She wasn't going to fail, but damn if he wasn't making her nervous, staring at her like he was awaiting failure.
"Don't you have something else you could be doing?"
"Of course."
He didn't move from his spot. His hip leaning against her kitchen counter as he stared at her sitting at the kitchen table. "I told you I needed the whole day. Then she'll need to be asleep for me to do it."
"I know. Can you feel her yet?"
"Not really. This feels more like it belongs to Cato. His scent. His feelings." It was hard to feel anything except for Cato's anguish at losing his mate and Vallen's desperate attempt to find her before his father got to her.
"Tell me what you know about her."
"Nothing."
She gave him an irritated look. "You have to know something. Hasn't Cato talked about her over the years?"
"I suppose. She was a pale, little thing. Feeble looking. I wouldn't want her."
"I'm not feeble looking and you don't want me either."
"True. Feel her yet?"
She didn't bother to roll her eyes at him. So, it looked like they were doing this now.
Holding the scarf, she searched her mind for the flashes of visions she'd seen last night when she was with Cato.
Once she had the other girl in her mind, she tried to hold on to it, then she tried to let it pour down over her.
Her sisters picked on her. Said she never smiled. They'd do anything to see her happy, but she can't manage it. They don't know what it's like to lose a mate. None of them even knew what it was like to have a mate.
Ten minutes with him wasn't enough for a lifetime.
Couldn't they see that?
Instantly, Nevaeha was swept away to an unfamiliar room. A bedroom. Soft and feminine.
Hearing a sound, she turned just as three girls came bounding in. They literary oozed life and love. "Athena, you can't hide in your room all day. Mum told us to come cheer you up."
Triplets. The most adorable little girls she'd ever seen. They literally had bouncing blond curls.
Nevaeha came back into her body because Vallen was shaking her roughly and demanding that she return.
"I'm pretty sure I couldn't have been gone that long. What is it?"
He stepped back. "You didn't say anything about going anywhere."
"I wasn't sure I'd be able to pick her up so quickly. I was just shadowing her, and you brought me back before I could see her."
"Oh. Are you safe there, or is it like in your dream world? Is it like dream walking where I managed to... um_."
"Almost mark me? No, it's not like either of those things."
"Can I go with you?"
"No. Even Conway has a hard time doing this." She patted his hand. "Try not to worry. I'm going to stick around her and hope I can figure out where she is. If I don't figure it out, then I'll still have to pull her into my dreamworld tonight. Are you sure you wouldn't rather go home, and I'll call if I find anything out?"
"Hell no. I'm going to be here in case something goes wrong."
"The worst thing that might happen is Silas might try to slap me."
"Can you move to the couch or something? It's kind of weird seeing you empty like that."
"Sure. I'll close my eyes this time, too."
In her room now, she smiled at him. "In cases you try to wake me, and I don't come back easily, just kept in mind that my mind is hundreds of miles away. There's not exactly going to be good service."
"You'll come back when I tell you to. Do you hear me, Nevaeha? Don't make me go ballistic on somebody."
She sighed and laid down with the scarf in her hand. She closed her eyes. "Be a good boy, honey. It's not every day I get to leave Honesty Falls. Even if it's only in mind."
