Chapter 35: Mondstadt's Strongest Fighter and True Treasure
(Patrick's point of view)
Being back in Mondstadt was great. Bronya was being Lisa's personal assistant again with helping Lisa at the Library. The Captain was also helping them at the library since he was attracted to her. Kallen liked patrolling Mondstadt at night as Rogue Extraordinare. When ever she saw Abyss Mages, she got rid of them and helped cover Diluc's tracks. Sakura set up a shop stand selling potions and medicine to the locals of Mondstadt with Higokumaru. Himeko was working at Diluc's tavern and a lot of the adventurers and other people were attracted to her. Theresa was doing volunteer work at the Cathedral with Barbara. Even Kallen sometimes does volunteer work at the Cathedral. The rest of us, Me, Kiana, Mei, Fu Hua, and Seele were doing quests, requests, and commissions for the Adevnturers' Guild and for the Knights of Favonius. Seele sometimes helps at the Library with Bronya. When ever Seele does guild work, she would need me or Bronya with her.
(Mondstadt, night)
After a long day of questing, we were going to Diluc's Tavern for a meal. We only consisted of me, Aether, Paimon, Kiana, Mei, Bronya, Theresa, and Seele. As we were approaching the tavern, we heard someone talking.
Patton: *sigh* Shame I only get to listen in front of the other side of the window and don't get to join in the debate. I'd love to give my two cents...
Paimon: Say what? What's up, what's up? Paimon wants in!
Patton: Recently, all the customers at the tavern have been debating the exact same topic: "Who is the strongest fighter in Mondstadt?"
Everyone: The strongest fighter?
Paimon: Must be someone who can floor a whole gang of hilichurls with just one punch!
Patrick in mind: Like Saitama/One Punch Man.
Kiana: Or someone who is overpowered.
Mei: Someone super strong?
Seele: It could be an old person or a young child. That seems unbelievable but always possible.
Patrick: I knew some strong people who were old aged and young aged that were super strong and overpowered.
Aether: There must be far more to it than that.
Paimon: Wow... then it really must be tough to become the strongest of all. But anyway... Is there, like, a general agreement in the city on who it is, or...?
Patton: Hah. Expecting people to come to a swift and straightforward consensus in the City of Freedom is like expecting Fisherman's Toast to drop out of the sky. Everyone's got their own opinion, backed up by a unique set. Of cherry-picked information... But let's be honest, that's what makes the discussion so impassioned and entertaining. Mainstream opinion is polarized, with most people supporting one of two candidates. One is the Dandelion Knight, the other is the Darknight Hero.
Patrick in mind: So either Diluc or Jean.
Aether: Paimon, who are you voting for?
Paimon: Paimon votes for you! What about the rest of you?
Patrick: I think Diluc.
Kiana: Jean.
Mei: Jean.
Seele: Diluc.
Bronya: Diluc.
Theresa: Jean.
Paimon: But let's go into the tavern and talk to the patrons, maybe we'll pick up some juicy gossip.
Patton: Oh, I do envy your life of leisure... But don't mind me, of course. *sigh* I guess I'll just... get back to work.
As we entered into the Tavern, we had to ask the patrons on who the strongest fighter I Mondstadt is. First we asked Charles.
Charles: What'll it be today?
Patrick: We just have something to ask you.
Aether: Who's the strongest fighter in Mondstadt?
Charles: The strongest fighter? I don't pay much attention to that sort of thing...
Paimon: Huh. Paimon thought bartenders had some kind of special information sources.
Aether: Just like they have an exclusive supplier of wine?
Paimon: Exactly! That's what Paimon was getting at.
Charles; I have no involvement in any intelligence-gathering operation. But if you made me pick someone, it would be the Darknight Hero. I've heard some stories about him. Apparently, he once rescued a city dweller from the Abyss Order.
Paimon: there it is — the barman's top secret intelligence! Speaking of the Abyss Order, their minions are really stirring up trouble all over the place, aren't they?
We sat at a table then we asked the other patrons on who the strongest fighter is in Mondstadt. We asked Bruce and he voted on Jean but he was drunk as a skunk as Paimon said herself. Then we asked Jack. His answer was the adventurer — Stanley.
Himeko came with our meals then we asked her.
Himeko: Everyone's been debating on Diluc or Jean.
Patrick: Does Diluc even know?
Himeko: I don't think he does.
When we finished our meal, we asked a bard named Six Fingered José. And his answer was a little girl who wears red. He also told us about how strong this little girl was at the Stormbearer Mountains. Then he told us about how this little girl has a treasure. When we asked for her name, he didn't know.
