Everyone watched her like they were all dying to ask her what happened at the library. Except for Gloria.
"It's been enough time that I think we can assume the other three are not coming today."
Vallen's empty chair frustrated her since she'd been wanting to glance at him dreamily for the next hour or so, but Sebastian's empty seat made her sad. "Conway, he's still worried about being around me?"
"He'll be here when he feels he can be."
"Then let's call the meeting. Ne_."
"What_."
"Costs_."
"We know_"
"How_."
Nevaeha frowned at all of them who'd tried to talk at the same time.
Mr. Churchill band his grovel. "One at a time_."
"What in the hell did you do?" Vallen's bellow shook the entire room and over half of everyone present jumped at the doors, slamming against the walls as he opened them and walked in.
"That's what we all won't to know. Come sit_."
"No. I want to know what in the hell did she do to me?"
Everyone looked at her again.
Wade's office came to mind. The library, but he didn't seem to be talking about either of those things. "You..."
"Don't act innocent with me. I know it was you. That night with Conway's daughter. I thought you were going to kill her, but your cursed me, didn't you?"
"I didn't_." Her eyes narrowed. "Why are you asking me something like that? Did you try to touch someone?"
He pointed his finger at her. "You will reverse it right now. You have no right."
"I have every right. I can't believe you have the gall to come in here and admit to going to someone else after everything_."
"Okay, you two. Our meetings aren't for you two to ironing out your differences. We are here for an important_."
Vallen pointed at him. "Make her fix it. What happened to citizens of the town not being able to curse anyone?"
Nevaeha crossed her arms over her chest. "I didn't curse anyone, and I didn't even put a spell on him. I put a spell on anyone who thinks about touching him. And I'm not reversing it."
Vallen roared.
If she could roar like that, she'd do it too. How dare he go to someone after what they shared.
Mr. Churchill cleared his throat and looked at some of the other members of the council. "I don't think she's broken a town rule. Benjamin, check the handbook while we find out what_."
"What do you mean, she hasn't broken a town rule? That kind of shit must be a town rule."
Conway sighed. "Sit, Vallen. He's looking it up. Is Wade coming?"
"No. He's keeping his eye on our company." He actually sat, but he was still throwing her death looks.
That was okay because she was throwing her own.
She's never been so insulted in her life. So angry in her life. Forget heartbroken, she'd skipped that this time and had gone straight to wanting to skin him. No one else, just him.
"While Benjamin does that, Nevaeha, tell us what happened at the library." Mr. Churchill ordered.
"I saw the damage. It's going to take several hundred to fix. Money the town will have to spend." Mr. Herrmann looked pointedly at her.
"It wasn't my fault."
"Yeah, right."
Her eyes swung back to glare at Vallen. "It wasn't my fault. I had some feelings I wasn't sure about, so I went inside."
"A vision?" Asked Henry.
"No. Just feelings. I went inside and I made the mistake of touching Eveningale. Well, to be honest, it was when I touched her and Cash at the same time."
"You exploded?" Henry asked with a chuckle. "Whatever you did, it was no small_."
"I didn't do it." She growled. "I touched them, then I couldn't stop touching them. You all know how I was at the last meeting? It was like that. I couldn't stop."
"Cash isn't all that strong." Said Julio.
Nevaeha gave an embarrassed look. "No, he isn't. I was draining him pretty quick."
Vallen stood. "And he did that to you?"
"He didn't do anything. Eveningale did it. On accident."
"Nevaeha, Eveningale doesn't have any magic. We all know that."
"We were all wrong, Gloria. She does. It's just hiding for some reason. She has magic, and she's stronger than most in this room. I'd say she's stronger than everyone but Sebastian, me, Conway, Vallen, and maybe Nigel. Maybe. She's differently stronger than the rest."
They all looked shocked.
"How could we not know?" Mr. Churchill looked at Conway. "We should have felt it."
"We should have." Conway looked at her. "Did you weaken her?"
"Not even close, but I will tell you this. I don't think it would have come to the surface if she wouldn't have been worried about Cash's weaken state. Then when I went back to clean up, it was like all that magic was never there. None. I didn't try to touch her again, but still there was nothing there."
Conway nodded. "I'll have to speak to Sebastian about this."
"None of the town rules say anything about Nevaeha keeping her boy in line. Curses are out. Spells that harm. Spells that use sacrifices. Nevaeha, did you use any of those things?"
"No."
"Can anyone be hurt?"
"Nope."
She gave Vallen a smug look.
He growled at her. "If it's not a rule, make it a rule before I have to handle this on my own."
Mr. Churchill cleared his throat. "As Benjamin said, this doesn't seem to be a matter for the council. I suggest the two of you work out your differences among yourselves."
"Boy, you're not the first who's lady did one of those kinds of spells. I heard that Tate's wife did one just the other day when she found out he made a delivery run to the brothel. Heard that whatever she whipped up, he damn sure won't be going back anytime soon. Nevaeha, didn't you have an ancestor used to put a spell on everyone she was ever with so that he could never be with anyone else?"
She left before her tears could make an appearance.
