Chapter 9
Ash's POV
We're at the park, waiting for Evelyn's half brother to show up. She's sitting three benches away from me just to make sure it doesn't look like we're together. When he finally show's up, I inspect him. He doesn't look anything like his half sister, no deep red hair or pale skin or violet eyes. He's not small and skinny and puny like her either. He's the complete opposite. Tall, tan, well built, brown hair, hazel colored eyes.
They hugged for a second and I could tell from here that it was one of those awkward hugs because they both immediately let go. Then, they started to walk through the park so I followed them. From a safe distance of course. Don't want anyone to know I'm following them. They're still talking and walk across the park, probably catching up with stuff and I'm still here bored as hell. That's when I decide to text her.
Ash: How's it going with you and half boy
I see her getting out her phone and the other looking in awe at it. Come on, reply. She looks at her screen and then puts it back in her pocket. Bitch. I text her again.
Ash: I can see you ignoring me.
Ash: I'm right behind you bitch, answer
Ash: Reply, you spawn of Satan!!!! :(
This time, she doesn't bother checking her phone because she knows it's me. That ungrateful shit doesn't even know I'm trying to keep her from awkwardly talking to her brother. But they're still talking. And she's still ignoring me. Am I that annoying?
Evelyn's POV
'Aren't you gonna get that?' Tyler asked me because he heard the bleep of my phone as well. I shook my head.
'Nah, it's just some random person. It's not important.' I reply then hear yet another bleep. I sigh, taking out my phone again. What does he want? I look at his text and smile at his irritation. I finally decide to reply.
Evelyn: Can you not see I'm busy? Is that bush too dense for you? Can you not see through it?
And immediately another reply.
Weird Dude That Won't Leave My House: So you finally reply
Weird Dude That Won't Leave My House: Bitch
I laugh at the new text. 'What's so funny?' Tyler asks, trying to peak over my shoulder and look at my phone but I manage to hide it and say 'It's nothing.' Then put my phone back in my pocket.
'Are you hungry? You want to go to a restaurant or something?' He asks and I nod 'Alright, how about that cafe in the park?' I nod again and we head there. We sit on one of the tables outside and both order some coffee. 'So how's school?' He questions because we ran out of topics to talk about.
'Um, it's fine. It's alright I guess.' I reply, hoping I get another text from Ash to distract me.
'What about that guy you keep texting?' I jolt my head towards him 'Is he a friend or something?'
'No, Tyler, I told you it's just some random person that keeps texting me.' I break a sweat.
'Yeah, but you keep texting back. It's alright if you tell me, I won't snitch on you. Especially if that's your boyfriend you're texting.' He smiles smugly. I give him a friendly glare.
'Of course its not my boyfriend. I don't have a boyfriend!'
'Alright, alright. I believe you.' He laughs.
I take a look at my watch. Just a few more hours and he goes home. Just a few more hours and I can lock myself back in my room. My arms start to itch again but I don't check them just in case Tyler accidentally sees. But this feeling is driving me insane and I just want to scrape a blade against my arms. My fingers scrunch up my sleeves, balling them up in my hands. 'Are you okay, Evelyn?' Tyler suddenly asks me.
'I'm fine,' I lie 'Let's just go home.' We both get up, pay for the bills and start walking back through the park. Finally, I can go back home and hurt myself so this pain can go away. But then I remember. That promise, that stupid promise I made with Ash.
'Stop for a sec,' Tyler's voice breaks my trail of thought 'I need to do my shoelace.' We stop by a tree and he bends down to tie his laces, really taking his time. Then he gets up and holds my wrist.
'What the heck?' I exclaim and suddenly, he rolls up my sleeve revealing all the red scars on my pale skin. 'Hey!' I snatch my arm back an roll down my sleeve.
'I can't believe you do this, Evelyn!' He shouts 'The first few I thought were just probably some scratch marks but...y-you do these yourself! To yourself!'
'You can't tell anyone!' I exclaim 'Please, Tyler!'
'I have to tell someone. This isn't natural. I'm calling your mother-'
And suddenly I'm begging. I'm crying, begging him not to tell anyone. Its like I'm begging for my life but it's actually the other way around. 'Please, Tyler, Please! Don't tell mom! Please, I'm begging you! Please!' I whimper helplessly.
Ash's POV
They just left the cafe so I thought I should take a stop as well. Also I'm hungry. I order a cup of tea and chocolate muffins and watch them walk away very slowly. Good thing they're slow walkers. I quickly gulp down my tea and gobble up my muffins, pay for the bill and then run out to catch up to them. But ran backwards because I shouldn't be this close.
