Chapter 46
Hannah
Wedding Day
I jumped out of bed as the alarm went off next to me, falling on the floor with a thud. Rubbing my eyes sleepily, I remembered today's date.
"Wake up! Wake up! I'm late for my wedding Jules!" I shouted, jumping on Jules and shaking her softly until I saw her finally open her eyes.
″What is wrong with you? Why are you waking me up at this ungodly hour?″
″It's my wedding today and I'm going to be late so come on." I ordered, getting back off the bed and running into her bathroom.
″Hannah, it's only seven in the morning. You're supposed to be there at eleven and it doesn't start until eleven-thirty." Jules replied, pulling the blanket back over her.
"Oh, well... get up still. We have things to do, lady. Call your overly expensive stylists over, hairdressers, all of them. Get them over here now."
Jules groaned and when I turned around she was making a choking sign with her hands and was acting as if she was about to choke me, saying, "I am so glad he is taking you now. You are a forever walking disaster." She gets up." At least I can say there is never a dull day with you."
"Ah, but you know you love me."
" Whatever. I'm going to go check on Lilly and get a shot. I'm going to need it for the day ahead of me." She responded, walking into my old room, where we had laid Lilly in her crib for the night.
While she was gone, I took a shower, brush my teeth, and fix my hair a bit before the stylist arrived. At every step, I was giddy. I just couldn't wait for those glittery bombs to irritate me.
~~~
"Okay, well, just put it in a ponytail or something and call it a day. You're pulling my hair out!" I complained to the hairdresser. They had already painted my toenails white, acrylics white, and applied makeup, all the while Jules sat on the couch playing with Lily who was already dressed.
"Why did you choose black and white for your wedding?" Jules asked as the hairdresser completely ignored my suggestion.
" I don't know. I had little time and it was easier to get the clothes for bridesmaids. White, black, and gold are the easiest. And speaking of bridesmaids shouldn't they be here?"
"Never thought I would hear you say that sentence. And yeah, Ruby said she's on her way. Monica A said she was just going to meet you at the venue, and Lisa, the other Monica, and the rest of the girls aren't responding."
"I guess it makes sense, since I can't get dressed until we get there, I guess you can tell everyone to just meet us there. What are you wearing anyway?"
" Glad you asked. Since I am the maid of honor, this was a very hard decision, but I have went with a mixture of all of them. White, Gold, and Black dress."
"Geez, Jules don't outshine the bride." I joke.
" I could never."
"And done." The hairdresser says, adding the last pluck.
"Oh my god. Your hair looks human. It's not that bird's nest you call a bun anymore." Jules said, gasping as she looks at my hair.
I stood up from the chair they had me in and walked over to the nearest mirror. As soon as I looked at myself, it was like I was looking at a completely different person. I didn't have any eye boogers, acne, or cheese from the other night like when I had first woke up. Instead, my hair was in an elegant low bun and it was kind of like a crown, and actually had a tiny tiara at the top.
"Wow, this must be magical makeup or something. I... wow."
″Okay, I'm here. Bridesmaid dress is on and ready to get this show on the road!" Ruby shouts, running into the living room with her dress on and flowers in hand.
″I have to hand it to you, Jules. You know how to pick a bridesmaid dress.'' I stated, looking at ruby's dress. It was an all-white, short lace dress.
″Right? I absolutely killed this dress shopping.″
″Wow, Hannah, you look amazing. All that's needed to top it off is the dress." Ruby compliments as she looks me over.
″Speaking of the dress we need to get to the venue,″ I ordered, picking up my purse, shoes, and Lilly's car seat.
Jules, ruby, and the stylists followed me to Jules's car. Throwing everything in the front seat and Lilly's car seat next to ruby and the other women in the back, I sat down in the front next to Jules.
While she started the car, I took the count. "Ruby and stylists? Check. Jules? Check. Shoes? Check. Lilly's car seat? Check. Lilly? Not check.″
″Wait what?″ Jules asked.
