Chapter 23

Taehyung and Jungkook came back to the campsite when the sky was tainted with orangey hues. The sun was setting but the mirage of infinite clouds still lingered in the sky. It was a beautiful scene that warmed the hearts of its onlookers, making them feel a sense of tranquillity like no other.

But oh so deceiving it was.

"Taehyung!" Jimin exclaims as he runs to his blue-haired friend. The smaller boy beams out a smile upon seeing his best friend.

"Jimin!" He says while tackling the boy into a hug. The pair giggle like scrawny teenage girls talking about their crush.

"I heard you and Jungkook got wood duty because you woke up late," Jimin says while pulling Taehyung to where the people were setting up for the campfire.

Taehyung nods moodily, "I woke up on time but HE did not."

Jimin tilts his head in confusion, "why didn't you just come out then? Then only he would have received the punishment and you could have stayed here doing pushups with me," Jimin says while flicking his imaginary ponytail. Jimin watches as his best friend gets lost in his thoughts and wonders what is going through his mind.

He's yanked back to where he was, face to face with Jungkook. And then, without warning, Jungkook's lips are on his. He kisses him rather gently and Taehyung can't help but feel shy.

"Ahh, Tae? You listening, bro?" Jimin waves his hand in front of his friend's face.

"A-ah yeah, haha, I just- yeah.

Jimin shakes his head, "You weirdo, come on, let's go help put up the fire."

The pair happily stumble along to the big piles of wood where students gather around.

Night falls upon the campsite like a wave from a gentle sea, sweeping over the land with its mighty darkness and lulling the people with its twinkling lights.

The herd of boys all huddle around the orange glow of the fire like a bunch of moths.

"There's not enough seats!" Someone calls out.

The crowd grumble and bark out suggestions.

"Let's make a chair."

"Sacrifice someone into the fire!"

"Someone can sit on someone's lap."

Now the last suggestion catches the attention of most the boys, well, being the most reasonable that it.

The brown-haired boy who had suggested it now beams from the attention and then elaborates his proposal. "The smallest few can just sit on someone's lap," he says with a shrug.

The boys nod in agreement. Taehyung does too but stops when all eyes train onto him.

"What?" The blue-head asks with a frown.

Jimin is next to him and giggles. "Tae, you're literally the lightest person here, it would be best if you sat on someone's lap."

Taehyung's eyes widen as he helplessly stares at his best friend. "N-no, I am not the lightest!" He protests quietly.

Jimin rolls his eyes playfully before pulling the boy up. "I'll sit on Jin while you sit on Namjoon," he announces so the group can hear and then drags the boy towards their friends.

He looks at Namjoon and then at Jimin (who by now is already cuddled up in Jin's lap) and then he hesitantly plops down on the boy's thick thighs. Namjoon wraps his hands around Taehyung's waist in what is supposed to be a friendly manner as he says, "damn, Tae, you're way lighter than I expected, you sure you're eating right?"

Taehyung somewhat flusters at the "intimate" position before nodding his head. "Yeah-um- just kinda have a fast metabolism I guess."

Taehyung doesn't know why but his eyes subconsciously trail over to where Jungkook is sitting to see his reaction. Jungkook seems wildly unbothered by the situation as he continues to chat away with the boy next to him.

Taehyung feels a tinge of disappointment spike his gut but then he brushes it away, shaking his head. What did he except? Jungkook to be jealous over the fact that he was sitting on another guy? For him to actually care about such trivial things like this?

Taehyung feels stupid all of a sudden. Jungkook told him he's not gay, he told him that he's not into things like that. He knew that Jungkook is homophobic.

But here he is, suddenly expecting the homophobic bad boy to fall for him.

Pathetic Taehyung thinks to himself. You're pathetic Taehyung.

He is mistaking Jungkook's friendliness for him having feeling towards him.

But a voice in the back of his mind asks,

What about the kisses?

What about the cuddles?

What about the sex?

