CHAPTER ONE
MIKEY quickly walked down the chaotic streets of raccoon city. everything was on fire, people were robbing stores and there were undead people at every corner. mikey kept his head down as he walked.
he glanced at the blood ridden road, biting his lip from the overwhelming sickness he felt from all the dead human carcasses on the floor. although raccoon city was extremely hot, a cool sensation overtook his body. he crossed his arms, breathing heavily. it was almost as if there was no oxygen. 'don't worry, mike. you're almost there.' the boy freezes for a moment, watching a zombie eat out a person's intestines. a wave of nausea grew over the fifteen year old as he watched the man eater. the zombie looks up, moaning at the sight of mikey. mikey griped onto his bag tightly, staring the zombie down as it walked towards him.
"shit!" he exclaimed, starting to run way from the zombie. more zombies start to notice the panicked boy, moving towards him. mikey makes a run for it, only for him to trip over a dead body lying on the floor.
he starts to crawl backwards, hitting two brown doors behind him. "fuck." he muttered, falling back feeling the door open.
"c'mon, grab my hand!" a rushed yet soothing voice called out. mikey quickly turns to grab the mysterious hand, getting pulled into the diner. for a minute, mikey examines the woman. she had short brown hair, a blue tank top and jeans. he could've sworn that he's seen her around before.
another man quickly races inside with the two, panic written all over his pale face. both the man and the woman try to block the door. mikey's face grew pale, another wave of nausea hitting his body. "door behind you, guys! go!" he shouts, trying to prevent those freakish monsters from entering the diner. the woman listened, starting to run towards the door.
the sound of flesh being bit into echoed in mikey's ears as he saw the man's arm being devoured by a zombie. mikey heaved, hunching over to throw up. he had been trying his best to hold it in, however, after what he had seen he needed to let it all out. "brad!" the woman cried out, picking a knife up from the floor. she rushes over, impaling the zombie's head with the knife, quickly pushing it away. she then helps brad keep the door secure.
"don't think about it." she tried assuring, causing mikey to furrow his eyebrows at the man's injury. "he needs a hospital or some medical help. he's gonna start losing blood." mikey shook his head, leaning against a wall to breathe for a minute.
"he's right." the woman agreed. "w-we can get you medicine, brad. you can get better." she tried to persuade. "c'mon we can make a run for it." she strains, trying to keep the monsters from behind the door back.
"c'mon, jill. we know how this ends." brad gunted, looking at the smaller woman. jill shook her head, looking at the man as if he had two heads. jill. the name coarsed through mikey's veins. it was almost as if he had met her before.
"no. i don't." she argued, looking at brad with furrowed eyebrows. mikey's heart started to beat fast as he watched the two. there was a constant fear in the back of his mind. he was worried if this was the end of the road for him and the two other people in this diner.
"are we still a team?' the man asked, holding the doors back. jill nodded, looking at him. "always." she responded, with a quiver in her voice.
"then do me a favor. don't fuck up like i did." he then pushes jill away from the door, causing her to fall onto the floor. "go! and take the kid with you." he shouts, holding the door back. jill whimpers, standing up with pain written on her face.
"c'mon!" she called out to mikey. mikey rushes over, opening the door for jill. the fifteen year old looked at the floor rather than the injured man. he frowns, watching jill look at brad with sad eyes. the two rush out of the diner, closing the door behind them.
"i'm sorry, brad." she sighed, closing her eyes shut. mikey looks down, awkwardly. "uh hey, i'm sorry about your friend." he apologized in a quiet tone. jill snaps her head at the teenager, nodding softly.
"it's fine." she mumbled, turning around to look at the boy. "are you injured? any bites?" she asked, looking at the slightly taller teenager. mikey shook his head, looking at the woman. the two walk for a bit, only for her to crouch down. "sorry." she apologized to the dead officer, grabbing his gun. she examines it before reloading the weapon.
"why are you apologizing?" mikey asked, crossing his arms at the woman's actions. jill blushes in embarassment. "i didn't wanna be rude." she shrugged, causing the teeanger to laugh softly at jill's response.
"but he's dead." he chuckles, shoving his hands into the pockets of his red hoodie. jill bit her lip, nodding awkwardly.
"i'm jill valentine." she introduced, starting to walk with the young boy again. mikey's eyes widened, putting his hand over his mouth.
"no way. THE jill valentine? y-you're the one that survived the mansion incident, right?" he asked with a wide smile plastered on his face. jill chuckles softly.
"i'm guessing you followed the case?" she questioned, placing the gun into her back pocket. "well, yeah. i found it interesting." he replied. "i found you to be pretty badass by the way." he complimented. jill smiles softly at the compliment.