″Oh, no I just forgot Liliana in the house.″
″Hannah, get your daughter!″
″Oh, right″ I hopped out of the car and ran in to get Lilly. Thankfully, she was waking up as I put her in.
″We are not telling your father this,″ I whispered, putting her in the car seat and getting back in the front.
″Ready?"
″Yep."
*Skipping car ride*
″Okay, Sit Lilly out there next to Tyler and tell him if he tries to fuck with her I'll choke him in his sleep." I threatened, passing her to Lisa.
″Will do.″ She answers, walking out.
″Okay then. Let's get this dress on me.″
When I put the dress on, it looks as gorgeous as it did the other day. It filled in all the right curves, even if there were only a few.
"You look stunning, girl," Jules said as I stood in front of the mirror. All the bridesmaids, guests, pastor, groomsmen, had arrived. Now the bridesmaids stood behind me in their dresses.
"Thank you. What time is it?"
"Eleven on the dot."
"Okay, you guys all look beautiful, but I need all of you to pair up and walk down the aisle with one of those groomsmen."
"Okay love you." Everyone says as they walk out. Everyone except Jules.
"You too, weirdo," I said, pushing her out of the door.
"I'm just worried about you. Usually, a bride pukes her soul out when she's about to get married. But you're so calm."
" Well, first I am not a usual woman, Jules."
"You're right about that."
"Second, I am very nervous. In fact, in the middle of taking a shower, I puked four times. It could have been all the tacos we ate the other night, but who knows. My point is, although I'm nervous, I'm still thrilled to be marrying Al. So I let that outweigh the nervousness."
"See, that's one reason why I'm never getting married. I will not mess up this beautiful face for a man."
" Whatever you say. Now seriously, get the hell out, so I can practice my vows, damn it."
" Okay, okay, I'm walking."
Michael
I adjusted my tie as I waited for them to walk down the aisle.
Tyler and Lisa went first.
George and Ruby went second.
Matt and Monica went third.
Andrew and Taylor went next.
Blondy and David went 5th.
And I walked alone last. When I got up there Tyler asked, "Nervous?″
″Little bit." I answered sarcastically.
″You should be. You're about to marry a princess.″
″A queen man, a queen.″
The song,′ Here comes the bride' plays and everyone waits for Hannah to walk down the aisle but no one comes. After a while, they stopped the music.
″Don't worry bro, I got this," David whispers before I could worry.
"We're having some issues, should be out shortly!″ he yells before running off.
Hannah
″Uh, shrimpy, what the actual fuck?" David blurted, opening the door.
Everyone was waiting for me and I had just stood there.
″I just expected Daniel to walk me. You know your dad should do it, right?″
He sighed and blew a breath before responding, "Oh, thank god. I thought you were thinking of ditching, my man. It's just that though, right? That's the problem?″
″Yeah.″
″Oh, then come on dummy,″ he said, walking out of the door and close to the aisle.
″Huh? What are you doing?″ I called out, following behind.
″Easy. I'm walking you down the aisle.″
″Really?″
″Yep."′
″Aww thank you, idiot. Let me put my shoes on. ″I reply, lifting my dress and running back into the room. I wanted to feel at least a little like myself, so I brought my white air forces. Jules would kill me if she saw the shoes I was wearing. Good thing I wasn't going to tell her.
″You ready, shrimpy?″ he asks, wrapping his arm around mine.
″Wait."I blurt out and run to D.J.
″Play At last, by Etta James instead of that boring here comes the bride one when we walk down okay?″
″You got it, Hannah."
″Thank you." I say, running back to David and wrapping my arm around his.
I smile wide and respond,″ Ready as I'll ever be.″
As we walk, the music plays and I instantly see my handsome husband-to-be. He has on an all-black suit and tie underneath an all-white dress shirt and matching white forces like me.
