Chapter 4: Setting off and The Three Temples

As we exited the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, I needed to tell everyone something. But Paimon spoke first.

Paimon: From now on, our adventures are going to get more and more dangerous, so let's prepare first.

Patrick: Paimon's right. Before we all go to the temples, I suggest that we all gear up first. In other words, I suggest that we all get some gear like more weapons, enchantments, potions, armor, spells, and enhancement items. Adventurers need to first get supplies before heading off.

Kiana: But do we even have the money to get all that?

Patrick: Have a look at your inventories.

The girls checked their inventories and saw money stashed inside their inventories. And they were all shocked at the amount of money that was in their inventories. Then I showed mine too.

Patrick: Didn't think I would let us start with nothing did you? We always need currency to get stuff adventurers need. This type of currency is called Mora. Now let's head on over to the blacksmiths and shops to see what we can find.

Paimon: We could start by going to Mondstadt's blacksmith.

Patrick: That's actually a good idea.

We headed on over to the blacksmiths and shops to find what we need. First we went to the blacksmiths to get new weapons and upgrades.

Paimon: There's the blacksmith!

We headed on over to the blacksmith, Wagner.

Wagner: What?

Aether: We're looking for new weapons.

Wagner: Over there. Take your pick. Or, if you need something else I can make it on request.

Paimon: Wow, he does bespoke weaponry...

Wagner: Of course. I sell weapons, make them to order, and do refinements. All in the job description for a blacksmith. All you need is the ore.

Aether: Where can we get ore from?

Wagner: Anywhere. Everywhere. You look confused. Listen, I'll tell you where the nearest deposits are. Bring some back and I'll help you forge what you need.

Aether: Great. Thanks!

Wagner: No need. I have other things to do.

Paimon: He seems like a short-tempered guy... Was it something we said?

Patrick: I don't think so. Let's head on over to the shops now. We'll come back once we have some ore.

Then we went to the shops.

First we went to a shop that had spell scrolls and spell books. We got a few scrolls and books but Bronya got more than us since she was now a priestess and a magus. Then we went to one with adventurer clothing. The girls tried on a lot of dresses and took longer than me and Aether. Then we went to a pastry shop. Kiana's eyes and Paimon's eyes had stars in them because of all the pastries. We went to more shops to find what we could need.

When the montage music ended we ended up at a potion shop last.

We each got healing potions and potions that cure different things like poison.

Kiana: Wow. Look at all these potions. There's one that gives invisibility, one that gives extra strength, and one that gives extra intelligence.

Seele: This one can make people float and this one can give people fire resistance.

(Later)

After making the purchases we were walking out the gate then stopped at the end of the bridge to the open world.

Paimon: Ok, now that we have everything we need, we can finally set off.

Patrick: We are perfectly prepared. Boy, this brings me back memories when Bronya and I were in Dirac. Right Bronya?

Bronya: Right. Subject Patrick and the Bronya were at this pastry shop for tea and pastries to go and information before we set off.

Kiana: There is no time to tell stories. We have to go!

Patrick: Ok, ok, Kiana. Let's go!

Then there was a freeze from of us running off to the first temple.

(First temple)

We met Amber at the first temple.

Amber: This is it. One of the deserted temples of The Four Winds. These temples have been left to waste for years now. The people of Mondstadt almost never come here. There's a chance there's a monster nest or a hilichurl camp inside. Even Stormterror has given up on its own temple.

Aether: Wait, did you just say "its own temple...?"

Amber: ...Yes. I also find it hard to accept, but... Stormterror was once one of The Four Winds.

Paimon: Ehhhh!?

Amber: Wait... Did you just feel that? The wind here... Something's off... Let's go in and take a look, travelers. Be careful, the dragon's power is disturbing this area.

We walked up to the stone doors then the red lines turned blue and opened up. Then we walked inside where there was a console to open another door.

Amber: You can use that console to open the door.

Aether touched the console then the door opened

Amber: Wow! I can see so far into the temple!

Kiana: So can I! It's really big and wide!

Patrick in mind: Now we're in the temple of the falcon. Mostly everyone is excited to be here.

