Under the Ocean | Human!Mallek x Reader

So, I kind of got inspiration for this while listening the 'Rapture Rise', the Bioshock fansong.

Drip, drip, drip.

You let out a groan as you sit up in the small cot you had decided to sleep in. You unwrap yourself from the patchy blanket you had made from pieces of material you had managed to scrap together. You fold it up and stuff it away into your backpack. With a grunt you reach down to the floor to grab your boots, sliding them on and buckling them up. You get up onto your feet, stretching your aching muscles. Sleeping on such uncomfortable cots really costed you, but it was much better than the disgusting floor.

You fish out a can of spam, opening it and swiftly shovelling it down. It tasted nasty, unfortunately it was one of the only things edible left. The only sounds that rung throughout the complex was the water dripping from a nearby broken pipe and you eating. If you heard anything, you'd be out of there as quickly as possible.

Once you finish eating you chuck the can to the side and then grab your gloves, slipping them on before closing your back and chucking it on. Luckily it wasn't too heavy, so it was easy to carry around.

With one last look around to make sure you hadn't forgotten anything, you head out. As soon as you step out, your boots meet water, which had gathered on the lower ground in front of the home you had hid in. Your boots were water proof, so you were all good.

The neon lights that litter the now abandoned buildings kept everything from drowning in darkness. As you look to your right, you see the deep blue of the ocean just past the glass, threatening you with its ever looming pressure.

You walk through the ankle deep water until the ground slowly rises above the water level and back to dry concrete. You shuffle the bag on your back into a more comfortable position as you continue your trek. You had no idea where you were headed, but you needed more supplies, and you weren't going to find any by just hiding away.

Distant music could be heard from the mall you had raided a few days ago. No one had decided to turn the music off, even though it was closed down due to damage and ransacking.

You cease walking when you hear something. On instinct, you dive into the nearest building, not even looking inside. You just prayed that no one currently resided in there. You curl yourself up into a ball as you listen to the shuffling of feet. By the sounds of their odd stepping, they had a leg injury. You peak around the doorframe to see a person walking by in an almost zombie like manner. You could see a bag on them and by the looks of it, there was a fair bit in there. Now was probably the best chance you'd get all day.

You sit your bag down; looking around to make sure no one sees you. You turn your gloves on, the lights on the backs flickering before lighting up. As quietly and quickly as possible, your make your way towards them. You use a nearby crate to leap off of, which got their attention. They let out a loud groan, their white eyes staring up at you. With a loud yell you slam your fist against their head, the electric shock pieces going off. You land just past it and turn around, watching them writhe and jerk. Once they stop and you think that the electricity is gone, you turn our gloves off. You pull their bag from them and look inside. You grin at the sight of can of Spam and the large knife.

You get back onto your feet and head back to your bag, shoving all of the new items in before discarding the now useless bag. You swing your bag on and decide that you should find somewhere safe to spend the next few days. You clearly had enough food to last, and the less time you spend in the open, the better.

Just as you thought you were safe to go you hear more footsteps. But unlike the steps you were used to, the slow, dragging ones, they were quick. You knew that it wouldn't be one of those creatures, but another person. The last time you had met a person, they tried to kill you, so you weren't that fond of seeing another person.

You slip into a crevice between two buildings, watching for any movement. You gulp when you notice a hooded figure walk down the centre of the street. You notice that he has what looked to be a baseball bat at his side. He was looking around, probably also looking for somewhere to stay. You were lucky not to laugh when he trips of the corpse of the creature you had killed only minutes ago.

He quickly gets to his feet, looking around. You nearly pass out when he looks straight towards you. Your eyes lock with his, and that was all it took for you to go running.

"Hey, wait!"

But that only makes you run faster, nearly tripping over debris or slipping in puddles as you go. You could hear the swift footsteps of your pursuer right on your tail.

You let out a scream when you feel a hand on your shoulder and you're tugged back, almost making you fall backwards.

"Please, just let me go," you sobbed, "I don't have anything you want!"

"Will you be quiet," the stranger grumbles, "you'll alert any nearby creatures of our locations."

And with that they let go of you. You jump away from them so that there was at least a 5 metre gap between you both.

"What do you want?" you speak up, trying to act like you didn't just cry for mercy.

"Well, my group was killed a while back," they explain, "and it's safer in numbers."

"No way," you hiss, "I work alone."

You try to walk away, but the sound of their voice stops you, "please don't leave."

Damn it you were weak. You turn back around to the person. They had now removed their hood, revealing a guy around your age. He looked like he hadn't slept in days.

"Alright," you sigh, "but if you try anything I'll roast you."

You clang your metal gloves together, glaring at him.

"Alright, that's fine by me." You hold his hands up in surrender.

It had been about a few months since you had partnered up with the stranger. You learnt that his name was Mallek. He had been with his friend Diemen had been severely injured during a fight with a pack of creatures and bled out.

For the first month or so you didn't trust him at all, just waiting for him to turn on you. But not once did he do so, always making sure to stay a comfortable distance away. So now you could say that you trusted him enough to let your guard down.

You let out a tired sigh as you turn your gloves off, looking down at the corpses around you. You then look over at Mallek, who had already begun to dig through the bags that had been on the creatures. You bob down and begin to rummage through the nearest bag, which sadly had nothing in it.

Once you finally rummage through all of the bags you sum up all that you had gotten. All up you got 14 cans of Spam and 2 cans of beans.

"Alright, let's get our bags and head off." Mallek says.

You nod and the both of you head off. You let out a yawn, leaning your head against Mallek's shoulders.

"It's okay, we'll find somewhere it sleep soon." Mallek says in a low voice.

"Yeah, I sure hope so."

Just as Mallek had said, you finally find somewhere to sleep. Sadly, it wasn't a home of any sorts so there were no cots or beds. You sit your bag down in the corner, opening it up. You pull out your blanket and lay it on the ground, sitting on it and removing your boots. You then remove your jacket, deciding to use it as a pillow.

As you were doing this, Mallek did the same, lying down beside you on the blanket. You lay down next to him closing your tired eyes.

"You know soon we'll have to move to another dome," you state, "this one is bound to collapse any time soon."

"Yeah, I know." Mallek sighs in response.

Just as you feel yourself getting sleepier, you roll over, pressing against Mallek's side.

"I'm happy that you managed to catch me." You mumble.

"So am I."

Mallek begins to run his hand through your hair. You feel him press a kiss to your forehead.

"Sweet dreams."