Patrick: Looks like there is a super powered little girl here in Mondstadt. I knew a lot of super powered little boys and girls in the past.
Kiana: Even Auntie Theresa is super powered. She can even lift up heavy things.
Theresa: I can. Strong enough to throw a Ruin Guardian into the sky.
Patrick: We should ask Master Jean tomorrow.
Theresa: Yeah, we should.
We left the tavern back to the Inn.
(Next day)
We headed to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters to ask Jean. We stepped right into her office.
Paimon: Oh, Master Jean! Sorry to bother you, we're collecting intel on the strongest fighter in Mondstadt. Do you have— Uh, one of those... Official Knights of Favonius–verified ranking table... thingies?
Jean: Strongest fighter in Mondstadt? I am sorry, but I cannot help. I do not have any relevant documentation on that topic...
Paimon: Oh... Well, that sucks.
Theresa: Yeah.
Paimon: Paimon was hoping that one of the Travelers would at least make the top five.
Jean: Hehe. Well, although I do not have the data to make such an assessment, I will say that my faith in our Honorary Knight's abilities has never wavered. Which reminds me... Recently, one of the Abyss Order's Mages has been active near the city, although he is keeping a low profile. If you are staying around Mondstadt, please be on the lookout for danger.
Kiana: You don't have to worry about a thing. We'll keep an eye out for that Abyss Mage.
Jean: Given your... well, high-ranking fighting strengths, I trust you all will be able to help keep the area safe.
Mei: Yes Master Jean, you can trust us to do that.
Paimon: Awesome! After they defeat the Abyss Order, they'll climb up that ranking table faster than they'll climb up all those cliffs!
Aether: Paimon. There is no ranking table.
Paimon: Well, either way, smashing the Abyss Order to bits is the right thing to do.
Jean: Hehe. I like your enthusiasm. It is infectious. But be careful out there.
Theresa: We will.
As we exited out of Jean's office, a little girl was running in a rush towards us then she bumped into us and we all fell back like she did. The little girl was in red clothing, a red hat, and had a backpack. She even had elven ears. She was shorter than Theresa.
Seele: Little girl.
Aether and Seele helped her up.
Paimon: Are you alright?
???: I–I'm fine! I'm not hurt! Sorry for bumping into you.
Theresa: Oh no no no. It's fine.
Aether: You dropped something.
Aether held up a little notebook with a symbol on it.
Paimon: Hey, look, there's some writing on here...
Paimon: "Explosion inside city wall, grounded be thy woe," "Explosions can hurt people, Jean can be dreadful," "Mondstadt be bombed, Klee be doomed..."
???: Yikes...
Theresa: What are they?
???: Mr. Kaeya wrote these down for me, um... they're, um... survival rules.
Paimon: Survival rules?
???: Y–Yeah... Rules that I must absolutely never break under any circumstances. Otherwise, something terrible would happen.
Aether: Kaeya writes like this?
???: Yep! Ahh, I forgot to introduce myself! My name is Klee.
Patrick in mind: So this is Klee, the girl who loves to blow stuff up.
Aether: My name is Aether.
Kiana: I'm Kiana.
Mei: I am Mei.
Bronya: Bronya.
Seele: Seele is my name.
Patrick: I'm Patrick.
Theresa: I'm Theresa, the World's number 1 cutie.
Paimon: And Paimon's name is... well, Paimon.
Theresa: Maybe the next time you introduce yourself, don't say your name before telling your name.
Paimon: Easy for you to say!
Klee: I've heard all about you guys! You're the Honorary Knights and Valkyries who help Mondstadt!
Theresa: Yes, that's us.
Paimon: Wow! More recognition, yay! Paimon is so happy right now.
Klee: I heard it from Amber... But wait, no— there's no time for this right now. I'm dealing with a big emergency. I grabbed my map and ran as fast as I could all the way here.
Aether: What's wrong?
Theresa: What reason would you have for rushing all the way here?
Klee: Th–The treasure I buried in the Whispering Woods, it's... gone.
Paimon: Did you say... buried treasure!?
Aether: I think she needs our help.
Paimon: Exactly what Paimon was thinking!
Theresa: A girl dressed in red, hmm...
Paimon: And she has treasure!
Paimon in mind: Seriously? Klee gets Six-Fingered José's vote for strongest fighter in Mondstadt? What is wrong with people...
Paimon: Lost treasure is a big deal. Let us help you find it!
Klee: Yay! Thanks, you guys! Here! Here's where the map says the treasure should be. I put a circle round it. I also put a wooden sign in the group at the place where I buried it. To make it easier to find!
Paimon in mind: ...Paimon is starting to understand how this treasure went missing so easily.