Do friends do that?

But then he remembers that bible studies lesson he had a few weeks ago.

"Lust." Ms Song says while clapping her hands together.

"Many mistake this with love but dear god, this is nowhere near love. Lust is a sin." The normally chirpy teacher lowers her voice as she continues.

"To desire something to please your sexual needs. To attach yourself to pleasure that is tainted by the means of greediness. To indulge in frivolous acts of intimacy all for the sake of self-satisfaction. That is lust."

Her soft eyes harden as they stare deeply into the eyes of her students. "And it is the deadliest sin out there but also the easiest to commit. But children, no matter how hard it is, you must never try to encounter it. It will lead to your ruins."

Taehyung frowns, his eyes lost in a daze amongst the hellish glow of the fire.

So it was lust, huh?  Taehyung thinks to himself with a ragged sigh.

~

The youthful melody of boyish laughter echoes around the campsite as the group of boys gossip away to each other. Namjoon's telling the group a horror story and Taehyung's little hands fist together to stop himself from covering his ears.

"And then, BOO!" Namjoon yells, startling the small boy on his lap and causing him to yelp. The group chuckle but not out of malice.

Taehyung ducks his head and laughs softly along with the boys. He wasn't expecting to ever encounter such moments when he entered Hellvile High.

To bond with the people that were born to hate his very being, to laugh with the people that are meant to shun him. For a sinner to connect with the saints.

But right now, smitten by the smell of burnt marshmallows and mellowed by the heat of a roaring fire, he truly feels what he thought he wouldn't. He feels like he belongs.

But deep down, deep within him, he knows that this is temporary.

Because at the end of the day, he is a homosexual. He is the thing that they swear to hate. He to them is a walking disease, carrying around his corruption in the form of the dirtiest sin.

But for just a second, Taehyung dares to believe. Dares to believe he is a normal teenage boy just like everyone else. Dares to believe that he truly does belong.

Because who knows how much longer he can keep believing.

"Kyle your dick is literally 2 inches long, shut the fuck up," a boy shouts from across the circle.

The group spin there heads to catch Kyle's reaction. The blond gasps, his pride severely bruised.

"EXCUSE YOU! I have a monster down here!" Kyle responds as he points to his crotch.

The boy's chuckle at his response.

"Uhh, don't think so. Dude your dick is so small it could literally pass off as a vagina!"

The boy's roar out in laughter, clutching their stomachs as the now embarrassed Kyle curses them down.

Taehyung laughs behind his hands, slowly shaking his head at how stupid the conversation is.

He looks over to his best friend to see that he is literally on the floor, gripping his stomach as tears of joy leak from his squinted eyes. Taehyung's smile broadens at the sight.

The group of boys continue to converse until the weight of the day slowly settles in and tiredness spreads like a disease.

"I'm heading to bed," a tall lanky guy says as he stands up and leaves. And soon, he is followed by the rest of the grade.

~

Taehyung awkwardly walks in front of Jungkook as they head over to their tent. He hasn't spoken a word to the boy since this morning and frankly, he doesn't know what to say.

He's not mad at Jungkook. No, that's not it. The ravenette is not at fault here. But he can't find himself looking at him without having a rush of butterflies which he knows he needs to get rid off.

He crawls into the tent and quickly changes into a pair of sweats and t-shirt and Jungkook crawls in soon after.

Taehyung's faces away so Jungkook can change in peace but he suddenly yelps when a pair of strong arms snake around his waist and pulls him into a chest.

Taehyung stiffens in his hold, eyes widening as he waits for the boy to speak.

"Did you like it?" Jungkook rasps into his neck.

Taehyung gulps at the vibrations around his neck. "U-uh, the bonfire? Y-yeah, I guess."

"No," Jungkook says as he tightens his hold on Taehyung. "Did you enjoy sitting on him? Being so close to him?"

Taehyung's mind can't seem to process the ravenette's words. He slowly turns around so that he is facing the boy and looks up at him with a frown.

