Chapter 85: The Great Wind 5-26-17

Aragorn: 19 years old

Elladan turned to his brother and lifted him by his shirt. Aragorn made no attempt to get away. He didn't want to hurt his brother, but he thought he should use self-defense.

"Elladan! Put your brother down this instant!" Elrond shouted.

The Elf turned to Elrond and threw Aragorn into the chair. He had not been expecting it and fell into the chair making the whole thing tip backwards. Aragorn went along with the chair and did a roll back flip until he was sitting on his knees.

The door opened and Elrohir and Lagorion stepped in fast. They both gasped at the situation. Elrond flung himself at Elladan and they wrestled over the ring. Aragorn, Elrohir, and Lagorion watched in awe at Elladan's refusal to give up the Vilya.

Finally, Elrond slipped the ring off his son and as Vilya made contact with his finger, the ring did what anyone would expect the ring of air to do. It made a massive whirl of wind gush from Elrond's finger. Everybody screamed.

Elladan flung backwards and crashed into a mirror behind him. It shattered on top of him as the wind gushed him back. Elrohir and Lagorion flew back as well. Elrohir slammed against the door and Lagorion smashed Elrohir in-between himself and the door.

Aragorn grabbed the chair that had fallen over, but it came along with him as the gush of wind flung him back against the far wall. The chair flew next to him and crashed into the wall barely missing his right arm.

The powerfulness of the ring sucked up all the oxygen in Aragorn's lungs, creating him to chock on the air. A second later, Elrond took control of Vilya and stopped the gush of wind coming from it. He had never used it before and he hoped he never had to again. Every time is used it, Sauron could be aware if he were looking into Rivendell at that time. Elrond prayed that wasn't the case this time. He looked around the room at all his sons and Lagorion.

He glared at Elladan as he looked around the room horrified.

"What happened?" the Elf asked looking straight at his angry father.

Elrond broke his gaze from Elladan and looked to Aragorn. To his terror, he saw him on the ground face down. Everybody looked that way as Elrond ran to his fallen child. He turned him over and looked at his face.

"The wind took the air from him. He will be okay," Elrond said reassuringly to Elrohir and Lagorion who had joined his side as well.

Elladan had stayed back to watch. He didn't understand what was going on, but it seemed like everybody was mad at him.

Elrond drew his hand over Aragorn's face and said a couple Elvish healing words. Almost instantly, Aragorn opened his eyes, and he started gasping for breath. He coughed as Elrond sat him back up against the wall. As Aragorn looked around, he met eyes with everybody staring at him.

He stayed quiet as he looked around at Elrond, Elrohir, and Lagorion. He had not seen Elladan yet since he was behind everybody looking ashamed.

"You okay?" Elrohir asked looking down to his little brother.

Aragorn nodded. Elrond helped him stand and right as he made eye contact with Elladan, he froze. Elladan and the others did as well waiting to see what Elladan's response to the whole thing would be. He stepped forward and Aragorn stood still holding his ground nervously.

"Estel?" Elladan murmured.

Aragorn didn't respond and looked to Elrond for back up.

"Elladan, you better have a good explanation for all of this nonsense," Elrond asked.

Elladan broke the stare he had on Aragorn and looked to his outraged father. He explained,

"I am sorry. I found the ring on your bed, and picked it up. I was going to give it back to you, but I stepped one foot and my whole body tingled. I looked down to your ring in my palm and it was glowing blue in color. There was this crazy voice in my head that kept ushering me to put Vilya onto my finger,"

Elrond interrupted and said,

"And you did?"

Elladan nodded and looked down knowing the story sounding so ridiculous, but it was the truth. He continued,

"I felt fine after I put it on, but I had forgotten all about having it. It was almost like Vilya erased my memory. Estel and the others wanted to play the game we normally do in the forest, so we went. Everything was normal, but once night hit, something inside of me triggered on,"

"That's when you saw Estel, wasn't it?" Elrohir said.

"Yes, once I knew Estel won again, I had this evil hate inside of me. I-I..." Elladan trailed off and closed his eyes.

"You almost killed me," that came from Aragorn.

Elladan looked down to him looking so upset at himself and hurt for his younger brother. The Elf reached his hand out and put it on Aragorn's shoulder. He flinched and took a step back instinctively. The others saw the reaction too.

"Estel, I am me again. Don't worry," Elladan said looking hurt by the human's reaction to his touch.

"Sorry, I was just..." Aragorn shook his head.

"Just what?" Elladan pushed.

Elrond looked to Elrohir and Lagorion and shooed them out of the building. Elrohir fought back wanting to see the action, but Elrond gave him the look that said he better listen. They left and Elrond went back to his other two sons. Aragorn was still looking to the ground silently, and Elladan was looking to his younger brother gently waiting for an answer.

"Estel, tell me," Elladan said.

Aragorn finally looked up as a tear rolled down his face. He said,

"I was just so scared that I had lost you. You weren't the same Elf that..." he choked on a sob and stopped talking.

"Oh, Estel,"

Elladan stepped forward and gave Aragorn a calm and gentle hug. Aragorn wrapped his arms around his older and wiser brother and let his face collapse into his chest.

"I am so sorry, Estel. This was all my fault. I love you so much, and you know it," Elladan whispered in his ear, "Ever since you have come to Rivendell, I have loved you. And I always will,"

They broke the hug and Elladan put both his hands-on Aragorn's arms, right under his shoulders. They met eyes and Elladan told Aragorn a memory that he remembered from long ago. It took place in Rivendell when Aragorn was five years old. It went something like this:
