Chapter 55: Dol Guldur 1-29-17

Aragorn: 17 years old

Aragorn had waken up with a strange feeling inside of him the next morning. He rubbed his eyes and looked around his room. It all looked the same as it always did. The sun wasn't up yet which meant breakfast wouldn't be served until it did come up.

Aragorn got out of his bed and walked to his window sure he could figure out what was troubling him that morning. As he looked out the window he was amazed and curious at what he saw.

As far as his eyes could see, thousands and thousands of Elves, all in shining armor where lined up next to horses. Aragorn hadn't known Rivendell had that many horses. He spotted Elrond and Lyki conversing in front of all the Rivendell Elves lined up. They seemed to be arguing.

That's when it struck him.

The Orcs attacked last night and took Arwen!

Aragorn felt the back of his head and quickly took it down as he felt the bump already forming on his head.

Grabbing his cloak and tying it around himself, Aragorn walked to his door and went outside to see what in Middle Earth was going on. As he approached Elrond and Lyki, Aragorn noticed Elrond eying him and then quickly tell Lyki to stop talking.

"What's going on?" Aragorn asked now in front of Elrond, "Are you going to battle?"

Lyki bowed to Elrond and glanced at Aragorn as he left his spot to go to his horse.

"I'd say so, yes," Elrond said as though he were keeping something from Aragorn.

"On who and where?"

Elrond gave a big sigh and said,

"Something bad has happened and I'm not sure if I should tell you,"

"It has to do with last night, doesn't it?"

"Arwen has been taken," Elrond said and looked down to Aragorn's feet waiting for an immediate reaction.

"I know! I saw and there was an eye that told me..." Aragorn trailed off as he remembered what the strange illusion had told him.

The eye had said: Come after the girl, and you are mine. Don't come after the girl, and she stays my prisoner.

"Don't worry, Estel," Elrond reassured him, "We will get Arwen back,"

"We?"

"Myself and the rest of the Elves are going to Dol Guldur to get her back," Elrond explained even though he had wanted to keep the whole situation a secret.

"Dol Guldur!?"

Elrond nodded and confessed,

"It is a place far away in the woods of Mirkwood. Past Lothlorien and beyond, close to the Woodland Realm,"

"I'm coming too," Aragorn blurted out.

"No," Elrond said calmly, "The only reason why the Orc's took Arwen is because Sauron wants you. Arwen is the bait and you, Estel are the victim," he paused for a reaction and then kept going, "Sauron wants you so that he can kill you and somehow he found out that you are here. In Rivendell,"

Elrond turned away from Aragorn, but Aragorn pulled his shoulder towards him again and said,

"I do not fear death,"

Aragorn still had no idea who Sauron was, but he assumed it was the giant eye that he had seen last night. Elrond didn't know what to say to his stubbornness.

"I'm coming," Aragorn continued.

"Mirkwood is a poisoned forest and only Elves can get through unharmed The very air you breath is a poisonous fume and the water drowns you to sleep for a good long while,"

Aragorn was silent and Elrond continued,

"It's out of the question... I won't allow it," Elrond said sternly.

"I'm not asking you to allow it," Aragorn shot back bravely.

Elrond sighed and Aragorn turned away from him to go pack his things. His cloak flapped behind him dramatically as he turned.

"Estel!" Elrond called out.

Aragorn kept walking. He wouldn't turn around, not now. If they left without him, he would go alone. He could find the way to Dol Guldur. Even if it took him a year, he was getting Arwen back.

Elrond shook his head and turned to the other Elves that had been trying not to pay attention to the argument.

"Get the horses ready, we are leaving now," Elrond commanded.

"What about Estel?" Elladan asked who was on his horse next to Elrond.

"Don't argue," Elrond said not even looking to him, "We are leaving without him. He will follow, but he won't find Dol Guldur. I will send Lagorion to watch him secretly,"

"He is smart, ada," Elrohir noted.

"He has never seen a map of Middle Earth before," Elrond argued, "It is impossible,"

Elladan and Elrohir exchanged a look and both knowing Aragorn was better that just that.

All the Elves grabbed their horse's reins and climbed aboard. It would take a good four days to reach Dol Guldur and they needed a fast ride. Elrond boarded his own horse and called for the rest of the Elves to leave.

He then looked over his shoulder to where Aragorn had walked off to and he saw that he was still walking, faster now to his room. Elrond feared the worst and then turned around and galloped away with the rest of his Elves hoping with all his might that Aragorn would not follow. But if he did, he would be ready to stop him.

-----

Aragorn was in his room packing a small bag of all the things he supposed he would need. Food, water, and weapons. He clothed himself in first a thin layer of clothes, then chainmail over his chest, and then his normal brown lased up shirt he normally wore. Lastly, he put on his boots, belt, and cloak over everything.

Next, he equipped himself with weapons. He put two knives on his belt, the knife that he had first gained from Rivendell was tucked safely in his right boot, and a sword that he also attached to his belt. Then he put the backpack that was filled with water and food onto his back and walked out his door.

Aragorn then walked out of his room and out into the morning knowing that he would be going on another adventure.

A/N: Aragorn is leaving Rivendell for a second time! "I'm going on an adventure!"
