirari questioned.

Akira slowly flicked on her lighter and... There they were. Mew Kamakiri, the Ultimate Mantis Conservationist was dead...

"I was expecting it but still..." Kirari's eyes filled with tears and she choked back a sob.

"I fucking called it." Ray laughed.

"A body has been discovered!" Monokuma announced before passing out files,"Here you go!"

Kirari grimaced as she took her file.

"Let's get this over with." Terishi pulled down her mask and bent down beside the body.

Kirari began to look around the area for any clues.

"Blunt force trauma, she was hit in the back of the head." Terishi sighed.

"So... Like Stevie?" Akira raised a brow.

"Crystal is kinda loud so she probably isn't too careful. If she did it, there must be some clues." Kirari thought as she checked under the sink,"Wait! Stevie, did it feel like you were hit with someone's fist or something else?"

"I don't know, it just hurt." She rubbed the back of her head.

"Is there any way to tell?" Kirari asked.

"We heard the announcement, is it-" Daiko rushed in with the others, freezing when he saw the body.

"Yup." Kirari said sadly.

Daiko looked around at them all slowly as Scott turned away, covering his face. Kirari looked at the body, scowled and began to examine the back of her head.

"I suggest we go around looking for alibis." Jeff spoke up.

"That's a good idea, Jeff." Kirari agreed.

"You're welcome." They nodded.

"Who are you going to ask first?" Kirari asked.

"Well, let's check the file first to see the time of death." Jeff began to look over it.

Kirari waited for Jeff to find what they were looking for.

"It says here that the time of death was approximately between 8:30 and 9 pm." Jeff looked up.

"I'm just saying, this probably hasn't crossed any of your minds but this could entirely be my kill." Ray shrugged.

"Or mine." Akira hummed.

"It's hilarious how the most sadistic and the one who is a master of burning things both have no alibi." Ray grinned.

"I have reason to believe it isn't you, Ray as we were together around that time." Kirari then turned to Akira,"Where were you, Akira?"

"Around." She shrugged.

Kirari sighed,"Someone got killed, Akira. 'Around' is not a good alibi."

"She was with me." Stevie spoke up,"Watching you fuck with her is starting to irritate me."

"To be fair, Akira was searching the halls because I asked her to so she does sort of have an alibi. Any objections?" Ray asked, amusement glittering in his eyes as he watched the chaos.

Kirari went to speak but Ray spoke first.

"And may I remind you, I could've killed her and ran." He shrugged, putting the idea in their minds.

"Very true." Kirari nodded, tired.

"Welcome back to square one." Stevie leaned against the wall, knocking something over.

Kirari turned her head towards the noise.

"Whoops." Stevie picked up what she knocked over, she couldn't really tell what it was but there was a bloodstain on it!

"Great job, Stevie! We found some evidence!" Kirari cheered.

"Murder weapon?" Ray wondered.

"I'm a genius." She handed it to Kirari.

"No, you're under average, Stevie." Ray commented.

"Aw." She crossed her arms.

Kirari took the object, looking over it.

"Hm, I don't really know much about this object. What about you? It looks kinda like a hammer." Kirari said, passing it to Ray.

"Looks like a marteau de guerre, mon ami." Ray said, his French accent kicking in as he spoke.

"Well, that's good. Now we know what it is." Kirari smiled.

"She got bonked." Akira nodded.

"Heh, that would be a funny tombstone. 'Bonked to death'" Kirari chuckled.

"Alors... Assassiné par un marteau de guerre? Pitoyable." Ray sighed, shaking his head.

"Ray, be quiet." Stevie glared at him.

"You shouldn't speak bad of the dead." Kirari told him.

"Pouvons-nous s'il Vous plaît tuer Crystal maintenant? C'est tellement évident qu'elle l'a fait." Ray asked.

"No!" Monokuma shouted,"You need to prove it in a class trial!"

"And what other obvious things do I have to prove? That you're the kind of guy to see a hairy rat with fungi on it on the ground and ask 'is anyone gonna eat that?' and not wait for an answer?" Ray snapped.

"Ugh, just go to the red door. That's where the trial grounds are located." Monokuma crossed his arms.
