Chapter 31: Feast 2-8-17

Aragorn: 9 years old

That night, Aragorn and Elrond walked into the Hall together. As they did so, all the Elves that had attended, which was almost everyone, leaped up from their chairs and yelled "Happy birthday!". It made Aragorn looked down, his face flushing red with shyness and embarrassment.

Elrond pulled Aragorn's seat out for Aragorn and he sat down in the chair. Then he sat down next to him, where he always did, at the end of the long table of Elves.

"This is wonderful!" Arwen said who was sitting across from Aragorn.

"Absolutely!" Aragorn complimented.

Aragorn got a tap on the shoulder and he turned around to see an Elf that went by the name of Kenath. He had seen him a couple times since his stay in Rivendell and he seemed a very shy, but very kind Elf.

"Yes?" Aragorn asked as he looked back to Kenath.

"Somebody wants to see you, Estel," Kenath responded in a low whisper.

Every time Aragorn had interacted with Kenath, he always whispered. It wasn't anything new, so he accepted this and stood up from his chair.

"Who?" he asked looking around.

"G-Greakth. He is over there," Kenath silently spoke.

Aragorn looked to where Kenath had gestured and sure enough saw Greakth standing in the doorway of the building. He had an unreadable look on his face which was looking around at all the Elves in the room dinning. Greakth was leaning on the doorframe waiting patiently.

"Thank you, Kenath," Aragorn said and walked toward Greakth.

Kenath smiled and turned his back going the opposite way. Aragorn approached Greakth cautiously and once Greakth met his sharp blue eyes with Aragorn's, he slowed even more. Greakth must have sensed his uncertainly and said bluntly,

"Are you scared of me?"

Aragorn ignored the question and asked his own,

"Kenath said you wanted me. Do you need something?"

"Well," Greakth started, and then paused. He looked down to his nails. His usual sharp acting face washed away, "I have something to say, but don't think anything of it,"

Aragorn waited in anticipation wondering what in Middle Earth Greakth would have to say to him. He looked up to Greakth. He had grown a lot since; Aragorn had started living in Rivendell. He was easily double Aragorn's size and had muscles like no other Elf.

"Well, um..." Greakth stopped again.

Aragorn had never seen him act this way before. Greakth had always been an overconfident Elf that not many other Elves appreciated. Aragorn thought it best to just be patient and wait.

"It's not like I'm staying for dinner or anything, but all I wished to say was..." Greakth stopped again as he choked on his tongue, "Happy birthday," he said quickly.

Then, leaving Aragorn in awe, Greakth turned around fast and disappeared in the night. Aragorn hadn't even gotten the chance to say anything to him; he had left too fast.

"Thank you," Aragorn whispered.

He was snapped out of the trance he was in by the sound of his name from behind. He turned to see another of the fellow Elves. He went by the name, Lyki.

"Happy birthday, my dear friend," Lyki said with a steady voice and bowed to Aragorn.

Lyki was another Elf that Aragorn admired dearly. He had long brown hair, like Elrond, and always wore a dark blue tunic. As Lyki walked he always carried a happy bounce to his step. Aragorn only saw him as being a courageous Elf that never gave up. Aragorn had always guessed Lyki was like his own father.

Not only that, but he was also great with a sword and bow. Aragorn only dreamed of being as an amazing fighter as he was. The way he maneuvered himself was priceless and looked as if he were dancing flawlessly. Aragorn came to the thought that Lyki might have been the best warrior in Rivendell.

"Thank you!" Aragorn said, still a little boggled by Greakth.

Lyki and Aragorn exchanged a smile and Aragorn made his way back to his seat.

"Where have you been?" Elrond asked.

"Talking to others. Lots have wished me a happy birthday," Aragorn explained.

Elrond smiled and said,

"Glad to hear,"

Aragorn piled his plate with all sorts of nuts, berries, fruits, and fish. The meat was specifically just for him since Elves didn't eat meat.

He thought back to Hokel and wished he were there now to share his birthday with him. Aragorn knew Hokel would have made those amazing pastry cakes for him for dessert. He sent a little prayer to Hokel and then dug into his plate that looked deliciously filled with wonderfulness.

A/N: Another reminder is that Aragorn only knows that his name is Estel. He has forgotten his acual name. And yes, that is another fact that was true in Tolkien's world! :D
