Chapter Six
Saturday night, Adriana and I were getting ready for the dance at my house. I was curling her hair while she did her makeup.
"How the hell are you so good at doing hair?" She asked me as she applied her blush. "You live with two guys. Who the hell do you have to practice on?"
"Well, I mostly have had to practice on myself and you. But you seriously should see the kickass fishtail braids that Max can do." I told her in complete seriousness.
"No shit!" My female best friend stated in surprise.
"I'm not fucking with you, I swear! That kid has mad braiding skills!" I laughed, wrapping another strand of Adriana's hair around the curling iron. "Don't tell him that I told you that or he will murder me in my sleep."
"I believe it." She chuckled, putting on eye shadow.
"Alright, you are all done!" I cheered, clapping my hands in victory.
"I swear if you don't turn heads at this thing, all my faith in humanity will be lost!" I joked, making her laugh. "Seriously, Adri, you look stunning!"
"Right back at you, girl! Noah's going to flip his shit!" The tan girl teased with a grin. My cheeks went bright red at the thought of my date.
"Shut up, you look like a fucking goddess." I argued.
"We are pretty hot aren't we?" She said confidently.
"Hell yeah, we are!" I cheered as I gave the curly haired brunette a high five.
There was a knock on my bedroom door and I heard the voice of my uncle on the other side. "Everyone decent in there?"
"Yeah, Uncle Ben, we're both decent." I laughed at the older man's antics. The door opened, revealing Max and our uncle coming in.
"You both look great!" Ben told us with a grin.
"You look beautiful, sis." Max told me with a smile as he gave me a hug, careful to not mess up my hair or makeup.
"Thank you, Maxie, it means a lot." I told the younger boy, wrapping my arms around his small frame and planting a kiss on the top of his head.
"It really does, she's been on the verge of an anxiety attack for a past hour about it." Adriana told them with a chuckle, making me roll my eyes.
"Noah is going to be speechless when he sees how stunning you look." Uncle Ben told me, making me gape at him.
"Did you guys tell him?" I asked Max and Adriana with a look of shock.
"We said nothing." Adri told me, making Max nod in agreement with his hands up in defense.
"It's a little obvious with the way the two of you are around each other. I've known for years." Ben informed me with a smile.
"Seriously!" I groaned, throwing my head back in embarrassment. Did everyone know about my crush on Noah?
The doorbell rang and I started to feel nervous again, knowing that that was Noah. I sent an anxious look to the three people in the room with me.
"You two finish getting ready, Max and I will stall him." My uncle told us, sending me a wink and heading down the stairs with my little brother.
Adriana and I grabbed our things, putting them in our clutches. She went down first, leaving me alone in my room.
"You've got this, Athena." I muttered to myself as I grabbed my black clutch and made my way down the stairs.
I kept my gaze on my feet, making sure that I didn't fall down the stairs in my heels. I was halfway down the stairs, when I heard Noah say a breathy 'woah'.
I looked up from my feet to see Noah looking at me with wide eyes. The other three people in the foyer had smirks on their faces that very clearly stated 'I told you so'.
"Hi." I stated quickly, taking a moment to look at what Noah was wearing. He wore a black tuxedo with a royal blue tie. In his hands he held a clear plastic box, which held a blue rose corsage with a black lace band.
"Hi." He stammered, as I met him at the bottom of the stairs. "You look beautiful— I mean pretty—"
"Thank you, Noah." I chuckled, cutting off his rambling. "You clean up very nicely as well."
"Th–Thanks, I, um, this is for you." The chestnut haired boy told me quickly, holding out the box in his hand.
I heard my uncle chuckle quietly, as Max muffled his laughter with his hand and Adriana face palmed. I bit down on my lip to hold back my own amused laugh.
Noah must have realized his mistake, because he quickly took the corsage out of the box, sticking the clear container under his arm, and preparing the small wrist accessory.
I let out a quiet chuckle and held out my arm. The lanky boy slipped the corsage on to my wrist with a dorky grin.
"Alright, I want you kids to have fun." Uncle Ben started, before Max cut him off. "But not too much fun!"
This made Adriana crack up with laughter as Noah and I just blushed. I tried to hide my embarrassment with an eyeroll, ushering the other two teenagers out the door.
"Bye, guys! I'll see you both later!"

When the three of us entered the crowded gym, the sound of chattering teens and loud music filled our ears.
The new girl Hannah Andrews was singing and playing her guitar up on the stage. She was really good, there was no denying that. The curly haired blonde was my table partner in AP Anatomy and she was really nice.
When she saw us she gave me a big grin as a greeting. I smiled and waved at her, before giving her a supportive thumbs up to tell her that she was doing a great job.
"I'm going to scout out the snack table! Have fun!" Adriana told us, before walking off.
"Wanna dance?" I asked Noah, nodding my head in the direction of the dance floor.
"Sure."
