Chapter 35: Tree Madness 2-11-17

Aragorn: 9 years old

"Stand up, we have to get off... now," Aragorn said in a panic.

Arwen agreed, stood on the branch, and walked across to the rest of the tree. Aragorn followed her, but they were both stopped as Greakth had already made his way up the tree.

"Wow, how lucky am I to just run into you two like this," Greakth said acting as though he were surprised to see Aragorn and Arwen in the tree.

"You already knew we were you here," Arwen argued, "Get out of my way,"

"Feisty, princess!" Greakth said making his face look offended.

Arwen clenched her teeth getting more upset by the normal annoying tone of Greakth's voice.

"We were just coming down," Aragorn explained, "There is a storm coming,"

At that, it started to rain.

"Wow, you must be bad luck," Greakth said stubbornly still standing in Aragorn and Arwen's way.

"Just move, please," Arwen said a little more calmly.

"Of course, here let me help you," Greakth said sickinly sweet.

Greakth moved out of the way and reached out as an attempt to help Arwen down.

"Don't touch me," Arwen snapped.

She climbed down the tree past Greakth herself. Aragorn followed, but Greakth stopped him from getting down.

"Not you," Greakth said and put his hand on Aragorn's chest.

Aragorn immediately drew back not liking the Elf touching him. Greakth would easily get banned for doing such a thing anyway.

"Greakth, let him by, or I will tell my father," Arwen screamed from below.

Greakth ignored her and looked dead at Aragorn. Aragorn starred back at him and shook his head.

"Why?" he peeped.

"Why what?" Greakth asked.

Aragorn looked down and shook his head. He sat down and waited for Greakth to move out of the way. He looked to the sky as the rain fell on his face.

"I like the rain," Aragorn whispered.

"What are you mumbling about?" Greakth asked.

Aragorn jerked his head to look at Greakth and as he did so he tried to figure the Elf out. There was such hate written on his face. No other Elf Aragorn had met was like Greakth. All the other Elves were happy and enjoyed life.

"Your special," Aragorn whispered to Greakth.

"Your weird," Greakth said.

Aragorn looked back up to the sky and closed his eyes.

"Come on Greakth, move already," Arwen was getting impatient down on the ground.

The next thing Aragorn knew, Greakth had taken him by his shirt and brought him back onto the branch that sat over the waterfall. Greakth let him go and stood up with perfect balance on the branch. Aragorn sat below him. The rain was really starting to pour down now making Aragorn shiver.

"Stand up," Greakth said.

"The branch is too wet, I will fall," Aragorn said and disobeyed the Elf.

Aragorn watched Greakth's ears jolt to the left and then his face turned along with it. Greakth's eyes went wide as he saw what was coming from the waterfall next to them. Aragorn turned his head as he saw the alarmed look on Greakth's face. His face fell as he saw what was coming fast.

It was a flashflood.

"Move!" Aragorn yelled at Greakth.

Greakth was frozen staring at the water rushing towards them. Aragorn knew what he was about to do was going to risk his life but it was the only option. He stood up on the branch and hooked his feet into the holes of the branch so he wouldn't slip.

Aragorn gave one more glance at the oncoming flood and then he pushed Greakth as hard as he could out of the way. Greakth fell over into the safely of the tree completely stunned. Before Aragorn could also get out of the way, the flood of water came rushing out and completely flowed over the branch in which Aragorn stood.

"ESTEL!" Arwen screamed on the top of her lungs.

She had managed to reclimb the tree and now stood behind Greakth. They both stood watching in complete terror at the branch that was completely covered in water.

"This is all your fault! I can't believe you!" Arwen screamed.

Greakth stood looking down to Arwen feeling very overwhelmed suddenly. Arwen was sobbing and collapsed on the tree.

"He saved me..." Greakth murmured.

He looked to the branch that still had water crowding all over. It was too late. Greakth would be banned from Rivendell. He hadn't meant for any of that to happen. All he intended was to scare Aragorn and Arwen a little. Just to mess with them, but his plan had all gone wrong.

Arwen lifted her head at the sound of coughing. She stopped crying and looked down to the ground below the tree. She saw the impossible. Aragorn was on the ground. Arwen jumped off the tree flying down about ten feet through the air. She landed perfectly on her feet at the bottom and crouched down to Aragorn's side.

"How in Middle Earth did you manage to do what you did? What did you do anyway?" Arwen asked frantic, "Oh, are you all right?'

Aragorn didn't answer because he was too busy coughing out water from his lungs. He had nearly drown as he had been stuck in the flow of the flood water. He felt lightheaded as he lay down to the ground on his stomach.

Arwen didn't realize it, but Greakth was standing behind her looking down at them. He was quiet for once not saying one word. Arwen patted Aragorn on the back trying to help him get the water out.

"It's all right, I am here," Arwen said soothingly.

Aragorn finished his coughing fit and laid his head on the ground to rest as he felt he might be sick or pass out. He was soaking wet and the rain was still pouring down on the Elves and Aragorn.

"How did you get back up?" Arwen asked quietly.

Aragorn lifted his head slowly and looked at Arwen with half open eyes and explained,

"I wrapped my body around the under part of the branch and crawled against the current of the water. Then I fell to the solid ground,"

Arwen helped Aragorn get to his feet slowly.

"You are a fast thinker. I thought I lost you," Arwen said and gave him a quick hug, "Let's get you to your warm bed. The water must have been cold,"

Aragorn nodded as his teeth chattered and his head ached. Neither Aragorn nor Arwen looked up or even noticed Greakth standing beside them. They started walking away, but Greakth said,

"Please... don't tell Lord Elrond,"

Arwen turned with her hands on her hips and said,

"I can do whatever I want,"

"Please," Greakth said looking as worried as Arwen had ever seen him be.

Aragorn turned around now and looked at Greakth, but said nothing.

"Please," Greakth said again this time in a whisper.

Aragorn looked to the ground as if thinking and Arwen stuck her nose to the sky and starred Greakth down. Greakth looked down ashamed. Aragorn decided to speak up and said,

"I won't,"

Arwen looked to Aragorn thinking he got water stuck in his head.

"But..." Arwen interjected.

Aragorn shook his head and looked himself up and down.

"I'm here. Whole as a person. I'm alive,"

Greakth looked up to Aragorn and his normal look of evil returned to his face. Then Greakth turned away, disappearing into the storm dramatically.

"I think you should tell Elrond," Arwen said.

"No," Aragorn argued, "I just feel it wouldn't be right,"

Arwen nodded knowing her friend was right. He always saw the good in bad situations and she liked that about him. She just hoped that wouldn't be the reason of his downfall.
