The call with Robin seemed to calm my racing heart and I took a few more deep breaths before grabbed the sack of donuts, "Focus, focus, you have a show to run." I grabbed the coffee cups and began to make my way quickly to the kitchen. Hopefully I wasn't gone too long and nobody asks.
I made it to back to the kitchen to see that everything was coming along smoothly. "Wow, looks nice." I give a soft smile as my friends walk over and take their respective coffees before I opened the donut bag, "I didn't know which you would like so I just got six random, that okay?"
"That's perfect." Marco replied after he pulled out a crème donut, taking a big bite. "Hey? Have you managed to convince Law to come to the party?" I giggle, "I have only known about this party for like maybe a day and already everyone is wondering if I am going to bring Law; which is a dumb question because of course I'm dragging Law to the party." I roll my eyes playfully as I hold open the bag for Sanji and Thatch to grab their donuts before I take mine. "It's kind of weird to think that Pops is retiring from his law firm." Marco and Sanji both tilted their heads slightly as if they didn't know that's what the party was for, the most puzzling look on their faces before Thatch laughed, "Man, you guys must be super tired! Totally forgetting that Pops is retiring." He smacked his brother's shoulder, whose frown lessened, "Oh right!" He smacked his forehead lightly, "I recall now." "Actually this is the first I heard of Mr. Newgate leaving his job." Sanji replied, sipping his coffee. "Trying to pass it on to Sabo?" "Definitely wouldn't be Ace or Luffy. Neither are interested and that would be like trying to teach a camel to surf." Marco grinned as we laughed at his comparison. "I think Sabo would make the perfect candidate to pass on the firm to." I chimed in, "That boy is quite the hard worker when the other two aren't roping him into crazy mischief." "Don't be fooled Fae, Sabo causes just as much trouble as the other two." Thatch waved his finger at me, "He is just better at hiding it."
"So what do you think of the decorations?" Sanji butted in as he gestured to the room that was being set up for tomorrow. "They sure do like this peach color." I frown slightly before clearly my throat, "The decorations look lovely though. And you guys work fast, I don't think I was gone that long getting the coffee and donuts." "Well when you know how to instruct people, it goes swiftly." Sanji grinned as he washed his hands before glancing up at the clock, "Our deliveries should be here any minute." "Did we have to order a lot?" I glance at the clock as well before looking back at Sanji, doing my best to ignore Mr. Walters walking towards us. "Actually no, the hotel provided most of the dishes." Sanji pulled out a little notepad, "We mainly needed a few more dishes."
Midnight rolled around and everyone had retired to their rooms for the evening. I groaned as I flopped onto my bed, "Tomorrow's gonna be a long day." I glanced at the bathroom, "I should probably take a nice bath." I stood and wandered over to the clothes that I had Nami drop off in the middle of the day. "What did she even give me?" I picked up the shirt and turned it around to see that it had some cute little unicorn on the front with little rainbows. "Cute." And then checked out the matching bottoms. Once in the bathroom, I started the water and poured in a generous amount of soap, "You can never have too many bubbles." I jump slightly at the ringing from my phone in the other room and nearly trip over myself to answer the facetime call, "Hello? Oh, hi babe!" I grin as Law's handsome face pops up on the screen "Hey-" he started before Bepo shoves his wet nose at the camera, whining. "Ah, Bepo~ya, move your big head." Law grumbles as he tries to shove the fluff ball out of his way. I giggle softly, "Don't worry Bepo, I'll be home tomorrow. I promise." I stand and head back into the bathroom to check the water, "So what do I owe the pleasure of this call?" I prop my phone up against the little toothbrush holder and face it towards the tub as I shift out of the way to undress. Law grunts as he finally gets Bepo out of the way of the camera, "I just wanted to check in on you." "Oh! I almost forgot to tell you," I step into the tub and sink into the cover of bubbles. "I get to be a bridesmaid." "Really?" He asks and I nod, turning to face the camera, "Yeah, the bride needs someone to step in for a friend that can't make it." I started to explain, "It caught me off guard-." I glance at the phone to make sure Law was listening. He