Amber cleared the way with her Pyro magic then we activated the door of resurrection. Then the Valkyries and I gave the Elemental Sight a try with Aether. We saw a hilichurl at the bottom floor. We let Amber take it out with her fire arrows then we jumped down to the bottom floor but then a horn sounded out.

Amber: Oh no! A horn! The fighting must have gotten them riled up. Well, good thing I've prepared my secret weapon: Explosive Puppet "Baron Bunny"!

A bunch of hilichurls appeared at the door then Amber used her secret weapon and made her Explosive Puppet "Baron Bunny" appear which got them distracted then blew them up.

[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]

Patrick in mind: A lot of characters have had their own toys and plushies blow up in front of enemies. Right now I can't think of one. I wonder if...

Before I could continue talking in my mind, Bronya had just summoned a puppet bunny similar to Amber's but resembled HOMU.

Bronya: Explosive Ice Puppet "HOMU"!

Another hilichurl was coming at us but Bronya made the HOMU get in front of it then exploded freezing the hilichurl then Bronya smashed it with her staff.

Amber: Hey! You can't copy me!

Bronya: The Bronya loves bunnies. Especially HOMU.

Patrick: Don't get angry over something getting copy. Like Bronya said, she loves bunnies. She can't really feel emotion and always talks in 3rd person point of view while using "the" before saying her name.

Patrick in mind: This feels like Mile copying Reina's move in episode 2 of "Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!"

As soon as Amber calmed down we went up to the gate but stopped so the hilichurls won't notice us.

Amber: Are those explosive barrels over there?

Patrick: Looks like it.

Amber: Well... One shot should be able to blow them up!

Kiana: Go ahead.

Amber aimed at the barrels then fired her shot and the barrels blew up most of the hilichurls before we took them all out in a matter of seconds. We went out another door and saw the tall building where the power was coming from.

Amber: It's so high... Seems like there's something up there.

Paimon: But how do we get across? Isn't this... a Pyro Monument? If we hit it with a powerful Pyro attack, we might trigger it!

Amber used a powerful Pyro attack and a wind current appeared. We took out our Wind Gliders then glided to the other side where we found it.

Amber: Dragon's breath! Is that where the power is coming from?

Bronya: It is.

Amber: Great. Let's smash it!

All at once, we smashed it.

Amber: Phew, I'm tired. But at least this way we've helped Jean out. In the past, we were at least able to defend the city and keep it safe. This of course, is mostly thanks to Jean. But now with Stormteror directly attacking the city itself... "The winds change, so too should our tactics."

Aether: Sounds deep.

Amber: It's what Lisa likes to say. Speaking of which The Four Winds we were discussing earlier... If you want to learn more about our history, you can ask Lisa.

Seele: Sure thing we will.

Amber: ...I'm not saying I don't know our history! It's just... I mean... A librarian is supposed to be more knowledgeable than an Outrider, right?

Kiana: You probably don't want to because you don't want to talk so long...

Mei silenced Kiana once again.

Mei: Don't make it worse.

As soon as we exited the temple, Amber headed back to Mondstadt then we headed for the second temple.

Patrick: Bronya? Once we gain the other elements like Pyro, are you going to make an explosive HOLA also and mix elements with the other characters from HOMU?

Bronya: The Bronya will.

Patrick in mind: I guess before fighting against Dvalin I should do some training with Toriyama with flying around Teyvat like flight training with Hiccup and Toothless.

Drago: You should.

But before going to the second temple, we needed to go somewhere first. A Statue of The Seven in the field underneath a giant tree.

Paimon: It's a Statue of The Seven! Let's make an offering and see if the gods respond!

When we touched it, it glowed blue. Then when we offered up an Anemoculus and then the statue flashed a bright light. At somewhere else, a wind current started coming out of a hole.

Paimon: Can you feel the blessings of The Seven? In Mondstadt, people refer to the consolidated wind as Anemoculi. They're called this because they can be fitted into the statue's eyes. Some fairy tales say the statues' eyes originally had gems that were taken by swallows. But Anemoculi never had a physical form from the start.

Patrick: Taken by swallows? That reminds me of this story I read called "The Happy Prince" where this statue had a swallow give his gold and gems to the poor people. The statue was really generous to the poor and so was the swallow.

