Smooth Sailing
Aria stood in her stitch bathrobe, her golden hair pinned up and wrapped under a silk scarf, and hands drawn behind her back. She woke up early Saturday morning in order to pick the perfect out for her first date with her beau. She had narrowed down her wardrobe choices down to three. The first was a simple Rolling Stones t-shirt, ripped black jeans, black boots, a forest green jacket, and checkered infinity scarf. The second was a bit of a step up from her first option: a cherry red blouse and gold pants with the matching gold heels. The third outfit was more of a retro look, her long sleeved burgundy dress that stopped mid-shin with matching petticoat, the collar of her dress was a beautiful soft creme color and the belt that tied in the front was a little bow matched. Her one inch heels were black. She didn't know where Alec planned on taking her so that made her decision all the more difficult than she wanted it to be. She could either be too dressed up if they went to the movies or look like a commoner if he took her to the a five star restaurant.
A soft knock on her bedroom door pulled her out of her thoughts. "Come in."
Alice bound into the room closing the door behind her. "Option Three."
"Huh?"
"I can't tell you where Alec is planning on taking you but Option Three will have you ready to go for anything on the date," beamed the pixie vampire.
"The great and powerful Alice has spoken," joked Aria.
"Only to save you from a fashion disaster," teased her aunt.
"Hey Aunt Alice cou-"
"-of course I'll help you with your makeup."
Aria laughed and sat at her vanity, flicked the switch the bulbs ignited making her look so much paler than she already was. Alice practically skipped over to her niece already knowing exactly the look to go with.
"Have you eaten yet?" Alice questioned, "I'm not going to have my masterpiece messed up if you get hungry."
"I ate an apple and some almonds."
"I'm going to pretend you said you ate a full balanced meal," Alice said as she got her supplies ready, "in case your uncle asks."
Aria smiled again before relaxing her face as her aunt set to work. After two hours Alice set down her tools and admired her work before spraying her niece with the setting spray.
"Are ya done?"
"Take a look Ari," cooed the vampiress as she turned her nieces chair towards the mirror.
Aria opened her eyes and let out an audible gasp. Her full lips were a beautiful Noir Red, her smokey eyeshadow a perfect blend of light and dark with a winged eyeliner and lush lashes framing her almond eyes. A faint poppy rogue dusted her cheeks blended to the point that it looked like her natural blush.
Aria discarded her robe slipping on her stockings, petticoat and dress with her aunts help. In the full length mirror, Aria couldn't help but admired herself. She looked like a timeless beauty. The last piece was her hair. Removing the scarf and unpinning her hair, Alice arranging it perfectly.
Alice beamed behind her. Aria's brown orbs met with her aunts honey gold ones, "Do you think Alec will like it?"
"Oh honey, Alec won't know what hit him."
Aria looked at the clock, 9:45 a.m. Alec would be there to collect her in 15 minutes. Butterflies fluttered around in her stomach. She was so eager to know where he planned on taking her. She filled her clutch with the essentials: an extra stocking, her noir red lipstick, lash glue, tic tacs, her wallet, portable charger, and pepper spray. She put on her heels as a knock came from the living room. She could hear her uncles charming southern voice and a voice that made her heart race, Alec.
"Wait about 20 seconds and walk out after me," Alice said as she made her exit.
1....2....3....4, Aria counted mentally. These seconds felt like years. 16....17....18....19....20. Aria exited her room and walked down the hall towards the sound of her aunts bell like laughter. She turned the corner revealing her uncle and aunt wrapped in each other's arms and Alec standing awkwardly by the front door.
He took her breath away. She could see why most of the Italian Renaissance artist and sculptures used the Volturi as muses. No man held a candle to the flame that was her Alec, even Demetri paled in comparison. He had his hair slicked back revealing his Adonis like face. His navy blue sharkskin Armani suit fitted him perfectly. His handcrafted Santoni cognac colored oxfords were polished to a brilliant shine, on his left wrist Aria could see a tiny bit of his silver Rolex watch. In his hands he held a bouquet of Stargazer Lillies.
Alec's eyes drifted to where his mate stood and his jaw hit the floor. She stood there, her burgundy dress highlighted her petite frame, and her honey colored pinned up curls fell around her giving her a silver screen movie star look that he loved. He felt someone push his jaw back up and noticed Alices little hand. Aria walked towards him.
Aria's eyes never left Alec as she crossed the room.
"These are for you," Alec said handing over the flowers.
"Thank you. We should get goin' shouldn't we?"
Jasper, his once cheerful demeanor replaced with his alter ego, Major, "I want her home by 1."
"Of course," Alec responded.
Aria wrapped her arm through Alec's and headed for the door. Her uncle hot on their heels.
"Oh," Major said, his eyes darkened to onyx, "whatever you do to her remember I'll do to you."
Alec nodded and pulled his mate through the front door before picking her up.
"Zoom time?" Aria questioned.
Alec chuckled as Ari put her slender arms around his neck, "Yes it's zoom time." The air swooshed around the couple as Alec zigzag between the trees back to the Cullen house. They arrived a few minutes later. They walked into the house to a bombardment of flashes.
