Mom comes home early again so I sit with her downstairs while Ash sits by himself in my room upstairs. I don't know why the hell he's still here or when he's going to leave. For some reason I don't want him to leave that early, not because I like him or anything like that because I barely know the guy but because I enjoy his company. I've always been alone. And I liked being alone but with him, it's like alone isn't an option for me anymore.

'Are you hungry, sweetie?' My mom says 'Cause I think there's some leftover noodles in the fridge...' She gets up and goes to the kitchen and I here her opening the fridge door. She gasps really loud. I get up and run to her and hope Ash didn't store a dead body in there or anything because I told him not to kill anyone.

'Oh my god, Evelyn,' her voice in disbelief 'Did you do the shopping?'

'What?!' I see the fridge is packed with a month's supply of food. One word comes into my mind: Ash. I try to hide my smile as I say 'Yeah, I thought the fridge looked empty so I bought some food for the both of us. I've been saving up and-'

'I can't believe you bought so much food!' She takes a packet of spinach and a box of eclairs at the same time 'And with your own money! Oh honey, you could have just asked me to buy some groceries.' She took out a bottle 'You bought beer as well? But you're only 16-'

'I'm 18, mom,' I remind her.

'Oh yeah, but these don't go in the fridge, dear,' she took the three bottles out and stored them in the cupboard. She takes out some ingredients and tells me 'You want pasta for dinner?'

'Sure,' I say and she turns on the stove.

'Its been a long time since I cooked dinner, isn't it?' She laughs as we sit on the table with two steaming bowls of pasta. I wanted to add well it's been a long time since I've had dinner but I don't. I take little forkfuls at a time and doubt I'll be able to finish it. Not that it's not tasty or anything, its just I don't really eat much. 'By the way,' she suddenly says, her cheerful tone of voice suddenly drops 'You're brother, Tyler, is visiting tomorrow, and I guess he wants to hang out with you-'

'He's not my brother!' I suddenly about at her and I don't usually shout at my mother like this.

'He's your half-brother,' she continues 'And he's just coming for a day. He really wants to see you-'

'Well I don't want to see him!' I blurt out again.

'But he's your father's son,' and she's on the verge of crying.

'He's not your son, mom. That's the problem.'

'It wasn't his fault,'

'I know, but...'

'Just try and get along with him. Please.' She lifts my head so I face her 'For me?'

'Fine,' I sigh, and she gives me a weak smile.

'Thank you, Evelyn. Now about tomorrow, I'm really busy and I won't be able to come home early like today. I'm really sorry.' She stands up to take her empty bowl to the sink, then takes a look at my bowl 'Honey, you barely touched you're food...'

'I'll eat it in my room,' I stand up taking my bowl upstairs with me. When I get to my room, I see Ash playing games on his phone. I hand him the bowl 'Hungry?' And he takes it immediately out of my hands.

'Mm mm,' he mubbles with a mouthful of pasta. He looks at he 'What's up with you? Aren't you happy I bought you a hundred dollars worth of food?' I say nothing 'Come on, it's not very common for me to do nice things for people!'

I finally reply 'No its fine. It's just my older brother,' I correct myself 'I mean half brother is coming tomorrow and...'

'Let me guess, you don't really like him?' He talks with his mouth full.

'It's not that, it's just he's my dads son. But not like son son, I mean I have nothing against him it's just,' I take a deep breath 'Okay, so before I was born, my dad had an affair with this woman-'

'And he's the result. I get it,' Ash interrupts. I nod.

'My mom and I only found out recently and there was the divorce. We don't know who the woman is because she left her son with my dad and ran away.'

He hands me an empty bowl 'So your half-brother is coming tomorrow? Fine, then tell him you'll meet him in the park and I'll come with you.' I open my mouth to say something but he covers it and continues 'Before you say anything, by 'coming with you' I mean 'watch in you both from behind the trees'.' I borrow my brows and he finally let's me go again 'And if he really gets on your nerves then I can just-'

'You can't kill him!' I exclaim and he's pissed off.

'Oh, come on! I haven't killed someone in 72 hours!!'

'And you won't ever again!'

'It's a pain to be stuck with you...' He mutters and lays back on my bed. I place the bowl on my desk.

'You could just leave, you know,' I whisper and he hears me and grins.

'I could. But I don't want to.'

'Why?'

'Because I like you,' he goes red and then adds 'I mean, not in that way, I just find your life interesting. It's like those TV series old ladies with no lives' watch.' And he starts to laugh at his own words.

'Really. Interesting?' And he nods 'Fine then. Get off my bed, I want to sleep.' But he doesn't move. I roll my eyes.

'You sleep on the floor tonight,' he smirks.

'This is my room!!'

He starts to laugh 'I know,'

'You're a sadistic piece of shit, you know that?'

'I know that too.'

I get a pillow and blanket and place it on the floor, and lying down there as well. I tried to sleep but I couldn't so I got up again and went to my bathroom. Naturally, Ash got up and followed me. 'What did I tell you about-'

I cut him off 'I'm not here to cut.' He falls silent, which is a start. I open the cabinet and take out a prescribed bottle which he soon snatches out of my hand. 'They're just sleeping pills!' I yell, trying to snatch them back. He hands it to me slowly.

'Just one, all right?'

'The doctor says it's fine if I take two.'

'Well the doctor ain't here, is he? Just one.'

I twist the cap open, pouring a single pill into my hand. Ash is staring at me as I swallow it with a gulp. 'Good,' he comments as I leave the bathroom and go straight to sleep on my place on the floor.