Paimon: People with Visions collect them to offer to the statues in exchange for blessings.

Everyone: Visions?

Paimon: Unlike others with powers, you all don't have Visions. But then the rules of this world don't apply to you all anyway so... Keep offering Anemoculi, and maybe you'll receive more blessings!

Patrick: And what do Visions look like?

Paimon: They're gems and look what's on you.

Patrick in mind: Do we have these gems? Better check.

The Valkyries and I checked ourselves and found visions on us. I had the Pyro Vision on my adventurer shirt, Kiana had the Cryo Vision on top of the lines over her chest between the sword and the cross, Mei had the Electro Vision attached to her hair knot by her face, Bronya had the Cryo Vision on her ribbon instead of the HOMU ornament, and Seele had the Hydro Vision around her skirt. Aether didn't have a Vision gem of Anemo.

Patrick in mind: I don't remember much about Visions from the beta tests so now I had to give ourselves Visions.

(Second temple)

We met up with Kaeya at the second temple.

Kaeya: You've arrived. Come closer. Can you smell that?

Aether: ...I can't smell anything.

Mei: Enemies?

Kaeya: Something must have happened in the temple. I imagine there will be slimes, hilichurls, and... whatever is giving Stormterror extra power. Oh yes, it is going to be lively in there indeed!

Patrick: Excited to fight against them I see. So are we.

Aether: No doubt nothing more than a disorderly mob of creatures.

Kaeya: Oh, ho-ho! You're quite the brave ones, aren't you!

Kiana: We are! We've been fighting against monsters for years now!

Kaeya: It's a pity that the Temple of the Wolf has been disturbed by such an atrocity. Let's head in, travelers. No-one makes offerings to The Four Winds anymore, yet the old winds never vanish... We need to clear out the temples, for The Four Winds.

Like before, the glowing doors changed from red to blue then opened up for us.

As we walked in, we took in the sights of the temple.

Kaeya: Let me show you how the Knights of Favonius conquer our adversaries.

Kiana: and let us show you how we take care of our enemies.

Patrick: Don't get competitive.

As we walked into a chamber, we saw hilichurls down below.

Kaeya: Hmm. If I'm not mistaken, the end of the temple should be up there.

Paimon: Wait... How do you know?

Kaeya: Heh, experience. ...The kind of experience you get after years of dealing with things like this for others.

Patrick: Right. Bronya freeze the water.

Bronya: On it...

Kaeya: Let me do it.

Kaeya jumped down then did a drop attack with Cryo then froze all the hilichurls before he took most of them out while more broke out and attacked.

Patrick: Showoff. But let's just get in there.

I took out a sword and a shield to change tactics while Kiana took out a lance and a sword then we jumped down and took out all the hilichurls.

Kaeya: Travelers... Unless I'm mistaken, don't seem to have a Vision. So how exactly is it that you're able to channel elemental energy.

Paimon: It was a very strange occurrence... phenomenon... something strange happened.

Paimon suddenly started mumbling like trying to say something she didn't know how to say.

Patrick: We actually don't know.

Now we kept going and then Kaeya used his Cryo energy to disable the flamethrowers. Whenever slimes appeared we left the fighting to Kiana, Bronya, and Kaeya. We got to another wind current.

Paimon: Ugh, finally... we're here.

Kaeya: Seems the path ends here. Let's use the wind currents to fly up.

We did that then got to the top where there was another door with a console to open. We touched it then the door opened. Inside were fire slimes. And a stone with water.

Paimon: Water! We can use this to put out fire!

Kaeya: Good idea. That's some keen observation. We should get Jean to give you titles and make you knights.

Patrick: Yeah we should.

Patrick in mind: Considering that I'm already a knight and the girls are Valkyries but we'll take it.

I took out my own crossbow then infused an arrow with Anemo then shot at the stone which released water to damage the fire slimes.

Patrick: Seele, go!

Seele: You got it big brother!

Seele charged in with her scythe infused with Hydro and started taking care of the slimes Then Bronya, Kiana, and Kaeya helped her and then all the slimes were gone.

