Wicked Games
Raindrops slid on the slick surface of the windows. The windshield wipers matched the tempo of the song that played softly from the radio in the taxi. The driver, who's name was Charles, would throw worried glances into the backseat in Aria's direction.
"Are you sure you want to go to Fort Casey?" The kind old driver asked.
Aria stopped watching as the raindrops raced and looked at the driver. His chestnut brown hair held a few gray streaks, his large hands on the steering wheel were calloused from years of hard work, his brown eyes held a concern that Aria had not witnessed since her fathers passing.
"Yes," Aria lied, "I promised my friend I would meet her there."
The old man pursed his lips and looked back at the road, "I'm sure your friend would understand if I left you somewhere better."
Aria scrunched up her eyebrows. "I could take you to the library, it's warm there," The older gentleman spoke, "I wouldn't feel right leaving you in the cold and rain."
Aria smiled softly, he was concerned for her wellbeing, "I'll be ok sir, no need to worry."
The driver looked into the rear view mirror into Aria's eyes. In a way he was reminded of his granddaughter when he looked at the unknown teen that was his passenger. He knew nothing good happened at that rundown abandoned fort and he didn't want his conscience burdened with the thought of this girl being hurt or doing something bad.
Aria sensed his attitude and used her gift to persuade the man to do exactly what she wanted. She didn't like using her gift like this, in fact she never really used it a lot until she got to Forks. The driver quit paying attention to his passenger and focused on driving towards the destination.
As the cab fell into silence, Aria reflected on everything in her past sixteen years of life. She remembered the Texas heat as her father taught her how to swim. The dance classes she took when she was four which changed over to violin and piano classes four months later. She remembered her grandfather sitting on the porch teaching her to play the guitar she received that Christmas. Her moments with Chris as they fed the goats and pigs on his grandparents farm. Her scholarly achievements that landed her into national honor societies and on the path for early acceptance at Rice University.
The rain had slowed to a mere drizzle by the time the taxi reached Fort Casey. Aria exited the car, her boots crunching on the pebble road as the driver sped away back to Port Angeles. Her brown eyes examined the crumbling ruins of the once well used training facility. Her feet carried her to the doors that hung off its hinges. She paused at the doorway staring into the void of black that waited to consume her. She thought for a moment, trying to muster up the courage to face the monster that threatened everything she loved. She looked back over her shoulder into the lifeless sky and pellets of rain that hit the puddles on the ground. Before she lost her nerve she threw herself into the waiting arms of the darkness.
In the near distance Aria detected the sound of a water droplet meeting a puddle. Her boots clicked against the concrete floor as her eyes scanned the graffiti filled walls. There were swirled designs in multiple colors of the rainbow. Some designs were names, others were pictures, some said where to go and what to do to yourself on the way there. Aria suppresses the chill of fear when she located a freshly spray painted red arrow.
This way Angel, it read causing Aria's heart to seize in her chest for a moment.
Aria followed the written command as she walked farther into the building. She followed the signs that Elijah left her. The charms on her charm bracelet chimed as her arms swayed by her sides. She thought about the moments she would never have. She would never see graduation day. Alice wouldn't be happy since Aria promised her she could do her makeup for the big day. She wouldn't be able to pull another prank on Edward with Emmett's help. She'd never see her friends again. She looked down at her charms and saw the honeybee and nearly cried. She would never see Alec again. She knew he planned on asking for her hand in marriage after she graduated courtesy of Edward and Jane. She would've said yes, Esme and Alice would've helped her pick out the perfect dress. Alice would plan everything, Aria would ask Renesmee to be her maid of honor and ask Jane to be a part of her bridal party.
"I didn't expect you to show," a husky voice cooed pulling Aria from her thoughts, "I actually thought you would've run and hide, I guess we never learn do we?"
Aria turned and stared at her ex who was leaning up against the wall. He struck a match highlighting his face before he lit his cigarette. He pushed off the wall as he took a long drag of his smoke circling Aria like a predator would do to its prey.
"Well I'm here," Aria snapped.
Elijah's eyes widen, "My my you grew a backbone. I'm impressed."
"Lets get this over with 'Lijah, I'm a very busy woman."
Elijah smiled wickedly, "We will....once my friends make themselves known."
Confusion crossed Aria's features until a low chuckle behind her. She spun on her heels to see a man emerging from the shadows. His hair was short and could easily pass for snow due to it being so white. His skin was of a sickly white pallor mixed with an onion skin like look that was far worse than the Volturi king's. His eyes were red but with more of a film on them then all three masters combined. His clothes were black but had the makings of ancient styles. Aria knew who he was before he introduced himself. He was Vladimir, one of two of the survivors of the once ruling Romanian Coven.
Aria felt her heart stop for a moment. She felt a swish causing her hair to fly around her before she felt two strong cold hands grab her roughly from behind. Aria struggled only for the vampires grip to tighten nearly breaking her arms.
"Are you sure?" A thick Romanian accented voice questioned from behind her.
"I'm sure," Elijah said as he crossed over to Vladimir's side, "Alec's her boyfriend."
Vladimir smiled to his coven mate, Stefan, who was currently holding the mate of the high ranked guard. "Wonderful," Vladimir spoke as he patted Elijah's shoulder, "then you are no longer needed."
Elijah opened his mouth to say something only to have Vladimir break the escaped convicts neck to the point where his face was now facing backwards. Aria stood still her eyes glued onto Elijah's crumpled body on the ground before her eyes darted back to Vladimir. The vampire was in front of her in a second lowering himself to her height, his red eyes never leaving her face.
Aria decided in that moment she would play the good hostage, hoping her aunt would see her and be able to rescue her.
"We're going to play a game," Vladimir chuckled, "we'll play when you wake up."
Aria remembered hearing laughter before something struck her head causing her to crumple onto the ground. Stefan looked at his coven mate and back at the small human on the ground. "It looks like we can finally have revenge brother," Stefan said as he picked up the human teen. Vladimir smiled his wicked smile before the pair took off.