Why do you care?

He wants to ask. But something about the boy staring at him so intently stops him from doing so. So instead he shrugs.

Jungkook quirks his eyebrow in question so he elaborates. "Nothing special about it, I guess."

Jungkook hums and then leans down so that his lips are slightly grazing over the other's ear. Taehyung shudders at the feeling.

"Would it have been special if it were me?"

Taehyung stills, shocked by Jungkook's words.

"T-there's nothing special about sitting on someone."

Jungkook shakes his head, his soft locks of hair tickling the side of Taehyung's face. "It's isn't about sitting, Bambi. It's about how you feel being so close to them."

Taehyung shrugs and looks down at his bare toes, avoiding the ravenette's gaze.

"Well, you seemed to enjoy it," Jungkooks says, his tone sounding rather bitter.

Taehyung glances up with furrowed brows, taken aback by the boy's tone. "Enjoy what?" He asks stupidly.

"Being close to him," Jungkook says while looking deeply into Taehyung's eyes. "Did you?"

Taehyung is again taken aback by the glint in the other's eyes.

Was he...jealous?

He doesn't realise but he shakes his head no. Jungkook pauses at this, the glint in his eyes disappearing and replacing itself with another emotion. Relief?

He sighs before digging his head into the crook of the smaller boy's neck. And Taehyung is even more confused when he mumbles a small, "good."

He's confused when the boy lifts his head back up and then gently captures his lips between his.

He's confused when he slides his hands past Taehyung's shirt and then squeezes his waist.

He's confused when Jungkook pulls away from the kiss and looks at him with a soft smile.

He's confused and he can't help but wonder;

Is this what lust feels like?

~
There's a calmness that lingers as they stand there in each other's arms.  Minutes have passed yet neither boy has broken apart from the embrace. They don't know why they are still holding onto each other but they are. Taehyung's lost in thoughts and Jungkook is lost in his but they're together. With each other. And it feels nice to indulge in the heat of another body.

The embrace feels warm and almost unbreakable. Like nothing in the world could pull them apart.

But that's not how the world works.

Because soon there's a frantic voice calling out to them. "B-boy's open up!" And the embrace is broken as the confused pair rush over to zip open the tent.

And when they do, they are met with the face of their commander, looking ever so distraught.

"What's wrong-"

Jungkook can barely finish his sentence before a firm voice interrupts him.

"Jeon Jungkook, please step into the open with your hands above your head."

Now, out of all the things the world could have thrown them, they didn't expect it to be this. Two tall police officers with firm expressions, aiming the sharp tips of their guns at the ravenette.

Both boys stumble out of the tent, Jungkook with his hands above his head and Taehyung with a fearful expression. The smaller boy had no idea what was going on. This has to be some sort of mistake right? Why are there guns pointed at Jungkook's head? And so for reassurance, he looks over at the ravenette, expecting him to have his usually calm, static expression. But that's not the case.

Jungkook looks terrified.

And that's when Taehyung realises that this is no mistake.

"Jeon Jungkook, you are under arrest for..."

The words go unheard to Taehyung's ears as he watches the boy that was kissing him minutes earlier get handcuffed and then pushed into a police car.

And as if on cue, the once calm sky bursts out with raging tears. The once beautiful day becoming ruined by the ugly pelting rain.

And the small boy stands frozen under the misery of the storm as thunder roars out its mocking laughter, telling him in the cruellest ways that yes;

The storm has arrived.

A/N: This chapter was supposed to be bomb but I ended up with writers block and literally had to re-write it like 3 times. I'm sorry that this is rushed and all over the place (and highkey makes no sense).  I'm gonna try really hard to make the next chapter better to make up for this. (Also omg i just realised that I say the chapter is bad like every chapter. And then I say I'll do better. Y'all can go ahead and call be a clown 😂)

But anyway, thank you for reading! I seriously don't deserve you guys. I love you so much.