Patrick: Good job, Seele. You are very brave just like you were in the Sea of Quanta.

Seele blushed.

Seele: Thank you for your praise, big brother Patrick.

Now we went to another chamber where in he water, were spikes. Kaeya froze the water for us to get across.

Kaeya: Speaking of, did you know?

Aether: Know what?

Kaeya: Stormterror was once one of The Four Winds.

Patrick: Yes actually, Amber told us while in the Temple of The Falcon.

Kaeya: I'm to aware of the exact details. If you're interested, you can ask the Acting Grand Master about it.

Bronya: We will.

We entered through a door that opened by itself and inside was another stone.

Paimon: Is that the thing that Stormterror is using to gain its power?

Kaeya: Seems probable. Let's deal with it.

In an instant we destroyed it.

Kaeya: Bravo! What a performance! You are, to my surprise, well-trained knights.

Patrick: Yeah, we've been training since we were younger.

Kaeya: The battles you all just fought were sights to behold.

Aether: Thanks, that's nice of you to say...

Kayea: Haha, I see you already have the knightly virtue of modesty. Stories of your heroic deeds to save Mondstadt from destruction shall be known throughout the City of Freedom, well into the future. Please do visit me at our headquarters when you have the time.

Mei: Sure thing we will. We just have to get settled into Mondstadt first.

Kaeya: I also know a lovely tavern, if that's more of your thing.

Kiana: That's more of our teacher's thing but ok.

Kaeya: Quite rewarding, no?

Patrick: Actually it was really rewarding.

Paimon: We've seized another temple from Stormterror's grasp.

Kiana: Just one more temple and Stormterror will be powerless!

Kaeya: I can take care of the rest here. You go take care of other things while I'm at it.

Bronya: The Bronya and everyone will do that.

Seele: Off to the third temple then

Paimon: See you later then, bye-bye~!

The gang and I turned to leave.

Kaeya: There's no way hilichurls organized an ambush like this themselves — not with their limited mental capacity...

An abyss mage was sneaking up behind him but Kaeya took quick notice.

Kaeya: This YOU were behind this.

Abyss Mage: Gohus, Chiso Vonph!

Before it could attack Kaeya, a Pyro attack came out of nowhere and hit the Abyss Mage. Then a man came in and beats up the Abyss Mage. It was Diluc.

Diluc: Knights of Favonius... Always so inefficient.

Kaeya: Agree to disagree. But your involvement in this just made things a whole lot more interesting.

(Outside)

As we were walking to the last temple, Kiana asked me something without Aether or Paimon noticing.

Kiana: Have you done your first 10 Gacha yet?

Patrick: I have. Right after we left the Knights of Favonius headquarters. And this is what I got.

Kiana: Wow, you actually managed to get Barbara on the first try and Noelle too.

Patrick: I did, so there will be no need for me to get to adventure rank 20 in a hurry to get Barbara.

Getting to the third temple was taking a while. We fought any monsters we encountered which lead us too this wind current around some ruins just like I remembered from the beta test videos. We took out our Wind Gliders and rode the wind current up over the cliffs where we saw Lisa and the third temple.

Mei: There it is.

(Third temple)

We got to the third temple and met with Lisa.

Lisa: Hey cuties. You're going to help me out too? How kind of you.

Patrick: Yes we are. We already helped Amber and Kaeya with the other two temples and now only this one is left.

Even though my heart was beating fast, I spoke normal.

Lisa: Don't hesitate to come to me if you need anything.

Bronya: We accept your offer, Ms. Lisa.

Aether: What kind of things does a librarian do?

Lisa: Good question. Basically, things other than that which requires brawn... or brains.

Paimon: So... what does that leave?

Lisa didn't answer and just went up the the stone doors which we followed and the something happened. Now we were in the Temple of the Lion.

Now we were going to fight with Lisa.

Lisa: I guess I could give this a go.

Patrick in mind: She could give lessons to Marisa and Patchouli.

There was a tall building on the other side.

Lisa: I knew it. There is a strong elemental energy coming from deep within this temple. Paimon, are you able to float across?

