Chapter 47: Aragorn's Turn 2-18-17
Aragorn: 17 years old
Many, many Trials later and it was finally Aragorn and Kenath's turn to duel. Aragorn had frightfully watched some of his friends get beaten and beat other Elves. He had watched Lyki utterly beat his opponent in a mere five seconds. And he had watched Greakth completely hammer his opponent who was unconscious at the moment getting tended to.
"Our first Trial, round twenty-seven will consist of Kenath vs Estel. Please step forward and listen to the rules,"
"Be safe, please, please, be safe," Elrohir whispered as he looked down to Aragorn with worried eyes.
"Don't worry," Aragorn said and waved to his family as he walked out into the circle.
The whole crowd of Elves went up in a cry of joy as Aragorn stepped into the circle. He saw Kenath coming his way as well. It was the first time he had seen him that morning and he was lightly wearing his normal clothes. Kenath gave a shy smile to Aragorn and then looked down.
Tahl stepped forward ready to announce the rules, but first he had some special news,
"This year will be the first year we welcome a fellow human to the Trials! Let's give him our prayers!"
Aragorn looked around to everybody nervously and then Tahl continued onto the rules,
"Here are your swords, Elf and man," Tahl started by handing Kenath and Estel wooden swords. Then he continued, "The rules are simple: You win by disarming your opponent or if one calls out for surrender. If one calls out for surrender they must yell out, 'Daro!' Otherwise, the game will continue until an Elf, or human in this case, wins. Please take your positions Elf and man and get ready," (stop!)
Aragorn and Kenath stood about three feet apart from each other and waited for Tahl to start.
"I will go easy on you, you must win," Kenath whispered silently to Aragorn cupping his mouth with his hands.
Aragorn shook his head and glanced over his shoulder. He saw his twins, Elrond, and Arwen who looked at him looking the most scared Aragorn had ever seen any of them. His heart started pounding so fast and for a split second he wasn't sure he should be doing this.
"Go!" Tahl shouted.
Aragorn froze, the saliva in his mouth was no longer there. Kenath came charging at Aragorn and he managed to dodge him with a jump to the side as Lagorion had taught him many times before.
"Good, good," Aragorn kept hearing Kenath whisper, "Keep going,"
Aragorn wasn't sure why he was saying such things, but he kept on dodging Kenath. He did so until his sword met Kenath's and they were face to face pushing hard on their swords. If either of them let go, they both feared one or the other would be injured badly. This was the normal move to take off one's head, but that would obviously not be happening.
"Sorry," Aragorn said as he looked away from Kenath.
He brought up his leg and kicked Kenath in the stomach which made him revolt back a little. That unlocked their swords and they went at it again. Aragorn realized Kenath was a better swordsman than he had thought. They clashed their sword many times making the crowd hold their breath.
Aragorn was already dripping in sweat and Kenath knew he was getting tired. His brother had told him to take a human's natural states to his advantage, but he didn't want to. Aragorn enthusiastically ran into Kenath and rammed his head full on with his. Kenath backed up and shook his head a little boggled.
Aragorn took his chance and leapt upon Kenath and landed on his chest. He wrapped his legs around him and brought him to the ground.
Aragorn now sat on Kenath and Kenath struggled underneath him. Kenath got a grip around Aragorn's ear and tugged on it hard. He wailed and fell on his back with a loud thud. Aragon and Kenath could hear all the gasping from the crowd and then holding their breath.
Kenath stood up fast and brought his sword down on Aragorn. Aragorn lifted his own sword and made it clash against the wooden blade. Kenath was now on top of Aragorn and there was no way he could get up now. Aragorn held tightly to the sword knowing the wood was cutting into his palms creating splinters. Kenath must have not been holding on so hard because his sprung out of his hand.
As if time had slowed, the sword flew and Kenath stood up and leapt for it. But Aragorn also leapt and caught the handle before Kenath. He had disarmed his opponent! They both fell in a heap on the ground. Kenath landed on top of Aragorn and laid there feeling defeated, in which he was.
Tahl ran over and heaved Kenath off Aragorn and then lifted Aragorn off the ground. He was holding both swords in his hands. Tahl lifted Aragorn's arm in victory and shouted,
"Estel of hope!"
Aragorn looked around wide eyed and mouth opened at the crowd of Elves. Ahead of him he saw the twins, Arwen, and Lagorion all running towards him. Aragorn looked to Kenath and he was smiling the brightest he had ever smiled.
"Kenath, I..." Aragorn started.
"You won!" Kenath said in more than just a whisper this time.
Tahl let go of Aragorn's arm and Aragorn dropped the wooden swords. Kenath took Aragorn's other hand and held it high in the sky. That made all the Elves go insane. Lagorion made it to Aragorn first and gave him a mighty hug.
"You did it!" he proclaimed.
Then Arwen and the twins came over teary eyed and snatched Aragorn away from Lagorion and Kenath. Lagorion and Kenath embraced as Aragorn was with his family.
"You did it, little brother!" Elladan cried.
"I knew you could!" Arwen wept.
"Victory!" screamed Elrohir as he lifted Aragorn off the ground and spun him around like he would do when he was younger.
After about a minute of being crowded by his friends and family he backed up wanting some space.
"Space, space, please!" he said trying to get away from everybody. He didn't like the claustrophobia of the crowd.
All the Elves had come into the circle now and were surrounding Aragorn because he had won. The first human ever allowed into the Trials and he had won. It was Aragorn.
A/N: Yay, Aragorn! Do any of you have any predictions on who else Aragorn will go against next?
