CHAPTER FOUR: havana
{ " he didn't walk up with that 'how you doin'?' " -- havana, camila cabello, 2018 }
"Would you like to explain to me what you were doing on the back of Honeybee Morgan's motorcycle? And why you were having milkshakes with her? When you told me you were studying?" Veronica demanded as she and her boyfriend stood in the Andrews family home.
"Well, I was studying. With Honeybee. She's going to be my tutor. And then, to thank her, since I'm not paying her, I said I would buy her a milkshake. And we got from school to Pop's on her motorcycle." Archie was surprised at Veronica's outburst, and if he was being honest, upset that she was being so harsh towards Honeybee. "Listen, Ronnie, whatever you think is going on between Honeybee and I ... nothing is going on. You're being irrational."
"I'm being irrational?" Veronica scoffed. "Do you see the way she walks around school, Archie? Flaunting herself at every guy? But of course, she spends the most time on you, and you're oblivious. You know, I heard that she and Reggie hooked up this summer."
Archie shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes. "Good for them!" He threw his hands up, perplexed by the situation. In his mind, he didn't see the problem that Veronica did.
Veronica shook her head as she stared at her boyfriend. "I cannot believe you. I'm going home. When you come around and realize what is going on in this situation, Archie, I will be ready to accept your apology." She gave him a fake smile and then grabbed her purse.
"I have nothing to apologize for! I haven't done anything bad!" He shouted as the Lodge girl left, slamming the house door behind her. Archie groaned and found his phone, sending a text to Jughead. He needed some guy time with his best friend.

On the other side of town, a plan was brewing at the Whyte Worm. The Serpent stirring the pot? Honeybee Morgan herself.
"So that's your great plan, Honeybee?" Sweet Pea looked at his sister with a raised eyebrow. "Since we can't wear our jackets to school, you want us to go naked?"
Evie rolled her eyes and shook her head. "No, not naked. That would get us in trouble for public indecency. Tomorrow, every single one of us is going to walk into school breaking the dress code."
"The dress code? Come on, Honeybee, how is this going to do anything?" Fangs shouted from the back.
"Think about it, Fangs." Evie strolled casually to a bar stool, seating herself in front of all of the group. She took her jacket off, revealing the revealing tank top she had on underneath. It had very thin straps and showcased enough cleavage to get her in trouble. "Maybe something like this is all we own besides our jackets. I think they'd rather have us covered in leather than barely covered at all." She climbed up on the stool so that she was standing, and then pulled off her jeans, revealing a pair of homemade Daisy Dukes.
"Whoa whoa!" Sweet Pea rushed to the front of the group, throwing his own jacket at Evie. "I will not have my sister walking around like a damn hooker, thanks."
Evie rolled her eyes as Sweet Pea climbed up next to her, sliding his jacket on her shoulders. It was larger than her own jacket, and it covered the bottom of her shorty shorts.
"Would you relax? They all saw worse from my Serpent initiation." She hissed to her brother. "I'm trying to rile them up. Get them under my plan."
"Yeah, well, I don't see how this is going to get us anywhere. What if they don't care? And what are the guys going to wear?" Sweet Pea asked.
"Guys!" She called out. "Girls, I think you know what we're wearing tomorrow ..." She glanced at Toni, who shot her a big thumbs up. "And guys, I have something for you." She ducked behind the bar, bringing out a box of ripped, oversized, saggy jeans. "Make sure you wear your flashiest boxers tomorrow, and your tightest, holiest t-shirts."
"So, let me get this straight." Jughead walked over, picking up a pair of the over-distressed jeans. "We're dressing like hobos, and you girls are dressing like hookers?"
Evie rolled her eyes, but thankfully, Betty piped up next to her boyfriend. Evie had almost forgotten the blonde was there. She wondered if she'd join in on their fun tomorrow. "They're not dressing like hookers, Jug. They're dressing in a way that they know breaks the dress code, as a way of rebellion. You don't want your freedom of wearing your jacket taken away, and this is a good way of protesting it."
Jughead's harsh expression softened as he listened to Betty, and finally, he nodded. He cleared his throat and held onto the pair of pants in his hands, then turned to face the group. "Grab a pair, boys. We'll all be wearing them tomorrow." He then took Betty's hand and lead her out of the Whyte Worm, dismissing the meeting.
Once the group had dissipated a bit, Sweet Pea pulled his sister aside. "Do you really think this will work?"