Paimon: Can't do much even if she does. Good point. We'd better start looking for a way to get up there then. Let's ride this wind current, shall we?

Kiana: Yes, let's do that.

We rode up the wind current and got to the higher floor. Then we touched a console and got a door open. Down the hallway was a fire slime. I was gonna ask Seele to get it but Lisa went up first.

Lisa: Leave it to me.

Patrick: Be our guest Lisa.

We stepped back and let Lisa take care of the slime with her Electro magic. We followed behind her till we stopped in a chamber where there was a monument.

Lisa: It's an electro monument. No wonder. Let me try to activate it with a bit of Electro power. Stand back, sweeties.

We nodded our heads yes and let Lisa activate the monument. Then a bunch of fire slimes appeared but Lisa took care of them with no problem.

Kiana: She's really charming like Auntie Himeko.

Patrick: A lot of witches and sorceress' from Anime and Video Games are always charming. Makes a lot of players fall in love with them. Makes me wonder how someone would react if they were asked out on a date with her.

Then we followed her to another room where there were hilichurls on water. Lisa used Electro on the water and electrocuted all the hilichurls taking them out. Then the door opened.

Lisa: When it comes to Wet enemies, I've got them covered.

Patrick: Yes you do. When someone uses electricity with water, they take out all enemies in water.

Lisa: Excellent point, Patrick sweetie.

My heart was beating faster again and I blushed. On the other side of the door was another wind current.

Lisa: Oh, another wind current. Let's ride it up from here.

We rode up the wind current and got to the top. There we opened another door and ended up in another chamber with water and more hilichurls. Mei jumped down then used her Electro powers combined with her sword techniques. Then Lisa jumped down and electrocuted the enemies to help Mei. Then the rest of us jumped down after they took care of all the enemies.

Lisa: Chain lightning can be set off between Electro-Charged opponents. The electrical discharge caused by friction is only a little less shocking than love at first sight.

Patrick: You don't say.

Now we stepped out to see floating platforms. As we went across the platform, we asked Lisa about the Vision gem she had on.

Lisa: Oh, you want to know more about this gem?

Patrick: We don't know much about them.

Lisa: You're kidding... You're seriously asking? This is a Vision. It's used by the chosen to draw on elemental powers. In terms of mysticism, I suppose you could call it a "magical lightning rod." What... You've never seen a Vision? Just where exactly are you all from...?

Kiana: Somewhere far that doesn't know about Visions.

We finally got to the tall building.

Lisa: Are you all hilichurls with some level of reasonable intelligence? No. I doubt it. After all, hilichurls aren't exactly known for their smarts. And you, you'd more or less qualify to be a magister's apprentice.

Patrick: I think we do qualify to be someone's apprentice. Considering that I'm already an apprentice to a dragon.

Lisa: Wait? What did you just say?

Patrick: I said that I'm an apprentice of a fifty thousand year old dragon. It's kind of like in fairytales. Surprising isn't it? But I will tell my tale once I feel like it. We still have one thing to do.

We finally got to the stone.

Lisa: Break it and we can head home and relax. The thought of putting my feet up and relaxing has me all fired up!

At the same time we destroyed it.

Lisa: Dragon of the East, Lion of the South, Wolf of the North, Falcon of the West... They are the Four Winds of Mondstadt, affiliated with Barbatos, the God of Anemo. The Dragon of the East, Stormterror — its real name, is Dvalin. Though most in Mondstadt seem to have forgotten that in all this "Stormterror" business. So now you know why Dvalin is only able to channel three of the Four Winds' powers. Because it has been consuming itself from the beginning.

Aether: Why?

Lisa: Because of hatred, I presume.

Paimon Hatred...?

Lisa: Hatred for Mondstadt. Hatred drove it to become something more powerful than the wind itself — to become Stormterror.

Paimon: But why would one of The Four Winds... Hate the city it was supposed to protect?

Lisa: ... As a child of Mondstadt it's something that's really hard to say aloud. Here, take this. It's a very old story from more than a century ago.

Lisa handed us a book which Aether took in his hands.

Paimon: Well... You should come with me, Paimon'll tell you about the rest later.

Patrick: Our job is done here, let's go back to Mondstadt.