was staring intently at the camera and I shifted, tugging at my earlobe, "-what?" "Have I ever told you just how beautiful you are?" He whispered softly and I glance away at the bubbles before looking back at the phone, "Law..." I took in his relaxed smile, one he only reserves for close friends. I let out a small breath before remembering the story I was telling, "Right, anyway, she pulls out this super ugly peach colored dress." I made a face, "Oh and she gave me such a judgemental look because I have been dating you for three years and she's getting married after only a couple of months. Can you believe the nerve? A couple of months and she's giving me looks because of three years." I roll my eyes, "Like excuse me but my boyfriend respects my decision to take it slowly." I take my rag and began to wash my arms "So how was your day?" "It was pretty normal, not too much trouble. Usopp~ya came in with a sprained ankle after Luffy~ya managed to rope him into another one of his crazy ideas and accidentally pushed him off a building." Law began to explain how odd it was that his ankle sprained and didn't fracture or break completely. "Oh, I did run into Ms. Ren~ya today, apparently she has moved in down the street from us and really likes Bepo~ya." "Ms. Ren? Oh, the sister the wedding is for. They moved into the empty house?" I asked him as I sunk in the water a bit to soak. "I was curious how long that house was going to sit vacant." Law mumbled and rested his cheek onto his arm, "Hopefully they leave us alone." I giggled at his grumpiness. I couldn't really blame him. We had gotten used to living in our neighborhood with a certain routine and relationship with our neighbors. "She was tugging along a little girl." He yawned slightly and reached over to pat Bepo's head, "And she started to ask about where to find a dog like Bepo~ya." "Well she can try the shelter." I replied after glancing to the ceiling. The couple had a child? Was she being abused? "They better not be that weird type that wants a specific dog, I will fight them if they even think of taking Bepo~ya." Law's voice cut into my thoughts and I looked back at him, "I don't think they will." I took notice of the bags under his eyes, "Maybe you should get some sleep, I will see you tomorrow after the wedding." "What if it drags into the early morning?" He hummed and I shrugged as I hadn't thought about it, "Hopefully we are getting paid a lot then." He gave me a slight grin and I smirked,"I love you, sleep well and have sweet dreams." "I love you too, Fae~ya, sleep well." He yawned again before we both blew each other kisses then hung up.
"Tomorrow is going to be so long." I let out a heavy sigh and just sunk down to my chin in the hot water.
Our group was up early again as we all rushed to double check yesterday's preparation.
"Are you sure you guys are going to be able to cater without me?" I tilt my head, squinting my eyes as the lights made them burn slightly from my lack of proper sleep. "We'll be fine Fae." Thatch reassured me for probably the millionth time as he walked over and placed his hands upon my shoulders, "Besides shouldn't you be grateful? All you have to do is stand in a dress and look pretty." I roll my eyes and smack his hands away, "I'd rather be slaving over the hot kitchen stove." Thatch let out a snort and shook his head before he gave me a grin, "Don't worry, we won't be here too long." "If you say so." I shrug half hearted before glancing over to Sanji and Marco, both men working swiftly to help the overworked short staff of the hotel. "We got this, if we really need help feeding a bunch of people, you can step in after the ceremony; deal?" Thatch grinned and I smiled, "Deal." Before Trudy rushed in "Ah! There you are! We need to get everyone dressed and ready!" She grabbed my arm, pulling me out of the kitchen without so much as a goodbye to my friends and comfort zone. I nearly stumble over my own feet as I hurry to catch up to her fast pace as she rushed over to the elevator. "Are you excited?" She asked once we get in. "Kind of nervous." I tugged on my earlobe, "I am not much of a dress wearer and it is the first wedding I have ever been to. What am I supposed to do?" "Well you just stand in line, walk down the aisle, and then you stand with the other girls near the alter. Just looking pretty." She explained as the elevator stopped on her floor and then we rushed down the hallway. As we got closer to her room, I could hear the bustle and loud conversations of the other bridesmaids, which halted when we stood at the door; all eyes on us.
