Chapter 16: You Aren't an Elf 12-25-16
Aragorn: 8 years old
A week past and Aragorn was doing a lot better. It was still very cold out, so Elrond had given Aragorn a couple more layers of clothing. He clothed and decided he would go eat breakfast. Very rarely did he do so, but he had skipped dinner two nights in a row due to the Orc attack.
He walked up the steps of the building and tried not slipping on the icy steps. Once he got to the top of the staircase, he looked to the doorway and was not pleased. The one Elf in Rivendell that for some reason had a problem with him was standing in the doorway. Greakth. He was just leaning against the doorframe smiling slyly at Aragorn.
Aragorn tried not to make eye contact and walked up to the door like any other normal day.
"Excuse me," Aragorn said trying to get past Greakth.
"Not so fast little guy. I want to have a friendly little talk with you,"
For some reason the way Greakth had said the word 'friendly' sounded as if he meant the very opposite of the definition.
"I want to go inside," Aragorn said, "I'm hungry,"
"It won't take long," Greakth insisted, "walk with me,"
"I am going inside, sorry," Aragorn looked down and tried going inside the building.
"I said walk with me," Greakth pulled him away from the door and pushed him down the stairs.
Aragorn almost slipped on the ice but gained control of his balance quickly. Aragorn really did not want to talk to him now, or ever for that matter. He turned around and watched him. Then Greakth started walking away from the building and down the stairs so Aragorn followed at a good distance.
"So how come I haven't seen you in a while? I thought you got taken by those Orcs that came a week ago," Greakth said.
Aragorn didn't answer.
"They killed so many Elves," Greakth continued.
That comment made Aragorn feel depressed because it was true. Many had fought, and many had died. Greakth stopped and changed the subject suddenly.
"Why is it that you don't have pointed ears?" Greakth came close to Aragorn and tugged on his ears a little too hard for Aragorn's liking.
Not this again...
Aragorn pushed him away. He didn't want to start the ear conversation again, it happened quite a lot and he was sick of it. By now, he thought that every Elf in Rivendell should know that he is human and they are quite different form Elves.
"And why is it that your hair is not straight?" Greakth asked, "Oh that's right, because you aren't an Elf,"
"Your point is?" Aragorn asked feeling intimidated.
"I want to show you something, come on," Greakth said and started walking away from the Hall.
"Maybe some other time, Greakth," Aragorn said and turned back to the Hall.
But Greakth grabbed his arm and pulled him close to him.
"I said, follow me!" he spat sounding mad.
Aragorn walked next to him now not wanting him to get upset even more. Greakth tightened his grasp around Aragorn's wrist and pulled him along. They walked through Rivendell until they got to a bridge. Greakth dragged Aragorn along it and then stopped in the middle on it. He looked around and then looked at Aragorn and said,
"Look down there," he pointed to under the bridge.
Aragorn looked and saw water rushing from a nearby waterfall and some sharp looking boulders at the bottom as well. Then he looked back at Greakth nervously not seeing the point of why they were standing on a bridge looking down.
"See that?" Greakth asked. Though it wasn't much of a question, "An Elf could jump off this bridge and land perfectly on those boulders down there, see, see! On their feet!"
"Interesting," Aragorn responded still nervous.
"Interesting, indeed. Guess what?" Greakth stated, "Humans, like you can't do that,"
"Of course, not,"
"Do you want to try?" Greakth asked with an evil grin.
He pushed Aragorn to the edge of the bridge and then pushed him forward.
"Stop!" Aragorn shouted louder than he had expected.
"Do you know how long humans live?" Greakth asked even though he already knew the answer, "They live about one hundred years or less. Elves live for thousands! Thousands!"
In Aragorn's mind, he knew that he was the last member of the Dunedain, so even though he was a mortal he would live triple the amount of time as a normal human. Although he did not want to say this to Greakth so he kept quiet.
"In my opinion, why have humans in the world? Their lives are so short," Greakth said, "They aren't going to make any difference,"
"It doesn't matter how long you live, it's how you live it," Aragorn defended still trying to stay calm.
Greakth got upset by the decent comeback so he pushed Aragorn forward even more off the bridge. Aragorn grabbed his arm back and latched it onto Greakth's shirt tight.
"Clever," Greakth whispered, "Are you sure you don't want to try and jump off this bridge and land like an Elf could do? Maybe you will surprise yourself,"
Aragorn shook his head from side to side fast. Greakth pulled him back fast making Aragorn gasp. Greakth started walking away and Aragorn stumbled backwards a little. He fell on the cold stone, but quickly got back up not wanting Greakth to see his stumble. It was clear that he disliked humans, such as himself.
Suddenly Greakth turned around and grabbed Aragorn's arm once again and whispered through clenched teeth,
"I don't like humans. They are ugly and ungraceful, unlike Elves. Elrond thinks you are special and I don't want any more Elves connecting with you. Don't think I didn't notice him," Greakth spat, "So, what is special about you then?"
Aragorn didn't answer.
"I think it's time to rid you of Middle Earth," Greakth said with a nasty grin.
Without too much of a warning, Greakth grabbed Aragorn with so much force and throw him off the bridge they were standing on. Aragorn had no time to think as he went sailing through the cold crisp air flying off the bridge and to the rocks below.
A/N: Yikes!!!! I told you this was going to get intense! Another cliffhanger :D