″You look like a gorgeous bag of shit,″ David says as I make it to the altar.
″Thank you. You do too.″I respond as he lets me go.
I pass the bouquet to Jules and turn around. I think I see a tear roll down Micheal's eyes as David(The pastor) tells us to hold hands.
″You look perfect baby," he whispers.
″You as well.″
″Alright, love birds, enough with the chit chat. Let's get this thing started.″David says pulling a small bible from his coat pocket and opening it.
″Dear friends and family, we are gathered here today to witness and union of Shrimpy, I mean Hannah Lilliana Brown and Michael Kai Capone, in marriage. With love and commitment, they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife.
″This is the serious I've heard you talk."I say, shocked.
″Shut the hell up. Love should have no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if your love and needs must have desires, let these be your desires: to melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love and the compassion that love brings. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude and loving embrace; Then to sleep with a vision of the beloved in your heart and a song of love in your dreams. You may now cite your vows.″
Before Michael says anything, I speak, ″Micheal, I choose you and promise to choose you as my husband every day we wake. I will love you in word and deed. I will laugh with you, cry with you, scream with you, grow with you, and craft with you. To be your kin and your partner in all of life's adventures is all I could hope for in the world. Loving what I know of you and trusting what I don't yet know, I give you my hand. I give you my love. I give you myself, the good, the bad, and the yet to come. Because of you, I can feel myself, slowly but surely becoming the me I have always dreamed of being. You were my boss, my friend, my hookup, crush, my boyfriend, my fiance, and most of all the creepy guy that stole my underwear.″ I say, smiling and tears rolling down. And everyone chuckles.
Now actually having tears, Micheal speaks,″5 years ago, you couldn't have told me I would get married today, let alone to someone as beautiful, caring, understanding, thoughtful and so much more than you. Hannah, when we first met, I never imagined this day would come, but now that we are here, I couldn't have imagined choosing anyone else but you to go through life's journey with. I love your laugh, your smile, your caring nature, and how you will fall when no one or anything is there. I promise to support you, to honor you, and to love you unconditionally, even when we may disagree on something. Like whether the last episode of Criminal Minds or Monday Night Football is more important to watch. I can't imagine where I would be without you, and I cannot wait to continue this crazy journey with you by my side. I love you."
″I promise if there's only one burger left, I'll let you have it,″ I say.
″I promise to put you first and love you even when you are a walking disaster half the time.″
″Do you, Hannah Lilliana Brown, take Michael Kai Capone to be your lawfully wedded husband, promising to love and cherish, through joy and sorrow, sickness and health, and whatever challenges you may face, for as long as you both shall live?″
″I do."
″Do you, Michael Kai Capone, take Hannah Lilliana Brown, to be your lawfully wedded wife, promising to love and cherish, through joy and sorrow, sickness and health, and whatever challenges you may face, for as long as you both shall live?″
″I do.″
″Jules the rings." I say as everyone waits for her to give us the rings.
She doesn't answer.
″Jules, the rings!″
″Oh right, here sorry,″ she answers, zoning back in and handing us the rings.
″I give you this ring, a symbol of my love, as I give to you all that I am, and accept from you, all that you are″ Michael says, slipping the ring on my finger.
″I give you this ring, a symbol of my love, as I give to you all that I am, and accept from you all that you are. ″ I say, slipping the ring on his finger.
″And now, by the power vested in me by the state of Idaho, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. Y-"
Before David finishes, Michael grabs me by the neck and kisses me passionately. ″I love you, wife.″ Micheal said, sweeping me off my feet and carrying me bridal style.
″I love you, husband.″
Everyone shouts and whistles, throwing up flowers as Michael carried me to our table.
"Let eat, I am starving!" Michael shouts, slowly placing me in my chair. The venue was divided. On one side were the chairs in rows for people to watch the ceremony, and on the other side were tables that had white table sheets. There were about two medium length tables and two long tables. Al and I sat at the beginning of the table. Lilly and Caden were strapped into the car seats and just watching the show.