Klee: Come on Honorary Knights and Valkyries, let's go!
(Whispering Woods)
We ran as fast as we could with Klee.
Klee: ♪ La la la la la la la~ ♪
Klee was singing.
Paimon: The treasure's gone, but you seem oddly happy...
Klee: Ah, well, Razor and Albedo seem really busy recently. So Klee must not disturb them. But now Klee has new friends! It's such a nice surprise to have a new friend to help me! Hehehe. I'm so happy!
Theresa: At least there will be someone to play with.
Theresa in mind: If there more playable Lolis and Shotas.
We arrived at the place where there was a sign and a dig up.
Klee: We're here! This is the place. Look, this is where my huuuge treasure was buried...
Paimon: And where there's now a huuuge empty hole in the ground...
Theresa: Somebody must have already beaten us to it.
Kiana: But who else would know where this place is besides Klee?
Aether: Wait — who's that over there?
We saw a Pyro Abyss Mage levitating an orb thing.
Paimon: It's... an Abyss Mage!? Hey, maybe he's the one Jean was warning us about. What's that in his hand?
Klee: My treasure!
Paimon: ...Wha!?
Everyone: That's your treasure?!
Abyss Mage: Hmph! I see the little girl's brought her friends with her! Time for a change of plan...
The Abyss Mage starts to flee.
Paimon: Hey, you! If you think you're so tough, get back here and fight!
Aether: After him!
Patrick and Valkyries: Right!
Mei: I'll go on ahead! Lightning Speed!
Mei charges up with blue electricity then she uses Killua's move again and goes after the Abyss mage. The rest of us start to give chase too.
Klee: What's an Abyss Mage? I play in the forest all the time, but I've never seen one before.
Theresa: They're bad and they're dangerous.
Klee: It looks so cute! Soft, and fluffy... I wanna pet it.
Theresa: Trust us, you don't want to do that.
Mei caught up with the Abyss Mage then she tackled him then we caught up and stopped.
Paimon: Game's up. Now hand it over!
Abyss Mage: Grr...
Patrick: You're outnumbered.
Abyss Mage: You fools think I would give this up so easily after what I have been through to acquire it?
The Abyss Mage teleported out of Mei's grip.
Abyss Mage: Hehe...
Then he summoned a barrier around us and summoned Pyro Slimes.
Mei: I forgot that they can teleport.
Kiana: Don't feel down Mei.
We killed all the Pyro Slimes then the barrier disappeared and the Abyss Mage started to flee again.
Kiana: After him!
Kiana led the way as we charged in after the Abyss Mage.
Paimon: Careful, Klee, don't be drawn in by it... Abyss Mages are the bad guys.
Theresa: That's exactly right.
Klee: Oh... That's right, Master Jean says that stealing is wrong.
Kiana: My turn! Time slow down!
She activated evasion/time fracture and time slowed down. She caught up to the Abyss Mage then she jumped up and...
Kiana: Neko...-Charm!
She summoned a giant cat paw from a void portal with her leg and she drop kicks the Abyss Mage down to the ground then time resumes normal.
Paimon: Freeze!
On que, Theresa uses her Oath of Judah and binds the Abyss Mage with her Divine Key's chains.
Theresa: Now you won't be able to escape.
Abyss Mage: *panting* That girl's lucky she didn't come alone, otherwise I'd...
He teleports out again which caused Theresa to turn pale white shocked.
Abyss Mage: Hmph...
Then he summons another barrier then summons Electro Slimes.
Theresa: It didn't work!
Patrick: Don't cry Theresa. We'll get him.
Theresa: You're right. This is no time to cry.
Patrick: That's the spirit. Let's go!
We killed all the Electro Slimes and made the barrier disappear. Then the Abyss Mage flees again. We gave chase again.
Klee: Hmm... But if we could just get him to give it back...
We kept chasing the Abyss Mage but then he disappeared out of sight.
Paimon: Where'd he go? The Abyss Mage! He just... disappeared! What's going on?
Bronya used an explosive spell then blew away some rocks which revealed a Pyro monument.
Paimon: How did you know that was there?!
Bronya: On instinct, Paimon.
Seele: You never cease to amaze us, Bronya.
Patrick: Now just leave this to me.
I light up the Pyro Monument then an entrance to a domain dungeon was revealed.
Paimon: A gateway to a domain! The Abyss Mage must have snuck inside.
Aether: Then he has no way out.
Seele: We've got him cornered.
Klee: *panting*...
Klee was tired and panting.
Paimon: Klee, do you need a rest? Why don't you wait here while we get your treasure back for you?
Klee: ...No, I'm coming with you! It's my treasure that Mr. Fluffball stole, and it's up to me to get it back!