"you never told me your name." she smiled softly, glancing at the boy.
"oh i'm michael but everyone calls me mikey." he introduced, causing jill to nod.
the two walked for a while, climbing over fallen obstacles. jill opens a black gate, walking into a dark alleyway with mikey. "y-you still have y-your gun, right?" he stuttered, inching closer to jill as they walked.
"yup, don't worry." jill smiled, softly. there was a helicopter sound coming from above. "you down there! get to the parking garage roof!" a voice from a voice called out.
"parking garage. got it." she nodded, walking into a large warehouse. there was man inside, causing mikey to jump up slightly. "sir, are you alright?" jill asked, causing the man to startle at her voice.
"stay back! don't come any closer!" the man shouts, starting to move away fromn jill and mikey. mikey watches the man, biting his lip softly.
"hey, c'mon. there's a helicopter waiting to take you to safety." jill replied, following the man down the steps. the man proceeds to run into a large box with an open door.
"what 'safety'? i'm not going out there!" he protested, jumping up into the small box room. jill shook her head, walking towards the man. "the parking garage isn't far. i can take you there." she tries to persuade, clearly, not wanting to leave an other person behind.
"c'mon, we're not gonna hurt you. we just wanna get out of here too." mikey frowns, shrugging softly at the stubborn old man.
"the only safe place is in here!" the old man shouted, glaring the two before he closed the doors. jill shook her head, refusing to leave the man.
"sir, what's your name? i can't just leave you behind." she protested, standing in front of the doors. mikey sighed, running a hand through his curly reddish brown hair.
"it's darrio rosso." he answered before letting out a scoff. "and yeah right, you just wanna steal my safehouse!" he shouts. "get your own, missy!"
jill scoffs, taken aback from the little name he called her. mikey rolls his eyes, growing frustrated with the old man. they just wanted him to be safe. was that wrong?
"would you please calm down?" jill asked with a more hostile tone. "i'm a police officer, i'm here to help." she tried persuading once again.
"god, we just wanna fucking help!" mikey shouts with anger written in his voice.
"here to help? oh, yeah, you've been doing a bang up job." he remarked sarcastically, causing mikey to let out a frustrated groan. "you wanna help? go handcuffs yourself to one of those freaks." mikey clenched his fist in anger.
"sir, this is your last chance. no one else is coming for you." jill warned, trying to convince him one more time.
"i'm not going anywhere!" darrio exclaims. "i'd rather starve to death in here than be eaten by one of those undead monsters!" he yells. "now leave me alone!"
"gladly." mikey scoffed, walking towards the next door. jill sighs, walking towards the door as well. she picks up a box of ammo, stuffing it into one of her pockets.
she walks out, only to be startled at the sound of vicious dogs. mikey shook his head, afraid of what else was ahead of them.
"follow me." jill commands, starting to walk towards the tilted fence. mikey's throat grew dry, looking at the zombies that were on it.
"w-we're not gonna crawl under there, right?" he asked, looking at jill with fear in his eyes. jill places her hands on her hips, sighing heavily.
"this is the only way to go." jill answered, looking at the trembling teenager. "hey, don't worry." she smiled softly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "i'll be right behind you. i'll make sure no one or nothing's there to hurt you." she reassured.
"you promise, right?" he asked, feeling his stomach churn. jill nodded with a small smile.
"i promise." she promised, patting his back softly. mikey takes a deep breath, whispering encouraging phrases to himself. he gets on his knees and starts crawling through the fence with jill behind. the fence falls a bit forward, causing jill to yelp. thankfully, the two make it out, heading straight towards the parking lot.
the two quickly make it towards the elevator. "just one flight up and we're out of here." he took a deep breath. kill smiled at the young boy.
"i told you this already but you got this." she smiled. "once we get out of here, you'll be safe and sound."
"yeah." mikey smiles only for it to fade. "wait no— shit! i can't go!" mikey exclaims, starting to turn around. jill furrows her eyebrows.
"why not?" jill questioned with a look of confusion written on her face.
"i-i promised my dad that i'd meet him at the subway station! i-i can't be here!" he panicked. "thank you jill but i gotta go." he starts to run out of the parking garage, quickly crawling under that fence.
"mikey, wait!" she called out, only for it to be too late. the boy was no longer in her sight. "be safe, mikey." she muttered, before pressing the elevator button.
SOO i'm sorry it took a while, i wanted to it be perfect! hopefully, you guys enjoyed it.
right now mikey's a bit timid and afraid of what's going on around him. jill's a bit awkward around mikey because she doesn't really know what it's like to have a literal child, let alone a teenager in her hands. i think she's doing pretty good right.
do you think about jill is more of a mother or sister figure to mikey?