Everyone made their way over and chose a seat. Since the caterer I had hired was here, we began eating. Brick and I were laughing and smiling as I tried to put a piece of shrimp in his mouth, when someone clinked their glass with a fork. I stopped what I was doing and looked up to see it was Jules.
"Excuse me, excuse me, I would like to make a toast!" she yells and everyone falls silent.
"I love this one with all my heart." "And that son of a bitch there," she says, pointing to Michael. "I hate him but I respect him."
Michael rolls his eyes but I could see a small smile forming across his face.
"He changed my girl, for the better. I went from helping her get eggs out of her hair, to helping her find a wedding dress. I remember this one time-"
"And you can give me that mic now, Jules," I interrupt jokingly.
″Okay, okay, I won't spill that. But honestly, that bastard Michael Capone, he saved Hannah. She became a fierce, independent woman. I'm not talking about looks. I'm talking about how she can now stand up for herself. She doesn't take any shit from anyone. She can walk inside of a building in a room of people she has never seen and not shake like hell. Yes, she still may be scared to order her own food or ask for more ketchup or even talk to people without having to ask for backup, but at least she tries. And what I'm trying to say is, Micheal, I love you for that. You were the one to make this happen. The smile that comes across her face when she sees you. When she talks about you, she just glows. Before she met you, it was rare to see her smile. But now I can never get that stupid smile off her face. And it's a beautiful thing to see. My best friend, no, my sister, is happy now, and I thank you for that."She says and sits down as everyone claps.
I walk over to her and give her a hug. We hug for a while and I have to prevent myself from crying. When I sit down, Michael gives her a salute.
Since Jules gave a speech, everyone looks to the best man. David is not paying attention and is still eating spaghetti until he finally realizes we're staring at him.
"I guess it's my time to shine." He stands up. Jules tries to hand him the mic, but he shakes his head. "All those who know shrimpy know she is a caring and wonderful woman who deserves a husband. Thank God Michael married her before she found him."
We all burst into laughter.
"Michael Capone was once a selfish, arrogant, rich playboy. Now, every time that short klutz walks in the room this guy smiles like a kid at a candy shop." He shakes his head, laughing."There is no doubt Shrimpy makes him a better man. To the bride and the groom!", He shouts, lifting his glass, and everyone claps and takes a sip.
Michael gives him a hug and we all get back to eating. Sometime later, when everyone has finished eating and are talking, I get up, shouting "I'm throwing the bouquet!"
All the bridesmaids and Jules get behind me. Closing my eyes and praying for my life, I toss it back. Not even 30 seconds later I turn around and Jules is on Monica's back, snatching the bouquet.
"It's mine, you bitch!"
She successfully grabs the bouquet, stands up, dusts off her dress, and walks away as everyone stands in shock.
"Jules, I thought you said you weren't getting married?" I ask following behind her.
" I'm not, I just really wanted to win."
" I- It's not even that-" I stop trying to figure out Jules and shake my head."Congratulations girl."
"Thank you." She replies, smiling happily.
~~~
Sometime later, after I have danced with half the people in the room, I dance with Daniel, who has finally arrived. "I'm sorry I was late, dear. Your mom had some errands to run, but I could make it. I'm sorry she couldn't be here."
"It's fine. I'm kind of used to you guys bailing. "
"I know, and we're going to do everything to get back in your life. Everything." He says and kisses my forehead.
"We'll see about that. Give me my damn wife." Michael buts in and Daniel passes me to him.
"She's all yours," Daniel says, walking off.
"Micheal, he's trying." I say as he puts his hands around my waist and starts to slow dance.
"I know.I just want what's best for you. Now, what do you say we sneak out of here for a while?"
" Brick, it's our own wedding!"
"Just for a couple of hours," he responds, smirking.
Not being able to resist his charm, I agree. "Fine. Only because I love you."