Aether: But these domains can be dangerous.
Klee: Hee-hee, don't worry. Klee is a big girl!
Theresa: We admire your courage. Ok, you can come with us. Just as long as you stay close to me. And as long as you can fight.
Klee: Come on, Honorary Knights and Valkyries! Let's goooo!
We entered into the dungeon. There were different types of monsters in the dungeon. We showed Klee what we can do and she was amazed. She stayed close to Theresa. She even showed us what she could do. She used Pyro magic. We got through the dungeon and got to the Abyss Mage.
Abyss Mage: Hmph. You followed me. I must say, I'm impressed. But this is as far as you will get.
Paimon: Oh yeah? What are you gonna do?
Patrick: We have powers far stronger than yours
Abyss Mage: Mwuhahaha! Ahahahaha! Oh, the human proclivity to gossip has provided us with everything we need... We learned that your little red friend had in her possession the most powerful treasure in all of Mondstadt. That treasure is now in my hands. There is nothing you can do! Now your precious treasure shall be your undoing!
Klee: No, no, wait! D–don't touch it!
Abyss Mage: Hah! Oh, how you fret now your predicament is finally clear to you! Now, what have we here — a flame symbol? Mwuhahaha...
And once he touched it...
???: *bang*
The Abyss Mage Blew up.
Klee: NO!
We turned to Klee.
Klee: I broke the survival rules... "Explosions can hurt people... Jean can be dreadful..." This is it... This time I'm done for... *sobs*
Klee was crying. Theresa wrapped her arms around Klee to comfort her.
Theresa: There there.
Paimon: Huh!? Wait, so Klee's treasure is a bomb!?
Aether: It made short work of that Abyss Mage.
Paimon: No wonder Klee was rumored to be the strongest fighter in Mondstadt. Paimon for one is never picking a fight with her. Ever.
Klee: Just let me go.
Theresa: Let us go with you back to Jean. No, let me go back with you. You may need someone with you.
Klee runs off while Theresa chases after her.
Paimon: Hold on... Why has she gone and run off?
Aether: Something to do with the survival rules...
Kiana: And Jean too.
Paimon: Seems like it! Well then, let's head to the Knights' Headquarters and report to Jean!
(Knights of Favonius Headquarters)
We rushed back to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters where we got to Jean's office where Klee and Theresa were already at. Klee was still crying while Theresa was close to her side.
Paimon: Klee? You're here too?
Klee: I... *sobbing* I turned myself in.
Paimon: ...huh?
Theresa: She felt that she did something wrong and turned herself in to Jean.
Klee: *sobbing* I... M–My bomb... I–I hurt someone... *sobbing* I broke the rules... I'll never see the light of day again...
Jean: Klee, I need you to answer me. You said someone was injured. Where are they?
Aether: Wait! There's been a misunderstanding.
Jean: Why is that?
Aether: The person that Klee blew up was an Abyss Mage.
Theresa: It's true. She thought the Abyss Mage was a normal person and felt that she did something wrong.
Klee: But... But Mr. Fluffball was only a thief... He didn't deserve to blow up...
Paimon: Hey, come on now... Paimon and Theresa already told you that the Abyss Mages are the bad guys...
Theresa: Yes, that's right.
Paimon: And actually, they're the worst kind of bad guys you can imagine. They don't just hate the good guys, they hate all people... Their enemy is... humanity itself.
Klee: Mr. Fluffball... was a bad guy on purpose? ...Mr. Fluffball is the enemy of humanity!?
Theresa: Yes. Like the Hilichurls.
Klee: Wha... what!? I don't get it!
Theresa: Huh?!
Jean: This was an oversight on my part. I did not tell you these things before because you are still young. In fact, the Abyss Order is a hostile force in Mondstadt which has been unusually active lately.
Aether: Because of Mondstadt's most powerful treasure?
Seele: It's the most likely reason why. Yes.
Theresa: At least they weren't after our Divine Keys.
Paimon: Aha, that's it! Paimon understands now! They were tracking down poor Klee because they'd heard rumors about her treasure! Just like the way Paimon's first reaction was to try and get her hands on... ahh, no— to try and get the facts on the treasure.
Klee: So... does that mean...
Jean: In light of your contribution on this matter, I will allow you to take part in the next Ludi Harpastum.
Klee: Ludi Harpastum! Whoa!
Aether: You got very lucky!
Theresa: You're cleared!
Theresa held hands with Klee then they jumped around in a circle. We smiled seeing two little girls dance around together.
Klee: Honorary Knights and Valkyries, you've gotta come too!
Theresa: Sure thing, we'd like to check out this Ludi Harpastum.