"I don't hear any other plans, do you?" She said quietly as she folded up the remaining pairs of jeans. They were so ripped up, they'd be good for nothing but oil rags after their demonstration.
Sweet Pea sighed and shook his head. "Okay, but if we get in serious trouble for this ... I'll take the heat. I'll say I came up with the plan."
"What?" Evie abruptly stopped folding and looked up at her brother. "Why?"
"Because, Evie," He began, using his sister's other nickname. "Even with what happened in New York, I think you can get out of this town and do something with your life. Any additional damage can only harm your reputation."
Evie looked at her brother, an "awww" expression flashing across her face. "I love you, big bro." She said, giving him a tight hug.
A rare, genuine smile crossed Sweet Pea's face as he hugged his sister back. "I love you too, Evie."
"Honeybee." She reminded him, pulling away from the hug. "Are you going to stick around here longer?"
"Yeah, I think so. You leaving?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"Yeah, I'm going to head home." She said. "Work on some homework."
"Okay, see you there, then." Sweet Pea responded. He had no intention of doing his homework. Being a good student was his twin's thing, not his.
"Home" for the Morgan twins was a trailer at Sunnyside, next the Jones's. The twins were both emancipated from their father, their only surviving guardian, so they were able to live alone.
Evie hopped off her motorcycle, parking it as close to the trailer as she could. She looked over at the Jones trailer, seeing that there were more lights on than usual. Usually, that meant Jughead had a guest. And usually, it was Betty.
To prevent a glimpse of Betty and Jughead in a compromising position, Evie quickly unlocked her trailer and went inside, then locked the door behind her. She went to close the curtain facing the Jones trailer, but then stopped as she noticed a flash of red hair through the window.
It wasn't Jughead's girlfriend that was visiting the trailer, it was his best friend.
Evie thought about her and Archie's afternoon, and wondered how things had panned out after Veronica had approached the two of them at Pop's. She had bolted before the Lodge witch could say anything to her, although she now wished she would have stuck around. It wasn't like she and Archie had done anything to provoke Veronica's anger -- they were just on their way towards becoming friends.
Before her good judgement could get the better of her, Evie was out the door and across the yard, heading towards the Jones's.
She quickly knocked on the door, then felt a feeling in her stomach like she probably should not have come over.
The door opened, revealing Jughead. "Hey, Honeybee. What's up?"
"Oh, I was just wondering if -" She abruptly stopped, watching as Archie came into room. "Hey, Andrews."
"Hi, Honeybee." He said politely before looking away from her.
Evie turned her attention back to Jughead as she scrambled to make up a reason as for why she was there in the first place.
Why was she there in the first place? She honestly couldn't think of a true reason, much less a fake one.
"I was bored." She said nonchalantly. "Sweet Pea isn't home, and I finished my homework, so ..." This was a lie. She had not finished her homework. "Sorry, I'll go home. I didn't mean to intrude on your hang out or whatever."
"It's okay." Archie blurted, causing both of the present Serpents to look at him.
Evie noticed Jughead giving Archie a look, and she realized what the two boys had been up to. They were talking about the event that occurred at Pop's, involving Archie and Evie and Veronica.
They were talking about her, and here she was.
Evie definitely wasn't going to stick around. "Nah, I'll go home." She gave each of the boys a tight smile and then nodded at Jughead. "I'll talk to you later, Jug." She then quickly ducked out of the trailer and headed back for her own.
She threw herself onto her bed, internally cursing at herself with every word she knew, which was a lot.
What the hell was going on with her? Every time she caught a glimpse of the red-haired boy, it was like she craved his attention. Why was that? Maybe it was the fact that though she could have any other boy in that school, she couldn't have him. And the reason she couldn't was because he was stuck in the claws of Veronica Lodge, whose family Evie despised more than she hated the devil himself.
Evie ran a hand through her dark hair, then peeled off her Serpent jacket and threw it in the corner. She changed into an old t-shirt of her brothers and a pair of cotton boyshorts, then dug out her backpack. She really did need to finish the homework she had lied about finishing, and maybe it could help take her mind off a certain ginger.
She was just about done with her last calculus problem when there was a knock at the door. Figuring it was her brother, who was infamous for forgetting his house key, she groaned and stood up, rolling her eyes.
"Sweet Pea, why don't you put them on a damn keychain --" she stopped, realizing she was staring into a different pair of brown eyes that didn't belong to her brother.
