Chapter 3 - Destruction

I will never forget what happened that night

As Hope and Myriad descended into the cavern Hope almost slipped. with a loud crack from a rapid transformation she dug her claws into the rock and steadied herself to prevent herself from falling. she heard laughter above her and looked to see Myriad laughing at her clinging to the cliff wall. she let out a growl and asked "so you wanna try falling huh?" before he could reply she lept up the wall and grabbed him. she had to let go of the wall and they fell down the dark shaft.

the sound of fabric tearing echoed through the cavern and suddenly they were flying through a dark world. crystals could be seen in the darkness. a rocky rise was approaching fast and the duo tumbled onto the rock without any injuries. Myriad got up first and playfully wacked Hope in the back of her skull. She whined and asked "what was that for?" He replied with "You made me think we were gonna die!" As the sound of bones changing once again she  was back as a normal skeleton and said "look there is a reason i brought you here." she pointed towards the centre of the cave. A large crystal could be seen and she spoke again "watch." Myriad was about to ask her what she meant when a beam of moonlight pierced through the darkness and the cavern was filled with startling lights. When their eyes adjusted Myriad let out a gasp of shock. a beam of moonlight was shining on the large crystal which in turn sent beams of light out to the rest of the crystals. the entire cave was illuminated. there were beams and crystals of all colours. it was a beautiful sight. Hope took out a small box in her bag. Myriad looked at the light blue velvet curiously. 'why does she have a box with her?' he soon got his answer when she went down on one knee.

"Myriad i have known you for so long now. ever since we met as kids you were always kind to me. When i lost my home you took me in and let me live under the same rooftop as you. even when it comes to the human you always are there to comfort me. remind me it will all be over soon. I started to feel a feeling i couldn't figure out. but after the last run i realised. i wasn't meant to figure it out. because I dont want to grow up alone. i dont want to live out the rest of my existence and into whatever is beyond without someone else. and thats when i finally realised it. no one needs LOVE. but everyone needs love. if that makes sense. so i guess what im trying to say is."

she opened the box to reveal the small, golden ring. "Will you marry me?"

Myriad was shocked. He had expected anything but this. she really did love him after all.

But before he could answer her, he felt something wrap around his ankle. before he could see what he was dragged onto the ground and being pulled into a swirling white portal. White strings lept from the depths of the portal and wrapped around Myriad in more places. he was entangled in the threads. Hope watched in shock. when she finally comprehended what was happening she lept for her love's arm in a desperate attempt to save him. she clutched onto his hand as his legs dangled in the portal. The look of terror on their faces seemed to mirror each other as they clutched each other for their lives. They weren't strong enough to stop the pull of the strings. soon Hope was being dragged to the portal as well.

As the back of Myriad's skull touched the portal he realised he would only drag her in with him. So with a look of deep sorrow he said "I'm sorry," and then he let go.

He was dragged quickly into the portal. Hope scrambled to grab him again but was too late. the portal closed. He was gone.

She sat there for a while. unable to think about what just happened. he was gone. she failed to save him. it was her fault. when she finally realised what happened she cried. At first it was only a tear or two, but it grew until she let out a roar of sorrow. Her love was gone and she failed to protect him. she was in emotional disdain. she couldn't think straight. and so she ran. she grabbed her bag and ran. she reached the edge of the plateau and lept off. the drop would have killed a normal monster. but of course she wasn't a normal monster.

With the sound of her bones changing once more she spread her wings and soared through the cavern. she flapped them until she shot out of the opening in the cavern ceiling. she expected the town would be asleep and full of glowing lanterns. Not like this.

White fire consumed the town. It ate up the poor monsters who tried to put it out to no avail. houses burned and disappeared as the monsters inside screamed in the flames. A woshua could be seen trying to  put out the flames with water when the fire only raced up the liquid and devoured to unfortunate monster. this was no normal fire. it was magical, and not from any known monster in the kingdom. Once something touched the fire it destroyed the monster and left no trace whatsoever that they were even there except charred ground. monsters yelled about the end of the world as they died. One monster  who was still on fire claimed that this was the work of a higher being as they suffered in the horrible flames. The calls for help were answered with more cries of pain as the helpers caught fire and suffered alongside the victims. the skies turned red. it was as if the very world was dying. It was pure chaos.

Hope soared above said chaos and only watched as her home that she had grown up to love was being taken away from her. She rode the currents that were being created from the growing inferno until she came upon her house. it was only beginning to be reached by the flames. the fires were already starting to reach into the sky. she wouldn't be able to escape them like that. her only chance of survival would be the safe. inside was what she had been working on for years now. it was her only hope. The half the house was on fire. she raced through  her window and immediately stuck her tail into the hole in the safe and begged it to hurry up with scanning her signature. the fire was in the room now. it was steadily making its way towards her. with a click the safe opened and she reached to the very back of it and grabbed the bottle of pure magic.

"I damn hope works. like hell am i going down without getting an answer!" and so she downed the entire bottle of magic. Just before the roof collapsed and the flames destroyed her entire existence in a burst of magic she dissapeared and left StringTale to ruins.

Hope landed in cold snow. It was then she let the tears loose.

I couldn't do anything. I saw the fires destroy everyone. Asgore, Toriel, Muffet, Grillby, Undyne. No one survived. If i was fast enough i could have saved him. I'm fucking useless. since then i have trained myself to become stronger. So that i may be able to find Myriad and finally get my answer. Its been three millennia's now and im ready to wait even more to find him. I never forgave myself for that night. I hope that seeing him once more will finally give me some peace. Get some rest. we will be heading out soon and you may need some energy.

[A/N]

This chapter took me a full day to write. Now you all know what happened to her in the past. She deserves some sympathy. I may reveal what happened after she landed in the snow in another book. comment if you want me to write it. Oh and i watched The hidden world today. i cried at the end. not as much as i did when i watched an amv for some reason though. Oh and if you want to ask go ahead. i will only start another ask section when i have questions to answer.