Paimon: Woop-de-doo, it's a happy ending!
Jean: Except...
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
Everyone: Huh?
We all turned our heads to Jean just as a record scratch sound effect played.
Paimon: ...Except what?
Jean: Klee, where did you hide the treasure to begin with?
Klee: I... Um...
Kiana: In the Whispering Woods.
Theresa: And for what reason did you have for burying your bomb treasure?
Jean: Were you trying to blow up the fish in Starfell Lake again?
Klee: I wasn't! I swear I wasn't!
Theresa: Were you trying to get rid of your treasure?
Klee: No. I mean yes.
Paimon in mind: She's giving us that look that means, play along...
Jean gave a stern look.
Aether in mind: Uh-oh, Jean noticed it too...
Jean: Klee?
Klee: I'll see myself to solitary confinement... *sobbing*
Klee exits out of Jean's office.
Paimon: Paimon bets Klee must get bored in there all by herself...
We turned to Jean.
Jean: *sigh* Klee is no ordinary child. In fact, she holds the title of Spark Knight within our ranks.
Paimon: No way! Even Klee gets to be a Knight of Favonius!?
Aether: Sounds more impressive than "Honorary Knight."
Theresa: And world's number 1 cutie.
Paimon: Yes! Paimon thinks this is quite unjust! Although... The name kinda makes sense considering what Klee's treasure does.
Jean: Yes. She causes her fair share of trouble for the Knights of Favonius, but we care a great deal about her. As for her background... In short, you will understand her more as time goes by. Please keep an eye on her in the future, Travelers.
Kiana asks Jean a question.
Kiana: Why always so restrictive on her? She's a good fighter.
Jean: Well it is true that she is a good fighter but she still needs to learn some discipline and responsibility so she doesn't blow Mondstadt up. Ever since she was younger, her mother, the most famous adventurer Alice entrusted her daughter Klee to us in our care. When ever she is out fighting against monsters, she always likes blowing everything up and we can't allow that.
Theresa: I know how you feel Jean. I've had to teach Kiana some discipline and responsibility.
Kiana: Hey!
Theresa: We all have to make sure that the young doesn't act all trigger happy. I've had Kiana entrusted to me since her mother and my best friend Cecelia was killed by my grandfather and since her father Siegfried disappeared.
Patrick: Well then let Theresa mentor Klee.
Theresa: Why me?
Patrick: Because since you're 40 years old and still a child, you'd be the right choice to mentor Klee.
Theresa: I suppose I could do that. Since I am mature, I could teach Klee a few things.
Jean: I guess since you are a child but 40 years old and mature, I think I'll allow it.
Seele: I'd like to mentor Klee too.
Bronya: And so does the Bronya.
We exited out of Jean's office and find Klee's door.
Paimon: Guess whooo~?
Klee: That's Paimon's voice I hear!
Patrick: It's us Klee. We'll let ourselves in.
We opened the door and stepped inside the confinement room.
Aether: Need a bite to eat or anything?
Mei: We could get you something to eat from Good Hunter.
Klee: Ooh, ooh, yes, please! Wait – no, I... I can't. Klee needs to be a good girl and think about what she did... Stop tempting me!
Theresa: Ok. Ok.
Klee: Anyway, while I'm grounded, I'm making an extra-special new treasure... the Ludi Harpastum version!
Paimon: When you say "treasure..."
Klee: Tee-hee... I made it into the shape of a harpastum and everything! It looks so cute...
Aether: You disguised a bomb as a harpastum?
Klee: Just wait for Ludi Harpastum, oh yeah... They're gonna love it!
Paimon: Yeesh, if Jean was listening to this... Klee might find herself grounded for an awful lot longer.
Klee: *sob* I'll be more careful next time... Next time, I'll complete a big heroic adventure all by myself, and I'll do it safely! I've heard that the Adventurer's Guild has its own set of rules. I wonder if I could get them to...
Paimon: Yeesh, if Cyrus was listening to this... He would be begging Jean to extend Klee's sentence!
Theresa: And when you come out of the confinement room. We'll mentor you. Mostly me. I'm a principle of a school so I can teach you a few things.
Klee: Really?
Theresa: Yeah.
Klee grabbed Theresa's hands.
Theresa: If you don't mind, I'd like to keep you company here.
Klee: I don't mind.
Patrick: Well I guess we should be going now.
Bronya: The Bronya has some library work to do with Lisa.
Seele: So do I.
Patrick: And once you get out of confinement, I could give you rides on my Dragon. It'll be exhilarating.
Klee: Ok.
With that we left the confinement room except Theresa to do other things in Mondstadt.
