Chapter 34: Weakness 2-10-17
Aragorn: 9 years old
Aragorn and Lagorion were growing more connected and comfortable with each other day after day. They shared good fighting techniques and some good laughs over simple things. One day in particular, Aragorn had learned Lagorion's one weakness and that was this day.
Lagorion ducked as Aragorn swung his sword at him. Lagorion backhanded Aragorn, which made him tumble to the ground. He landed on his stomach and Lagorion got a little nervous when he didn't get up right away like he always did.
"Sorry, too hard?" Lagorion rushed to Aragorn, "Are you okay?"
Without looking at Lagorion, Aragorn responded with,
"Yah, look at this!"
Aragorn rolled over onto his back and reached his hand out to Lagorion. Lagorion reached out to help his friend up, but screamed at what he saw was on Aragorn's hand. Aragorn jumped back a little in shock at Lagorion's quick response. Lagorion dropped his sword and tumbled backward until he was on the ground a couple feet away from Aragorn.
Aragorn looked down to his hand. He held a beetle. A big black beetle that covered most of his hand. He had always loved looking at all the insects around the woods of Rivendell.
"Is it poisonous?" asked Aragorn in a quite calm tone.
"N-n-no," Lagorion stammered, "I-I am j-j-just... insects are my w-weaknes-ss,"
"You don't like bugs?" Aragorn asked cocking his head at his friend who was still on the ground looking scared out of his mind.
"No, I hate them. Their crawling tickles, they bite, and they are hairy, ugh!"
Aragorn smiled and said,
"Not all of them are as you described though," Aragorn said and stood up, "This one is a beautiful beetle with a perfectly shiny armored back plate,"
"Do as you like with it, but don't be bringing it over to me is all," Lagorion said his voice quivering.
"Alright, I won't," Aragorn watched the beetle crawl onto his other hand.
He looked up to see Lagorion almost about to be sick. Aragorn quickly turned away, so his friend wouldn't get disgusted by the beetle he held in his hand. Laying his hand gently down in the nearby roots of a tree, the large beetle crawled off Aragorn's fingers and onto the tree roots below. He watched it crawl under some leaves and then he turned around again.
Lagorion had recovered and looked less nauseous than a moment ago. He sheathed his swords and knives and said,
"That will be about enough for today,"
"Alright, thank you for spending time with me," Aragorn said.
Lagorion bowed and walked closer to Aragorn and said,
"Your nose is bleeding, here,"
He ripped off a piece of cloth from his clothing and gave it to Aragorn. He wiped his face off and said thank you again.
"Sorry for hitting you so hard," Lagorion said looking embarrassed.
"Its fine," Aragorn reassured him with a smile showing that he was all better.
"Good, let's go," Lagorion said and turned around to head back to Rivendell.
Aragorn followed close behind, not wanting to get lost in the woods again like he had done when he had first started living in Rivendell.
Once in Rivendell, Aragorn went to his tree that sat over the waterfall. That's where he liked to go to find peace and relaxation. He took off his boots and climbed the tree. As he climbed, he brushed off the snow that had collected on the tree branches. Then he scooched himself across the large branch out above the waterfall.
Aragorn lay on the branch for many hours looking at the waterfall flow beneath him rapidly.
"Estel!" somebody yelled from the base of Aragorn's tree.
He looked down and saw Arwen. She was talking off her shoes and starting to climb the tree.
"Woah! Careful!" Aragorn called out and crawled on the branch to get to her.
"I can do it," Arwen said looking determined.
She reached up, but couldn't quite reach to where Aragorn was. He offered his hand down to her as assistance.
"I can do it," Arwen said again her tongue sticking out for concentration.
She screamed as she lost her footing, but Aragorn caught her hand and pulled her up safely.
"Thanks," Arwen said with a smile as Aragorn pulled her up into the tree.
He smiled in return and crawled back out to sit on the branch above the waterfall. Arwen followed and Aragorn was less nervous about her since she was an Elf. Lagorion always said that they have amazing balance. She sat next to him and looked behind her at the waterfall.
"This is really cool!" she proclaimed.
"That's why I love it up here, it's so peaceful, so calming, so perfect," Aragorn said.
Arwen leaned her head against Aragorn's shoulder for a moment and closed her eyes. She saw why her friend liked it up there so much. It really was amazing. Aragorn looked to the clouds and noticed that a clump of the clouds coming towards Rivendell was black.
"I think a storm is coming," Aragorn said and looked down to Arwen, "I think we better get off the tree soon,"
Arwen looked up to the sky and nodded,
"Just one more minute,"
Arwen was about to lean into Aragorn more when her ears twitched as she heard a noise come from behind them. She looked to the base of the tree and saw who she really did not want to see.
"Estel, we have company,"
Aragorn looked over and saw Greakth.
A/N: If there is anything that you ever imagined Aragorn's life to be like in Rivendell, feel free to tell me and I can try to add it in somewhere. I am looking for new ideas since I am still writing this story. I think I am currently on chapter 71, maybe... So any suggestions would be nice! :D