"Is that her?" The busty woman asked. She was sitting down at the vanity while another girl did her makeup. Everyone dressed in the similar ugly peach dress and hair up in a tight bun. "Yup." Trudy smacked my shoulder lightly before pushing me further into the room. "Wow, is that real?" A petite blonde asked as she grabbed for my bright red hair. "Yes, it is." I blush lightly. "No way." She gasped, "I have never seen natural red hair this dark in color. It looks dyed." "Well I can honestly tell you that it's not." I gave her a side eye as my reply came out slightly rough as Trudy shoved the dress into my arms. "Quick, change!" Tugging me towards the bathroom. I hurry to change into the dress and heels before I sit in line to get my makeup done. The blonde walked over and began to brush back my hair, "It's so soft!" She giggled as the brush glided through my long locks before she pulled it into a ponytail then twisting it in a tight bun. "I really appreciate you stepping in for my bestie." The busty woman spoke up from her place at the vanity. "I understand that you were going to cater?" "Oh yeah, I help make the ten layer cake." I smile warmly, trying to ignore the blonde petting my soft hair. "Because I work at the Devil Fruit Bakery run by Thatch Newgate." "You work for the there? Wow!" The brunette doing makeup looked at me with stars in her eyes, "I have been there a few times and it is always filled with the most handsome men I have ever seen!" She gushed "The blonde with the curly brow is to die for! Do you have connections to him?" She gave me such a hopeful look. "Uh? I do?" I tugged at my ear. "You know he's a perverted womanizer right?" I thought back to the first time I met Sanji.
~Flashback~
"And this is where you will be working." Mr. Newgate held open the door to a lovely little bakery. I stepped inside and relaxed at the wonderful smells of freshly baked goods. "Thatch!" Mr. Newgate called out after he stepped inside and the door shut behind him, "Come meet your new employee!" "Coming Pops!" A voice replied and we shuffled over to the glass counter, I bent down to look at the brownies in the display case, "Wow, those look really good." "Thanks~" I glance up to see a blonde man. His bangs hanging lowly over one eye and a curly eyebrow sticking out over the naked eye. "I made them myself just for a goddess like you~" He swooned as he pulled out a rose from his suit pocket, immediately shoving it into my face. I step back slightly, completely overwhelmed by his sudden forwardness, "Uh? Thanks...?" I slowly reach for the rose. His hands sudden grasp mine and he's quick to place a soft kiss upon my knuckles, "Anything for you Darling~" the hearts in his eyes were terrifying. I glanced at Mr. Newgate, silently praying this wasn't his second eldest son, my boss.
"Ack-!"
I swiftly turn my gaze back to the man to see him rubbing the back of his head, presumably where the brunet had hit him. "Sanji, quit scaring the lady." He glared at the blonde before turning to look at me with a friendly smile, "Good morning, you must be Miss Fae." He leaned over the counter to shake my empty hand. I return his handshake, and smile, "Yes sir, and I'm ready to work." I was determined to pull my life together with Mr. Newgate's help. He chuckled lightly, "Please, sir is for my father." He gestured to Mr. Newgate, "Call me Thatch."
~end~
I blinked and looked into the mirror to see my face dusted with makeup. I smiled gently, "Wow, so beautiful~" Honestly, I hated makeup. It always felt too cakey and makes my face breakout horribly. "Alrighty girls, you ready?" Trudy clapped her hands as she walked back into the room, "The ceremony starts in ten minutes." "Yeah, we are ready." The best friend exclaimed with an excited look as I tried to swallow the nervous lump forming in my throat. Ten minutes until I am standing in front of unknown people and Walter... I sucked in a soft breath as I blinked away the horrid memories that tried to bash at my skull. I needed to remain focused. I grip my fingers before standing to follow the girls out of the room.
Only ten minutes could feel like an eternity.