I see the guy telling her something and then both of them going behind a tree. I can't see either of them so I get closer. I still can't see because the fucking tree is booking my view so I run to see what's going on there. Why do I even care what's going on? I seriously wouldn't have cared if it wasn't for her.
Then I could see glimpse of them and Evelyn is crying and I hear '-please, I'm begging you-' and literally run to them and punch the guy in the face and pin him against a tree 'Listen I don't know who you are or what the fuck you want but if you hurt Evelyn I'll-'
'Let him go, Ash!' She yells at me and immediately let him go. 'He wasn't trying to hurt me,' She wipes her eyes with her sleeve 'I was just trying to reason with him.'
'Who's this?' Her half brother asks, rubbing his neck where I had my hands around it.
'Oh, this is Ash. Ash, Tyler. Tyler, Ash.' She introduces us to each other 'Ash is helping me to stop self harming.'
'That's right,' I add with my arms crossed.
'So please, please don't tell my mom about it. Please?' He looks at her and then rolls his eyes.
'Fine,' he sighs 'Since you're trying to stop, anyway. As long as you promise you won't do it again.'
'I already made a promise with Ash.'
'But promise me that you won't do it.' She rolls her eyes and makes a promise and then they hug again. Tyler looks at me closely, squinting a bit 'Have I seen you somewhere before?' I gulp because he could have seen me in the news when I recently got arrested and the last thing I want is for him to report me.
'Nope!' I quickly say 'Nope! You definitely haven't seen me before! Neither have I! We're complete strangers to each other!!' He raises an eyebrow but then carries on walking with Evelyn and me behind them.
'Oh, and one more thing,' Evelyn remembers 'Don't tell mom about Ash either.'
'Why, you guys going out?' She blushes violently.
'Ew, no! We're not! No! He's just a friend.' She gives a quick glance at me and smiles. 'Just don't tell my mother about him.'
'Okay,' he agrees 'I won't.'
*****
'I'm so glad he's gone!' She sits on her bed and I sit on the other end 'Today was so exhausting!' She lies down flat on her back 'I never want to do anything like that again.'
'I still wanted to kill him, though,' I comment 'Even if he wasn't hurting you,'
'Oh yeah, that reminds me,' she says 'What was that all about, why were you suddenly so overprotective?'
I go red 'N-no reason! I was just looking out for you...' She sits up and starts to fix the locks of deep red hair in front of her eyes 'Hey, why are you doing that?' I move the strands of hair behind her ear. She has these crazy violet eyes. I stare at them until she looks away, cheeks tinted with blush.
'Don't do that! It's creepy!' She complains and gets up from her bed 'I'm gonna go check if mom's here yet.' She leaves the room, slowly closing the door behind her. Why am I here? Living in a girl's bedroom? Has my life really come to this? I should be out causing people pain. Then why am I here, why do I care enough to stop her hurting herself? I shouldn't care if she dies. I don't care if anyone dies.
'Mom's not here,' she comes back into the room holding a plate 'But I got you some microwave pizza. I thought you'd be hungry.' She hands it to me and I gladly take it.
'Thanks.' I take a bite. My phone bleeps on her desk and she gets up to retrieve it, takes a look at the screen and frowns.
'Who's Sharon?' She hands my phone to me.
'Who do you think she is?' I ask and she shrugs her shoulders. 'Well, she's my therapist. Sharon is my therapist.' I unlock my phone and take a look at my screen 'And apparently, I've just missed an appointment.' I look at her relieved state 'Why, were you jealous of her?' I add smugly.
'No, I wasn't,' she quickly replies 'Why would I be jealous of Sharon?!'
'Because I have another female contact besides you. Prepare yourself, because there's more!' I scroll through my contacts and read all the women in it 'There's Darla, my lawyer, Megan, my landlord and wait for it...Jasmine the delivery girl who delivers my takeaway! Are you withering in jealousy?'
'No,' she says calmly.
'You should be, Ash is a playya!'
She rolls her eyes 'Whatever 'player'. Now quickly eat, I have to go to bed. I have school tomorrow.'
'Who cares about school?! You don't even like school. Let's agree never to go to school!!' I yell happily.
'I have to go to school, it's the law.'
'Well my lawyer says otherwise. She says that-'
'I don't care what Darla says!' She interrupts 'Just quickly finish your pizza. Also, don't leave the house before eight. Wait for my mom to leave. You don't want to bump into her.'
'Yeah, fine,' I finish eating the last of the stuffed crust.
(A/N I haven't updated in a long time so sorry about that! Revision for my exams is literally killing me. But here is a chapter that I managed to do.
If you've read Aren't I Normal, my first book, I'm planning on writing a sequel or prequel. I might, or might not. Please comment if you have anything to say!!! Bye!!!!!!!)