"Show me the love!" exclaimed Felix and Emmett as they snapped pictures of the two.
Aria ended up blinking profusely only to see little dark spots. Alec guided her away from them and towards the front door giving everyone a death glare and outside towards Master Marcus's Lincoln. He opened the door, helping her inside, before reappearing on the other side. Alec started the car and off they headed.
Aria turned on the radio, singing along to every song that came on. Alec couldn't help but smile every time he would glance over at her. Aria sat dancing in her seat, her beautiful voice rising and falling with each note. Her eyes light up once she found a country station, the sound of a piano and drum the only thing heard as Aria jumped in her seat. Alec looked at her as she was a mad woman until her mezzo-soprano voice highlighted Patsy Cline's contralto voice filling the space around them.
"I got your picture," Aria sang sweetly, "that you gave to me."
Alec smiled once more.
"And it's signed with love just like it used to be,
The only thing different
The only thing new
I've got your picture, she's got you"
Aria continued singing. She matched the melody and acted as harmony to the late and great Patsy Cline. Her voice rose and fell in the beautiful ballad. She had her eyes closed the faintest of smiles on her face, swaying softly side to side. Alec found it adorable think she was just enjoying the song, but what he didn't know was that Aria saw her father, his frosted blonde hair, sweat pants, and black shirt holding her chubby little hands that she had when she was four her unruly curls circling her as she spun in a circle. Her father decided to teach her how to slow dance to this song in their kitchen as they waited for the muffins they made to bake. Her memory and happiness was short lived, the monotone voice on the commercial throwing her back to reality.
"That was beautiful," Alec gushed, "I didn't know you could sing."
"I don't exactly break out into song and dance like a Disney movie."
"What's Disney?"
Aria laughed, "You're jokin' right?"
Alec stayed quiet. "You've never watched any Disney movie have ya?"
"My line of work doesn't exactly give me a chance to experience most of the things you have cara mia."
"Second date, I'm introducing you to Disney."
"Already planning our second date honeybee," teased Alec.
"Of course darlin'."
They pulled up to the aquarium in Seattle. Aria beamed, trying to get out of the car but forgot about that her seatbelt was still on in her excitement, snapping her back into her seat. She prayed Alec didn't see that but judging from his laughter next to her he saw everything. Her face turned red as a tomato her makeup couldn't hide it. Alec reached over unclipping her seatbelt.
"I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I do know in order to exit an automobile you do have to unfasten your seatbelt."
Aria rushed to her own defense, "I was making sure the seatbelt was in workin' order, with ya drivin' like a bat out of hell I didn't wanna go crashin' through the windshield all because the seatbelt wasn't operational."
Alec met her on her side of the car taking her arm. "Is that the story your going with honeybee?"
"Yes."
Alec chuckled shaking his head leading her into the aquarium.
They walked though the exhibits Aria pointing out all of the pretty fish and Alec naming them by their scientific name. Shortly there after, Aria made a game of it calling it "Stump the Vampy" needless to say Alec won the game. They continued walking until they managed to find the otters. Aria gushed at a pair that held hands while they slept finding it to be the most adorable thing she had ever seen. The sea turtles fascinated Alec which Ari that was cute.
They went to the gift shop and Alec bought her a blue otter and Aria surprised her boyfriend by buying him a sea turtle plush.
"I've never had one of these before," Alec said as the couple walked back to the car.
"What? A date?"
"A gift."
Aria stopped walking and looked at her boyfriend. Even the monster Aria dated before she met Alec gave her an occasional present. Alec noticed she wasn't beside him and turned around to look at her.
"Is something wrong?"
"Alec," said the mortal, "No one ever gave you anything?"
"Well Master Aro gave me immortality and a high rank in the guard."
"That doesn't count."
"Then no."
Aria looked down at his turtle, "I should've got you something better."
"No," Alec clutched the turtle to his chest, "this one is perfect."
Aria smiled and kisses her boyfriends cheek, "Alright."
Alec opened the the passenger side door as Aria climbed in. He then drove them to a dock.
"I rented out a whole boat so we could have a private dinner."
They got out the car and made their way down the dock. They boarded the boat and sailed off into the water. The sun was setting behind the overcast sky giving enough cover that Alec wouldn't sparkle. Dinner was fabulous and the sparkling cider was wonderful. The music filtered through the speakers over head. Alec watched as Aria stared off into the fading city lights. The wind softly blew her hair into her face that she swooped back into place.
Alec stood and offered a hand to his mortal love, "Would you care to dance?"
Aria wordlessly gave her hand to Alec. He spun her into a waltz. Aria rested her head onto his chest as their waltz turned into them swaying back and forth.
Their date had been perfect from beginning to end. Aria looked up at her mate with nothing but love reflecting in her brown orbs, Alec's amethyst colored eyes staring back with just as much love.
"Ti amo amore mio," Alec murmured against Aria's lips.
"Ti amo anch'io," Aria replied before sealing their lips together.
